Weight on the bikes isn’t an issue on some of the bikes they are inserting weights into the seat tube just above the BB to make sure the bike gets to the minimum weight.

Thread it all thru properly, small cog rear and small ring front, chain should just (by mm) be not catching on the jockey wheel on the rear mech.

I use Bytemark, a bit geeky for some, but at least I have full control over the operating system including console access for when I muck up and as such the php mysql versions etc.. UK based but so far all of my questions have been answered through the support forums and Wiki.

Would like to know more myself, with the 120 rockers the RP23 is great but it’s a bit overwhelmed with the 150 rockers so I guess it needs a different tune or a different shock. My 5Spot (RIP) was brilliant with its Romic so I guess I’ve been spoiled.

Penmachno and the Marin, Penmachno is a Marmite kind of trail some hate it others myself included think it’s one of the best man made trails there is. The Marin is old school as far as manmade goes but the last three sections are still brilliant.

But as you are on the Lleyn, then Coed y Brenin would be a good way to spend a day, or go down to Nant yr Arian for a day.

Pick up a multi spanner pretty cheap, as a kid you used them for all bicycle repairs

Agree with TJ spanner is prob the cheapest, however a quick Google has thrown up these as an example

Worth a try by going into an LBS that’s been open for a long time, it’s amazing some of the classics gathering dust on a shelf in them.

It’s OK if you are a local there is a lot worse than the Cussy, but I guess it is a bit of a shock to the system for out of towners. Then again you are in N.E Wales so you know how bad it can get in some of the villages.

Been a home worker for 10 years now, VPN client on laptop so I can access all the file shares, all of the corporate apps and the usual email etc. What makes a great difference is having an IM client that will do voice, video and desktop sharing along with a voice over IP client thats setup with a normal phone number and can be setup with call routing rules to follow me about. IPass so I can access wi-fi hotspots when I’m out and about along with a 3G card if all of that fails. Then if I have not got my laptop handy there is web access to Outlook and the Blackberry.

Agree with the comments about it getting lonely sometimes and you have to set yourself some rules for example start and finish times otherwise the day just gets longer and longer. But the flexibility it gives and being removed completely from the usual office carp is well worth it, when you do go into the office it is for a specific reason and you can plan a very productive day.

Oh and the fact that it is a decent pay boost not having a commute every day.

Other big advantage is being able to get mid-week rides in at lunchtimes so you get some daylight mid-winter riding.

Don’t stick them in front of the TV watching the family guy, no matter how much they love it, they will pick up words that will get you in trouble. But at least now I’m right at the bottom of the emergency babysitter list.

@mrmo so you didn’t treat her to the delights of the Clwyd then?

I have vague recollections of downing plenty of Moonraker in Clavertons and loosing a big part of that night :-)

    The infamous Crossmax death howl

It’s wear in the white nylon bushing in the freehub, you’ll be able to tell as the cassette will wobble from side to side. Thing is if you just replace the freehub or the bushing (someone sells them on eBay) then it’ll soon be back as the rubber seal underneath it needs replacing at the same time, as if you re-use the old one it’ll let the dirt/grit in pretty quickly.

Had two IS200’s both were the manual version think the the gearbox is one of the really good points to it, seem to remember that the Auto version was only a 4 Speed so I’d hazard a guess that it’s a bit more thirsty. Lexus owners club forum is the place to go, here’s a link to their IS200 buyers guide.

Pete, just looked 19mm internal 25mm external on the CX bike.

I’m also using some Mavic A719’s on XT hubs on the Roadrat and they are pretty solid too again they are a 19mm internal width rim.

I just use some cheap wide rims, I accept that they are going to get hammered but with the wider rim a 35c tyre is more stable and the rim doesn’t act like a cookie cutter every time I hit a bump.

Stronglight do chainring bolts in packs of five, either in double or single versions. Walked into my LBS last week and they had em hanging on the display racks and strangely enough I used em to build up a single SLX chainset.
