Conditions on the Quantocks today where as Sharki said, very good, much better than about 4-5 weeks ago and maybe the best they have been for most of the year.

Buy some wider 26″ Carbon rims from light-bicycles in china. Wide as Flows and over a 100g lighter.

Read several threads on them on mtbr:

Hope V2 or the new V4’s. Oodles of control and power, really easy to strip and service and all the spare parts you may need with great back up from the British manufacturers.

I found that switching to 2×10 with a 11-36 cassette gave me nearly the same spread of gears with less over lap o the gear inches, so more gears in practice. Also the difference between each gear is less of a jump so making the transition easier, which I found to be more beneficial when climbing. You can go onto Sheldon browns web site and use the gear inches calculator to find out any differences and overlaps. There are quite a few over laps when running a 9 speed system.

Montane Photon is very breathable, uses the pertex shield and is very thin and very waterproof.

BOS Vip’r could be a choice worthy a look at. No real world experience of this shock yet (waiting on delivery for mine) but all the reports on it are very good. They are custom tuned for the bike and your weight/type of riding.

Plasti dip on mine, works a treat, use some sugru where the lead exits the pack otherwise the flexing of the lead will split the coating.

    I really don’t need these.

errm, how good are the Deville 140’s?

Apparently the best forks you can buy at the moment.

£609 for the taper steerer 140mm Deville non TRC instead of £850, £309 for the Vipr shock instead of £479. They have the Idyll forks at £1000 instead of £1500. £669 for the 160mm version of the Deville

Beaten to it and with the full page spread, not a clue how you did that.

Free flow bikes do 0% and free next day delivery, they give great advice and stock excellent products. 1st rate in my book and class them as my local bike shop even though I live down south and they are based in Scotland!

Free Flow Bikes in Scotland will deliver free and give great service. Good prices as well as normally give 10% off. Just got some Devilles, a Vip’r and new 20mm axle for ck front hub for £1200.

Looks like he’s doing just fine to me. Still was the best in his time when 99% were apparently doing drugs so he would have still been the best if they were all clean imo.

There was a view that using CO2 cartridges was the cause of these but I have seen them when not using CO2 as well so it cant be that.

The use of CO2 speeds up the process of breaking down the mixture, creating these buggers as they are known. The CO2 reacts with the chemistry of the fluid and I believe breaks down the ammonia or what ever helps to keep the sealant stable. I have stolen all this very basic knowledge from another thread about sealant .

Did Willy’s on Sunday and is was quite good fun, a little chewed up but not to bad. Is the start of Oblivion just further up the Longstone climb from Willy’s going straight down the side then cuts in left to end up at short combe? I can remember you pointing it out to me from Hare’s Knapp a while ago Sharki but we never rode it.

I really do like the idea of this matching Bos suspension, especially as everyone says how well they cope in the mid stroke which is where my top of the line Fox suspension set up suffers no matter what I get done to it. My only concern with Bos is the reliability as it seems a lot of people have to send them back to get fixed all the time, also the height of the Deville fork on my ASR5 frame, but I can always run more sag if required maybe.

Another thing to bare in mind with bos forks iis your rear shox might feel very poor in comparision, to be fair you would have to think about either a vipr or cane creak air to match the forks performance.

I was just wondering if I would need to get the Bos vipr shock to match as well! Not sure if this suspension set up would be over kill on a ASR5 or just the bomb!?

Deville are the same length axle to crown as a Fox 36 fork; which is 10mm longer than a Fox32/RS-Rev… and hence probably a little too long for your Yeti.

Also… if your not finding the Fox 32 flexy and scary then no need to go up to the 34mm of the Deville, and if you use the travel adjust feature of your TALAS forks then your going to want either a new Fox TALAS fork an RS Rev Dual Position.

All very true and will save me money as well, plus I wouldn’t probably notice the difference in stiffness. Shame RS no longer do the 20mm axle on the revs.

if you are looking at Devilles you should probably be considering a burlier bike.

True but love the 5! I just like the idea of running a 20mm axle and 34mm stanchions. Bos do ave a new distributer but not sure who. My original thought was revelations but every one I spoke to revad about the Devilles..

I got a tune done by Mojo earlier this year, it made a little difference just not what I was hoping for.

I understand what you mean by effecting the suspension as they never feel as nice as fixed travel forks. I want to get rid of the Fox Talas as they don’t seem to prop me up enough, and I have to run more air pressure to get the stable feeling. I always use the travel adjust on all climbs as it makes it easier when it gets steep.
Can anyone tell me the crown to axle measurement on the Bos Devilles 140mm travel forks?

Cheers for your comments, both of your views are exactly what I have going on in my head!! I was looking at the revelations as they have the travel adjust, if only the Devilles had this option it would be a no brainer

I always bleed mine with just a pair of the backing plates for the pads in the callipers. I have the pistons fully pushed out, then once finished lever them out gain with screw driver so I can then set the bite point to rock solid or further into the lever stroke. So yes, top them up with pistons out a little more and the bite point screw out fully if using tech levers.

Yep, all reports state it is and they are chatting about them over on mtbr forum. This is if you are using the same hose type.

New Hope V4 is lighter than the M4 and uses same rotors with a lot more power. So you could save weight by running 160mm rotors front and back as well.

Maybe I will put a little thought into it on sunday then, just so I don’t come a cropper as not too young anymore so no longer bounce as well!!

It looks easy to find on a map being first left after the split in the track as you climb up longstone hill, hope I’m correct in my assumption.

Its good in the dry but it tends to hold on to the mud a bit & there are several steps created by exposed tree routes that will be difficult to see under piles of leaves.

So do you suggest its best left alone this weekend as never rode it before and revisit it next spring when its dry again (fingers crossed) I do like a challenge though and will just plough into it with hopefully not too much thought as this can slow you down!!
