I had the same issue with my GX eagle chain. But it had done more miles. Woke me up nicely as I flew forward when it snapped! Fitted a 12speed KMC chain and it’s been good as gold since

Mucoff kindly cleaned my bike at FOD today. Got to say I was impressed. The bike lance with rubber tip was amazing nice pressure. Worked a treat. Given my pressure washer recently packed up I will likely buy one. Foaming lance looks good for cleaning cars too.

If one thing, it’ll make carrying a spare eagle rear mech much, much cheaper!

This, like the idea of having a spare mech for events. Xo1 makes it and expensive option to just sit in a box

Trail forks only works when you have signal and FOD ain’t great for that!!

I can see those Marino frames being in an on one price blow out at some point In the not too distant future.

BTW not saying that would be a bad thing.

Mark, I’m happy to support STW further. But like I said a million times before I would need some commitment to the forum and the website from you guys. I value this website and it’s content but with things like the attitude towards the change in classifieds I’m not sure why I should. I already subscribe after all. But would happily pay a more for a usable website and classifieds back to how it was!

    Anyway back to sick…

Hannah and STW team thanks for the article, you have restored my faith In STW! FWIW I’m glad sick didn’t respond and embrace their right to reply. I think that would’ve ruined the article as it would’ve been soured with lies and bullshit. The PB article proves this.

If I was forced to have 1 bike to do everything it would be a steel 29Ed hardtail. Something slack, but not ridiculous travel, on a budget it would probably be one of the new coming on ones.

That said if I was in such a pickle financially to have to sell my bike. I would be more worried about getting to work and feeding my kids rather than ‘which bike will do it all’

Wow, selling service plans and franchises! Like bicycle timeshare schemes.

The FAQ section of their website is my favourite….first question is….where is my stuff? Ha ha

Also interesting that every T-shirt sold they provide a meal for a kid and plant a tree. Maybe that’s where they have been lately? I mean I see loads of Sick T-shirts. So obviously they got loads of kids to feed and trees to bury! Right?

    you’re confusing the warranty

I’m really not having spent years in the motor trade I’m aware fully. But the point is, that if there is an obvious manufacturing defect, as the second owner the OEM would likely hide behind their T&C’s. My question is around how this would be viewed if challenged? Understanding to some extent you would need to prove the defect and relative small cost of a bike frame vs the likely costs to challenge, time and providing proof via some supposed mechanical/professional assessment

Would be quite interesting to see the outcome of someone actually legally testing a non transferable warranty. I’d say an obvious manufacturing defect was apparent for the second owner. That said, I’m not sure why it’s such an issue. You enjoy some tasty savings on used kit, but there is associated risk with buying used. If you want to warranty then buy new is the ultimate message for me.

Didn’t think you were allowed to do it in a gravel/CX bike?? Could be wrong. It’s fire road heavy and a bit of slog tbh. Well it was last time I did it in the run up to Ard Rock with a big enduro bike and downhill tyres! But quite enjoyable if you are not heading there to ride any kind of trail. Gets very busy on the single track sections. So get to the front for the start. The frustrating thing for me was riding past some fantastic trails.

Just embrace it as a MTB sportive and bring your xc bike and fast rolling tyres

Did you work any of that out or just copy and paste it from here to look scientific?

    where’s the money gone…

Probably on the 10 sets or however many it was of Eewing cranks at a grand a pop. Seem to remember they were bragging about!! Or sets of those ridiculous £100 grips with elastomers in…oh and maybe real diamonds for their stems…

Or maybe just on funky hair die and new tattoo’s.

Joe, why are you trying to get a thread closed down if you have nothing to do with sick bikes? I’m afraid your attitude and previous postings by Sick themselves are somewhat tainting your argument.

Also if you have been trolled previously with vial homophobia, why are you now encouraging this kind of behaviour? It makes no sense?

Its amazing the amount of slack and goodwill these guys have been shown by their paying customers….(using the phrase customer loosely, victims sounds more accurate) I would be fuming right now!

Genuine question, has anyone actually reported Sick to trading standards yet? It’s fairly clear they are either completely inept or on the fiddle. Either way people not getting what they paid for, or a refund is a complete joke and I’m sure there would be significant interest.

I genuinely feel for anyone who has lost out financially, because of the instabang fanfare!

Ibis Mojo Hd4. Best bike I have ever owned! Pedals amazingly, wonderfully compliant rear end. Screw in BB! No need to look anywhere else

I am perplexed by this. First off why anyone would continue reading under the UBYK name, which frankly is worth noting other than established negative reviews and burnt customer base and secondly, why anyone would order from them again, regardless of new ownership. It’s a complete shower! I genuinely hope no one gets seriously burnt this time around

Hardly crap, the new compounds are far superior to the old in my opinion. Whilst I found trailstar seemed to last longer in terms of looks they often lost their edge, so whilst looking good were often past their best. The more I reflect on the life of my current Mary, the more I’m impressed with it. It can be retire now for winter back tyre duties.

