    Bounty rim strips and valves are the best tubeless system about by a long way, makes sealing very easy.

    They trashed the rims ploughing through rock gardens and drops into river/stream crossings so big tyres or a little more finesse will have them running fine for a long time

    They had the original 26″ mtb wheels weighing 1520g

    As stated before the most part of the wheels are good, the hubs are easy to strip and clean and they run well.

    Nothing wrong with being childish, I’m envious of my daughter as she looks like she is always having fun and kids are generally always smiling and laughing, unlike a lot of adults which on the most part seem to take themselves way to seriously and don’t smile much or laugh a lot…

    Strange, I just unboxed a new set and that’s one hell of an odourless variety.

    I’ve seen you write this before – what do you base your opinion on…?

    Never owned them myself but have 2 friends which have. Both had the rims fold in on the same trails in numerous places running pressures identical to mine. Rims were replaced and same thing kept happening they now run Flow rims with no issues. I did ding my rims on same trails but only with a very small fold, their rims just seemed to cave in and give up. 1 of their rims got a puncture hole in the side as well which I have never seen. The rest of the wheels are good and they are light.

    Also glad I made an impression and I’m on your mind teasel! :roll:

    I managed to get a little more of the bead to seat by sticking the tyre in the tumble dryer and heating it up, problem is it cooled a little to much by the time I had put fairy liquid on it and mounted it. I will heat it up more on the next attempt and hope I don’t ruin the tyre.

    Cheers all. Not so fancy if I can’t get tyre beads to seat! Their the cheapish chinese carbon rims so still not fancy if I do get them to seat properly.

    Will give the standing on it approach a go tomorrow, sounds like it works the same way as the expensive park tool will.

    Yep, tried that. Doing my nut in but I won’t give in. Its just a foot long section which has fallen into the centre channel and won’t pop out to seat the bead, pita :evil:

    Yes I have them on the rim but can’t get the bead to seat properly, so the tyre is wonky.

    I’ve got one of them. It does the trick, but it’s not too kind to the anodised finish on black rims. I normally just go for blasting it up to 120psi, that works most times.

    The new rims are carbon so don’t fancy going to 120psi!! 8O

    Do you think they will help seat the bead?

    The Quantocks is the perfect mtb playground with wonderful and sublime varied descents every where. The climbs are a good challenge to, especially as you always know that just over the top is one of those great descents :D

    Don’t bother with smith’s, your first thoughts are correct as its just not worth it. The river is on the right of you on the way down Weacombe and is a 10-15ft vertical drop in places 8O

    The drop off of Hill fort is a blast as you go to full speed in seconds and its pure rock garden with absolutely no control over the outcome, you are just along for the ride. Always makes me smile and laugh at the insane-ness of it.

    I’ll send out the wildlife to begin walking a new trail in.

    Which could work well in keeping the trail above the other fallen trees.. But it’ll need to happen naturally.

    To be fair, nature has done an excellent job all over the Quantocks, so as long as they get a wriggle on I’m sure the end result will be good. Its just a matter of time and my legs still being able to turn the pedals in years to come when they finally finish it!

    Good to hear your doing well Sharki.

    The tree is of a very substantial size and just before 1 of the last little dives into the gully. It was raised slightly due to its branches if I remember correctly and would be more of a climb over than a nice jump if you were to build it up on the facing edge. Its a real shame as when we came across it I thought that no rangers or anyone else will ever be able to remove it so will for ever stop the sublime flow of this descent albeit towards the very end.

