Good choice, you won’t regret it, I didn’t. All I need now is some way to convince Highbike to give me commission! :-)

Reverb post seems more reliable now its been around for a year, had no issues with mine and its fairly simple to service yourself with all the videos on youtube. I’m sure as previously stated by Munqe-chick that the warranty should be covered in the uk if purchasing in the EU.

If your looking at spending £190 on a droppy seatpost I got the rockshox reverb post for £195 delivered from Hibike in Germany, delivered in 4 days and has a sweet hydrolic bar mounted controller, also comes with bleed kit and hose clips etc.

I just use X2 front and back, so what you propose sounds spot on, can’t go wrong with Hope and a good move getting away from Shimano.

I think the MMX is for XX brakes only, but don’t quote me on that. I just got the normal mount version. Apparently the MMX extra bit can be left in box and just mount as usual if it dose not fit. I got my post from HIBIKE in Germany, £196 delivered, only took 4 days to arrive, they have all types in stock. I couldn’t choose which side it mounted but wasn’t fussed, it came as a right hand mount.

Say NO to shimano! its like its the only make about. Go with the Hope’s, their british the tech lever is fantastic. Get the M4 for the power and the servicing of Hope’s is so easy.

55Nm is the equivalent of stepping on the allen key! Just do it up as tight as possible. I have a Norbar, very good torque wrench and English to.

I believe the outer will but the inner would have had to come off a X-type for it to be compatible, if it came off a isis or square taper then no. Middleburn do a 4 ARM spider duo now, making it stiffer and cheaper to buy the rings.

Hope all the way, either stainless or ceramic. British is best. I am proud to say I don’t have any shimano stuff on my bike.

Come on, some have you should be more specific than half a country! Try a local area or set of hills, nice to see no trail centres have been mentioned.

My original claim was only my opinion and if i had a choice of only being able to ride in 1 place till the end of my riding life, the Quantocks would be it, where’s yours Partyboy?

I use Conti Rubber Queens. A lot of the combes are named on a OS map.

    http://www.sharemyroutes.com/routes/United-Kingdom/Holford-Somerset-England/Quantock-Hills-MTB/elevationOSmap.aspx

This map is ok to look at as can zoom in as well giving the combes names which may not be on the original OS map. My favourite descent is the Stert/somerton and Bin combe (five lords). I don’t live local to the Quantocks unfortunately other wise would gladly come out. Probably their on the weekend or the following one.

I agree that those descents are not the most technical, but their are some naturally technical descents on the Quantocks, also depends on a persons level of riding, mine is the level of ” I’m happy to still be on the bike at the bottom” !!

Don’t listen to anyone who says anything bad about the Quantocks, The riding is the best in the UK imo. Their are steep, rocky, rooty and twisty or flat out natural descents all over the Quantock hills. You will not be disappointed, and worth while riding dosen’t have to be man made. Look for Stert combe, Frog combe (both descents) Bicknoller, Weacombe, The chimney and other downhills/single track around their, also the man made stuff is good over at Triscombe stone, also Five lords on the map is a good one, concrete block and I enjoyed the descent off of fort hill. You need Sharki to show you around if he was going to be in the area, he may pick up on this thread at some point. Enjoy.

I reckon you would never notice any difference in stiffness unless it was made of cheese! at the price its well worth it imo unless you want to be bang on trend, but then you would need a push fit bottom bracket to be on trend, and they are rubbish and a pain to service yourself. At that price just keep replacing the bottom brackets then in the future stick it on the partners bike! Or get a SKF bottom bracket which will last.

Stick with 9 speed, either 2×9 or 3×9. Will be around for a very long time yet and 10 speed ain’t all that, just usual hand me down from road bikes on stuff we don’t really require on a mtb like press fit BB and direct mount front mechs.

I agree with globalti, just ride the wheel till the bearing stops turning. Do you think you will notice a slight notchy feeling when riding on rough ground?!

Cheers Stu, how much did it cost you in the end to get it fromGD, did you get stung on the import tax?

Hi Sharki, Yes just managed to get back before I fell asleep at the wheel! Many thanks for the journey round the Quantocks and hope you have a good party this weekend. If you ever need a meal, or a bed when in my area give me a call.

M770 is newer, I believe the BCD is the same. So main difference will be the price, if its the middle chain ring you require the M770 is steel mounted on carbon so is still lite but will last longer. If in doubt google either M760 or M770 chainset and match the photo to your cranks.

Have no photo’s but its got 140mm Talas, fizik seatpost, Brooks swift ti saddle, Roval traverse wheels, bolt through on both ends, Thomson stem, Easton carbon bars and Middleburn Duo cranks. Also nice and fat Conti X-King 2.4 tyres. Will try and sort photo some time, a little bit muddy at mo as was trying to keep up with Sharki around the Quantocks yesterday!

I got 2 friends who have these wheels and run normal conti rubber queens and a set of panaracers tubeless with the tape and sealent, they seal no problems just use c02 cartridge to get it seated first time!

I run 140mm Talas on my Yeti and it ploughs through everything no problems. Feels like you’ve just insulted my mum!
