Well I have entered a few of the draws but always been sceptical…having read now the above I will show much support and enter every month.

Yeah don’t go there with the attitude of ‘can’t let him beat me’ as that will be your downfall. Happened to a couple of my mates egging each other on. Just relax nothing technical on the blue runs but they can be a lot longer than you will be used to and as such tiring. Which in my experience is when mistakes are made.

Need to know how heavy it is in current form really. I have over the years spent big making some hefty bikes lighter. But there was always massive compromise. Consequently I constantly broke stuff. Yes they climbed a bit better but actually I think it made the bikes worse going downhill. So it’s always a trade off. I like my bike weight to be sub 30lbs, that has always been the number I have aimed for. But reality it means nothing. My Mojo Hd4 weighs 13.5kg…which tickled my OCD perfectly. Made bigger all difference when it was covered in 5lbs mud at Barry Sidings the other week. I find tyres make the biggest difference to any bike. Not just weight but rolling resistance. As soon as I can refit my rock razor the better😂

Just to point out, the OP has posted out the dealer is a small local independent. Which means whatever the PX is it won’t be going to auction. It’s veey, very rare for small traders to sell stuff through the block nowadays. Main dealer yep, it probably will but used car independent…nah

Well I tried to buy a tyre from them last year, emailed and never had a response. Shame, my mate raves about them and I believe we’re local to me

    Car dealers just don’t care

Sounds to me like it’s the customers whom are just as bad as the dealers and don’t care to be honest.

So, there is plenty of experiences being posted here, however I think it’s worth chipping in with some experience of the other side. So you should be presented with a purchase invoice at point of collection and an order form which you sign. This will stipulate to the ‘best of your knowledge’ that your car has no major mechanical faults, subject to finance, been written off etc. Now you are under similar obligations as the dealer in that if you are aware of the fault your should declare it. That said you could argue you were not aware, but if a management light is on a dashboard it’s hard to argue. Main dealers, by in large will be disposing of your px. If it’s a retailable car they may trade it on. If it’s a vehicle of low value it’s unlikely they will chase you, however if the car is of a greater value then they may put a call in to you. To the point many, many years ago when I worked in dealerships we used to take a holding fee from the customer because they ‘forgot’ my spare key. On the understanding that they would get the money back when they delivered the key…this rarely happened. If it’s a small independent dealer then you may well get a call about faults. The chances are through they will not follow through and there certainly will not be any shitty solicitors letters. Ultimately you gave him the option to view, test drive and make an assumption of the vehicle value based on his assessment. He decided not to. Caveat emptor applies.

I thought TUPE only applied to private sector workers on public sector contracts??

No it doesn’t, we quite often engage TUPE as part of major contractual wins/tenders and that’s in the private sector.

I have just built/bought a new bike? It’s not an ebike and would be class’s as high-end. I won’t be buying an ebike for a long time yet. It’s just not what I want from the hobby.

The 2017 was a bit lighter and slightly different geo if I remember. Just be careful. The 2017 onwards Oranges are having a host of issues with cracking and Orange warranthnisnon the original owners. As such if I was buying used I would binthe older model. The 2015/16 was, in my experience (I owned a 2016 then upgraded to the newer 2017) a much better put together bike. My 2017 came crooked from the factory, seat post not square which was fixed by Orange. I sold it and the rear swing arm cracked at the drop out. Which is really common has happened to my mates bike also and a host of others if you ever catch the posts on the owners Facebook page…before the admin delete them that is.

Santacruz Hightower! I spent a fortune trying to make it work for me, given how good everyone else in the world seemed to rate it. I couldn’t stand that bike. Felt dull to ride, slow, clumsy and heavy. Blew my brains financially on that bike, when I finally said enough was enough. New owner absolutely loves it!

Oh well live and you learn.

Yeah thanks for the lesson in basic supply and demand Phil 😉. My point is that as a visitor to the area, that’s the only thing I’d like to see change. But appreciate that the business has to be sustainable at least for the majority of the year. The idea of a BPw style setup, if that is indeed a consideration (I have not looked for plans) is not particularly a good thing in my book. But that’s me being selfish, BPW really isn’t my thing I just love the hand cut trails up there. The inners uplift stuff is great but give me the golfie everytime

As a visitor to the area (currently planning our next lads trip) i love the vibe off The Tweed valley area, I would hate it to turn into a BPW style thing. We absolutely adored the Golfie trails, in fact could spend weeks riding them. It would be nice to see more investment in the outlying infrastructure (better places to eat, drink and socialise) But I love the charm of the place.

I wouldn’t swap a second hand reverb for a dropper you have owned from new and are happy with. Personally I would arrange with the buyer of your bike a later time once you had swapped all the bits you needed to over. If he is keen to buy your bike then I’m sure he will be willing to flex, I know I would be!

What annoys me most about Facebook sales is the scripted meaaage function. So you get ‘is this still available’ the followed by what’s your ‘Best price’ I usually reply with ‘do you mean the best price for me or for you?’ Some pretty lazy negotiators out there that hit you in the nuts on price. I just ignore, but then I don’t need to sell anything. Just I would like the space, so I’m likely to let something go cheap if I feel the person has made an effort to negotiate. I must say it’s getting more difficult to find somewhere to sell bike stuff nowadays, now here has basically killed itself, Facebook full of morons and eBay scammers. Pinkbike seems to be the only refuge left and that has its challenges.