    I have only managed to get down to the Tocks twice this year due to family and setting up my own driving school. I was starting to fall out of love with biking as had no time to get to any decent riding, un-till I last visited the Tocks a few weeks ago. Then the love soon came flooding back :D

    Hi Sharki, how’s it going? You answered my call last time I came across a fallen tree, which was at the bottom of the twisty section of the dead women’s ditch descent which was much appreciated. The fallen tree at the bottom end of Bin combe is much bigger and I wondered if you had a bigger saw and a lot of time on your hands??! :wink:

    Bin combe (five lords) I love the top section of somerton but Bin combe is just oh so sweet, a little rooty then a sweet launch of the road into the off camber left hander, after you stay left and your rewarded with the most sweetest ribbon of singletrack and that magical gradient where you just continually gain speed as it dips in and out of a gully and around the trees. Not many people seem to ride it so normally a little debris or leaf cover. Last rode it 4 weeks ago and unfortunately there’s a big tree which has fallen across the trail towards the end, but still worth riding down. To get out go under a large tree trunk and after its left up through the trees and holly bushes. I could spend the day just riding this 1 descent

    Buy the proper tool from BETD online, will cost about £18 which is better than forking out for a new shock lower when you cut into it

    Make your own. Thread on mtbr been going for a few years now. Results out perform anything else on the market. They started it due to stans drying out and not sealing larger holes. I think the thread heading is ‘best home brew sealant’. There are 2 mixtures 1 is on first page other is on the last page I believe, its about 95 pages long! But an interesting read.

    Nope, their great and will out last your tread. Have several on my tyres which have been in place for ages. Sealent will booger up on it inside your tyre over time. I think this kit is the nuts for price and simplicity as its a simple trail side fix, easier than putting in a tube.

    Good choice on the DD from troutie. I got a similar light from goldigger on mtbr and the light output and spread is insane. You will be flying downhill as quick as you do in day light and will out shine your mates no worries

    Different torque ratings to free up bolts. Just use the 222 on everything as requires 5 nm to free up bolts and your only using it to stop bolts vibrating loose, anything else is over kill.

    American classic rims are made of cheese. You can get a pair of 30mm wide carbon rims weighing 370g from light-bicycles.com (china) for £220 delivered. Good rims which have been tested by folk on mtbr all this year. Read the threads on mtbr, either ‘cheap Chinese carbon rims’ or ’26inch Chinese carbon all mountain rim’ in the wheels and tyres section on mtbr forum.

    I would echo what retro said in his last post. Well worth it, the one’s from UK or Europe are rubbish. Factor in that you will not need to replace these and the cost starts to equal out a little. I was having to replace bushings ever 4 months and the friction was a joke especially when I was spending serious money on kashima coatings etc to get plush suspension. It’s a no brainer when looking for best performance imo.

    Treckster is spouting about something he has no idea about (usual STW post) . As retro stated the enduro ones are fab, really sealed well and super smooth and last like that for ages and ages. They are sold by real world cycles in the usa, expensive with import duties but worth it imo. If you go to mtbr forum there’s a long thread about them and hundreds of peoples experience’s, Chris who designed and sells them from real world cycles is always answering questions on the thread and the customer service is like Hope’s.

    Go onto the mtbr forum, look in the shocks and suspension section and you will find the ‘Enduro shock eye needle bearing kit’ thread, or just stick that info into Google. Also Chris will tell you if its worth your while putting them on your bike depending on the rotation each end recieve’s as quite often he will recommend just 1 end or even none!

    It’s a good read so enjoy.

    Arch rims are very tough imo, flows are tougher and will give a better tyre profile.

    The bloke is pretty amazing. Don’t forget he beat cancer when it was almost a given he was a dead man walking, he also finished 2nd in the tour just 2 years ago

    How does plastidip work?

    Once you have wrapped or heat shrinked the battery after soldering the leads, you then either dip or spray on the plasti-dip, which is a liquid plastic/rubber, once dry it gives it a completely waterproof outer layer. I use it on all my battery packs.

    It probably is just a cell. Make your own but buy a better battery like a Panasonic 18650 as your £4 cell will be really poor and won’t last very long. Get some plasti-dip spray to properly weatherproof it once taped up.

    Fantastic frame, also great warranty service as just got a new rear triangle because it cracked round the bolts at top of seat stays after a year. Only true weakness is the bearings as managed to seize all of them in 8-10 months so now apply boat grease over them. I now want the turquoise frame…
