I picked up a pair of Fjallraven Keb trousers from the Ambleside outlet shop back in the torrential Feb rain. They are ace. Scandi quality, warm, breathable, stretchy, quiet, water resistant without wax, but waxable for more wind/water resistance.

Thanks both. I have the crank. The bike has a 73mm BB shell and was previously GXP. LBS told me that the old tube would fit, which I very much doubted, but they insisted.

The tube is just there to keep crap away from the axle/bearings right? It has no rotational or structural role does it?

So most people on here think we are in this situation because of a few people bending the rules and not because the government clearly gave a green light to the South East and London to go out to eat/shop/play/go in each other’s house etc etc after the November lockdown? They were all abiding by the rules. Whole load of good that did. I bet a few of the cleaner than clean lot followed those rules, “and still got Covid”.

Peanut butter smothered over chocolate caught me the one that ate through our dishwasher outlet and the one that ate a whole freezer in the cellar. The actual freezer. Not the contents of the freezer.

How very terrible for you. Your poor children. I assume you and they will be able to go next year and that they’ll have lots of lovely presents and food this year to make up for it.

Have a think about what other people are having to go through with very little light at the end of the tunnel, never mind 8 weeks of skiing next year.

I’d say you are much part of the problem.

Crap denim is very very environmentally unfriendly so buy well buy once…

Black Horse Lane NW3 or Hiut Work@/HAck@ would fit the bill fit wise.

Get a grip , typical stw response. That will be gone in no time at all even if left untouched.

Having helped on the dig team last year I was amazed by just how much had to be cleared after just one year of being left. Couple of years more and everything apart from the big features would be pretty much gone. Clearing next year will be a good deal of work.

I was thinking about this after reading a tweet from Sleaford Mods along the lines of being sat behind a bloke a plane back from Benidorm who had been on a works weekend, working class, from North etc. going on about how Corbyn is shite, Come On Boris, Come On Boris. Warehouse workers voting for monsters. Why?

I think it comes down to selfishness, xenophobia and racism. Not overtly, but in that the alternative would help those people; the refugees, the homeless, the unfortunate, those that need free school meals etc etc. Why should I vote for someone that is going to help others even if they’re not going to help me, why should “my” money go to European people or overseas aid that kind of thing. Not that the right will help the working class, but they sure as shit won’t help the brown, the feckless and the foreign.

According to the Highways Agency excellent website, where you have to download an Excel file to view closures, it is closed, but only from 2100-0600.

It’s an Excel 95 file though, so quite possibly full details are missing.

I had something similar a few years back that lasted for a few years. Initially started off as mouth not feeling ‘right’, sore throat, heart burn, stomach issues etc. My diet was pretty poor, didn’t really exercise and drank too much. Went on for ages, began to scare me and as a consequence I think I drank more to forget about it. It was always there, especially throat/oesophagus.

Eventually went for a camera up the nose thing. Came back as inflamed stomach valve we was allowing acid reflux – advised no booze for month, cut down, eat better etc. Did the month off, cut down, no difference.

After a couple of years of it still happening and worrying it was something horrible I had a go using Headspace, within two weeks it was gone, I carried on the meditation a bit longer then stopped. The throat stuff came back. Did Headspace again and it went away.

I’ve carried on meditating off and on and paid attention to my breathing and everything has been kept at bay. Diet and drinking haven’t been brilliant, but still no issues.

In hindsight I put it down to stress, and particularly unacknowledged stress as I didn’t feel especially stressed/under pressure at the time but looking back I was in charge of some big stuff at work, home life was relentless, money was like water, zero time to myself etc – I reckon I just thought everything was normal and everyone else felt the same, so sub-consciously hid it all. It seemed to feed on itself somehow.

Anyway, all fine now, it comes back from time to time when I am really stressed but I know more or less how to deal with it.

Sorry for the ramble – maybe it’ll help. Maybe not.

Why do I keep getting colds a flu throughout my lfe then?