I can see you can now buy KMC 12 speed chains, which I will be doing along with some uberbike Jockey wheels for my GX mech. When it works it’s great but I find trying to remove all the SRAM elements from MTB SRAM groupset the safest bet. 😂

I get a full print sub every year from my in laws for My birthday, I have enjoyed the mag but rarely do more than graze through it unless I am away from home on a journey and need some time to kill. I always treat my sub as support for the website.

I will not be renewing this year I’m afraid, not in the websites current format and the current classifieds. I would much prefer that the website became pay content only if it was developed accordingly. But appreciate that it’s not STW prerogative and it’s quite clear where their intentions lie. So I make a decision put up or shut up. It’s a shame, from where I’m sat the general aparent degradation of the online element of the site. But there you go!

Nice, we expect a full thread of you stripping it down, servicing, cleaning and upgrading it over the next couple of weeks please. That said I just built my new bike up and didn’t bother posting on here.

    Nice colour by the way

Jeez I’m 5’9 and now ride large frames. Always told by manufacturers I was a medium but after trying sizing up recently it made the world of difference. Simply night and day! So even at my height I would find that medium to small Weeksy, sure you have ridden it for a few years but that doesn’t mean it’s been as good as it could’ve been if it was the correct size for you. Personally I think you should at the least take 1 size up if not 2. Especially if looking at older model years which would’ve run shorter geo anyway. I can honestly say I batted al my friends comments over my bike looking small away as bunkum until I actually made the step!

Surely that’s good news for him? If he is the original owner is it not a warranty job? All things considered with woeful stories of Yeti warranty?

Placebo effect I’m sure, but for me if I bought the alloy (cheaper) frame I would have a constant nagging doubt. Plus the residual values seem better, so arguably the better retention will reap some rewards in the future.

Where else have you listed it for sale. Personally if I even bother to look at the classifieds here I skip through the paid ads now. I don’t think it’s particularly overpriced, in fact if I hadn’t just dropped several grand on a new frame I would’ve been interested.

Which MTB cranks are strongest? What I’m an arm wrestle, for knocking in tent pegs? Or for what type of riding?

As for what I run, Descendant carbons, been dead happy with them too after killing about 5 sets of Sixc’s difficult to look past race face aeffects as well mind. Had a few sets of those and always happy with them.

I had this on my last Orange Five, basically a poor clearingbwide tyre with too narrow a space in the swing arm. Shit design given it was the tyres and wheel sized that came with the bike, on a bike design for ‘British weather’ fixed by fitting a slightly narrower faster clearing tyre. Prior to the bike going back for other shit build issues. Not had it on another brand since really

Have you considered leasing a car? Lots of great deals starting to show up on PCH rather than PCP, it’s becoming ever more popular to have a car payment rather than ownership. You would possibly find the payments not vastly different to that of a loan and would give you the added benefit of new car warranty etc. As for your old car, you should really declare the faults but many don’t when px. Many major dealer groups just dispose through auction now, smaller independents may try retailing again and as such you will be signing to say you are not aware of mechanical faults…which if can be proved you are ours you in a a stickier situation.

My mate has had both mk1. Mk2 and now the stage 4. Had the Stage 4 as his mk2 had multiple cracks, personally wouldn’t buy a mk2 second hand unless the original owner was willing to help with warranty issues. Otherwise apart from the silly shock stroke it was a good bike for U.K. trail bashing.

Makes you wonder how many people at JLR voted for Brexit doesn’t it.

Maybe, but like has been said this is less to do with brexit than many other deeper issues and stemmed long before brexit was even on the table. But never let that get in the way of a brexit moan for sure.

There’s huge global over-capacity in the car market – the western market is only sustained by cheap finance selling PCPs, forcing people to replace every three years is artificially sustaining the used car market. Manufacturers make more money selling finance than selling cars. The whole car ownership model is probably a busted flush, particularly when we consider the increased costs of electric and hybrid when it’s just an expensive depreciating asset. In cities, shared use models where you simply call-up a vehicle when you need it makes far more sense, but the problems is our western economies are built on consumption.

Interesting post this, mainly because it links into my job nicely. Albeit it’s not all correct. First off car manufacturers don’t make more money from finance than they do car sales. The dealers selling them, maybe (for new) but many of the manufacturers outsource their funding to major finance houses/banks. Sure there will be some kind of kick back, but there is plenty of profit in the vehicle transaction way from funding. Different story for a dealer as I say. The change from
Ownership to usership is a big talking point in the industry at the moment. Millenials and younger generations are looking to move away from PcP or consumer finance agreements to PCH where they only have to consider the monthly cost of a car. Think of it as your mobile phone contract. The market wants monthly fixed cost over a term with upgrade at the end. This changes the used vehicle dynamics significantly and I think you will see more secondary and third life leasing develop in coming years. This becomes massively profitable for the leasing companies ans they can really sweat the asset prior to disposal. We are also seeing some marked increases in short term hire arrrangements especially in urban areas such as London. It’s certainly a fascinating time seeing it unravel and develop.

In terms of New car suppliers it’s also important to not forget the pressure they were all put under with the WLTP changes which caused huge supply issues. This would have compounded sales declines further. Used car market as a result has been the most buoyant we have seen in years.

It’s interesting stuff, feel sorry for those that have their jobs at risk I really do.