To be fair I think I summarised and countered my own points earlier in this thread. I think getting 8 months out of my Orange Mary is pretty good. They certainly don’t look to last as long as the old trailstar. But then it’s a much better tyre in the new compounds. I am likely to give the 2.6 a go having heard good things. I’m really liking the new Dampf as a rear tyre! Much better than the old version

Hard to tell how many ads have been placed each day since the listing date from the front link to the ad has been removed. Need to click into the ads now. I have tried multiple times to sell stuff on there given I had been so critical of it I thought I would give it a fair chance. But had little success.

To be honest I think 8 months out of mine is pretty good. The central
Knobs are basically like new. Still square edged. Just the side knobs are disintegrating. I am tempted by the 2.6. My mate runs one and raves about it, it certainly looks substantial.

I’m running an Addix soft (Orange) Mary and it’s now been on the hike for 8 months (front) I noticed the other day my side knobs are ripping off. Ala Schwalbe of old. Still the best front tyre in my opinion, just have to budget replacing it every 6 months or so now. DHF, for me is nothing like as good a front tyre. I like the looks of the new Assegai and some of the Michelin Enduro tyres. But simply can’t fault the MM other than longevity

It completely depends where you want to ride! It’s a bloody big area with riding just about everywhere you look! I seem to get in trouble for sharing off piste stuff, so I won’t…publicly (happy for some tips if you drop me a PM)

X2 is a great shock, but I would be wary (depending on bike) if you are particularly heavy. I’m 86kg and ride a Mojo HD4 with an X2, it’s fantastic, but I’m right at the limit of the pressure chart to get 25% sag. I think the newer models allow more air pressure. But my shock is limited to 250psi

Maybe try and find someone on the net who had fitted an X2 first to see how they find it

The GFV is set by the finance company, it’s based on projected wholesale costs at the end of the agreement. Given the volatility of the used car market it’s impossible to predict the price accurately. But then the benefit of the PCP is the ability to walk away. If the car is worth more than the balloon, then the balance is rolled I tot he deposit on your new car. Remember you only hear people’s negative experiences. The model works quite well for a significant number of the public.

    russyh

That’s right they don’t have a guaranteed future value, but the balloon is called rather confusingly by the industry as a guaranteed future value or GFV for short.

Of course you can VT the vehicle as part of your consumer right and it will not have adverse effects in your credit rating. Albeit the balloon can skew when you reach the 50% point.

    russyh

The balloon payment in a PCP is not the trade in price. It’s the final payment needed to take ownership of the car. It’s called a Guaranteed future value (GFV) basically what that means is, when you come to PX for your new car, if the value is less than the final balloon the car will be taken back by the finance company. If the car is worth more then the balloon is settled as a normal HP settlement would be, any equity is rolled in the deposit on your new car and the dealer keeps the car for stock. I really would not recommend people to put in large deposits into PCP deals as all that does is lower the monthly payment, it does not alter the GFV

PCH is probably the fastest growing financing method. It stands for Personal contract hire, so like a standard company car lease would be paid for privately. Rentals will vary dramatically depend on the mileage (please don’t underestimate your mileage as going over will likely involve big penalties) deposits (again only put in what you plan to lose) and if you are funding a service package. There is a big swing in changing from car ownership to usership, as car owners nowadays want new cars, with a consistent monthly fee. Basically as the demographic of car owners is changing. Younger buyers are more evolved into spending on a car like they pay for their mobile phones. It creates some interesting dynamics in the used car market. So expect more used car PCH packages to evolve over the coming years. Basically the margin on selling a new car will be spread across the vehicle life cycle. I have been working on some interesting stuff in recent years and it will be more interesting seeing how the market develops.

Kind of semantics really, it’s £10 park and ride is how I see it, but if you have a car load then yeah it’s more money. I guess you could park free and sit in the cafe all day! I don’t think the £10 is particularly unreasonable given the number of trails and how relatively easy the pedal up is. Just the whole pricing change just happened to coincide with my group reducing how often we rode there. I think it was more a case of…BPW? Meh, they put prices up as well…did it lets ride somewhere else. No doubt we will start hitting the place hard again once the weather turns crappy again.

Is there any massive stuff at BPW

Not really the place to go if your looking for free ride or big features no.

    russyh

They raised the price to pay and ride to £10 for the day. Plus some other messing about with pricing, uplifts food etc… Which actually doesn’t stop me from riding. Just coincided with a reduction in the amount I rode there. I can see the attraction to people further a field paying for a full day uplift a couple of times a year, just think I rode there too often and got bored with it. Nowadays prefer going somewhere like Barry Sidings. Much more natural, quieter and a better cafe 😉

Good article, something often overlooked. I struggled like hell to find a dropper that worked on my old 29er Genesis! Loved that bike but ultimately the main reason I got rid. Glad there are better options out there now