Isn’t that because the four common Coronaviruses that cause colds have not been vaccinated against? They are in circulation all the time and the average adult can expect to catch each one of these about 5 times in their lifetime, maybe more, each time the body is able to deal with it better and better, hence them not being too much of a worry. That’s why you keep getting colds, but each distinct one gets better to deal with until perhaps you get older and your immune system starts to fail.

The thing about new Coronaviruses is that they hammer people, especially those with weakened immune systems due to other health issues or age. When you get it again, you body deals with it better.

No point getting shouty with anyone, unless of course you are in a position of ultimate knowledge and no one is listening. Armchair virologists, as I am, can only surmise.

@theotherjonv – that’s a well written piece. But, in my opinion, there’s a key part missing; I think we are all clear on what will happen if climate change continues unchecked – we will all die, all of us. What is less clear is what will happen if the current pandemic continues unchecked, yes, the data is clear, the maths is fairly clear – but what would the outcome be? Will we all die? Will some of us die? What?

Correlation between Climate Change deniers and Coronavirus ponderers is bollocks. IMO.

In true STW tradition I shall wholeheartedly ignore the brief and suggest something that is no longer available.

How about a single skin full leather boot – Lundhags do a few that are amazing. – Lundhags Shell Boots

I have a pair of Haglofs Barken from a few years back. I absolutely love them; high, well made, adaptable to conditions through use of layering, waterproof if cared for properly, light, look good. You can’t get them anymore though.

estimate of only 10 in 100000 being infected

What I said was, even if the estimate of 10000 being infected is a factor of 10 out, i.e. there are 100000 infected then there would be a 0.001% chance that your colleague came into contact with one of that 100000 people.

Just amazing they have over 10k cases now in UK in what seems to be a little over a week. Watched Boris say that “you will lose loved ones” which is pretty brave to say on national tv! that “you will lose loved ones” which is pretty brave to say on national tv!

The ten thousand cases is an estimate, not tested cases, based on people having had it, or contracted without reporting etc.

Also Boris didn’t say that, what he said was “many more families are going to lose loved ones before their time”. So, not massively different to what you’ve quoted but significantly different enough to be read/interpreted differently.

And regarding your colleague, yep, he’s been in the UK for 5 weeks and you’re due to work with him. There are almost 70 million people living here. Even if the estimate of cases is a factor of 10 out and there are 100000 people infected, the chances of him having contracted it through contact with one of these people is 0.1%. So one in one thousand.

<blockquoteTo help prevent it spreading. I thought that had been very clear even amongst the media hype.

Yes, but to what end. So that everyone doesn’t die. That’s what I get from the media.

While I think it’s all quite scary I do think there’s a degree of panic being propogated by the media and with ‘news’ being everywhere now that escalates.

I’ve not seen any real explanation around WHY people should self isolate – which leads a lot of people to believe that people will be left to die in their houses, rather than actually the fact that they actually isolating themselves to contain spread. And the containment of spread being about keeping strain off emergency services, normal life, economy etc. What is trying to be prevented, I think, is half or more of the workforce being off work, rather than half or more of the workforce dying.

There’s probably way more people got it. I’ve got a headache and feel a bit sinusy, bit of a cough etc. Generally under the weather? Cold? Covid19?

I tested the e300de estate for my company car. It was awesome and only £40 a month more than a Passat estate. Would have got it had it not been for the massive battery/motor taking a load of boot space and that most of the time it would never have been plugged. Got the Passat. Regret it.

Just started up commuting two or three times a week from Wharfedale into Leeds by bike straight down Otley Road. Not had any close passes yet. Worst bit is the bus lanes in Headingley and traffic pulling into/out of side roads through a line a stationary traffic. Try to make myself as big and visible as possible. Trying to work out whether the Meanwood Valley Trail would be a viable alternative on a cross bike.

Spent a long time researching boots a couple of seasons ago. It was between Lundhags Forest and Haglofs Barken. Ended up with the Haglofs as I could try them on and they were cheaper. Have to say they are awesome, heat formed insole too so super comfortable.
