May see you on the trails Saturday as down their in the morning riding from 9am onwards from Holford and if your in the Holford area at 1-1.30pm ish pop into the pub and I will shout you lunch and a pint for clearing the trail. Once again thanks.

Well got my new Hope Tech Evo V2 brakes the other day, fitted and have tried them out and they are amazing brakes, oodles of power when required but with fantastic feel and modulation I just wish I had go these ages ago. Weighed them as well as switched out the hose to run with my already existing hope normal hose and the total weight gain per end over my X2’s is 47g per brake including the difference in rotor weight (the callipers are only 14g heavier than the X2’s!) Begs the question why their is a need for the X2 brake or even the M4’s. My thoughts would be to just produce these V2’s with smaller rotors if people wished.

Troy lee designs do some really light pads, around 250g the pair but forget what their called. I’ve had some on order from crc for 2 months but are meant to be in the country on Tuesday.£40 cost. Read nothing but good reviews on internet.

Cheers Shane, will certainly take some chopping although I expect its abit rotten aswell. Will try the ditch run 1 day, I just like all the roots and the way its like a slalom course at the start. Have the trails dried out?

Hi Sharki, Yes its the one to the right of the ditch dead opposite the car park. The tree is towards the bottom just where it starts to straighten out and about 150 meters before it joins the end of the ditch run at the bottom of the combe. That would be great if you could clear it as it was a bit of a largish tree and was too heavy for 4 of us to move! was up their about 3 weeks ago on a sunday when it was very monsoon like weather, I think you were up their yourself showing a group around.

Duncan’s number at Specialised HQ is 02083913500. He will sort you out and I’m sure they do a crash replacement so will work out slightly cheaper.

Reverb post can be had for £190 from Hibike delivered and in under a week, all me and my mates have got ours from their.
Bleeding the reverb post is a sinch and only needed as you get a long hose length so need to shorten to required length, no different than any disc brake.

I asked Hope about the pedals and they said next year, also asked a bike shop I use which get great info and they said the pedals would be available to trade in January so will basically be on sale to the public in February.

Stert into somerton is the red line on your map to the left of black hill, its my fav descent. Also slaughter house is whats called black ball hill on your map. Dead women’s ditch is the car park and is on your map, the descents (theirs 2) are across the road in the trees. Frog combe (their is 2 descents either side of the gorge) is the tree line between black hill and robin upright’s hill, 1 is the black line into the trees the other peels of the red line on the other side of the trees. Some of these can be viewed on youtube so you can get a visual for next time your their, or seek out sharki’s guidance as he will show you round if he is in the area. (can be found on this forum occasionally.

Still enjoyable and can give a different challenge with sketchy cornering. Was there 2 weeks ago when it was like a monsoon, the lower half of somerton can be a little slower but only at the bottom where it shallows out, Frog combe was still reasonably quick and five lords was still one sweet trail. The main thing I noticed was their seemed to be quite a few fallen large branches seemingly from the weight of the rain and them being rotten. Their was 1 large tree which had fallen across the twisty descent off dead women’s ditch which needs someone with a saw to clear it.

I can see why Trout has concerns but from my experience I bought some of the deal extreme lights which were cool for a couple of winters but after a while you long for something with a little more quality so you naturally move onto better quality lights produced by people like Trout and luminous. From the response and feedback Troutie gets I don’t think he and others like him have much to worry about. The difference in quality of light output between DX lights and high quality units is night and day…

140mm Talas on mine run with only about 20mm sag, I also run around 40% sag on the rear so the feeling is a little softer, great handling bike. My talas used to be 130mm and since extending to 140 I can’t tell any difference apart from obviously taking bigger hits a bit better. Really great fun blasting down hill set up like this.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience, I have always used middleburn cranks and have also had to use their warranty in the past with some faulty isis cranks and they were first rate. As with the BCD I don’t have a clue, I would imagine that it would be the same as most shimano as you can fit the chainrings of your choice to these. I may measure mine if get time..

look on the link I posted for a reference on the 4 arm spider. Also the clearance on the chain stay is identical to my previous XT cranks! so I take it you have been reading other threads and not actually tried them?

I bought the middleburn x-type Duo cranks recently for my sram 10 speed set up. Works perfectly, just take time in setting up the gears and the shifts up front are sweet, plus I’m no pro racer so not worried by speed of shift as only talking 100ths of a second! main concern is that it actually changes gear.
Also the new duo which I have mounts on a 4 arm spider so to make the replacement rings cheaper as before the inner duo ring was the spider so was costing around £80! not any more. Buy them from RJC Xtreme as will only cost you £205 as you get a £20 discount for items over £100 I think. Here is the link to save you time:

Great cranks and British with a life time warranty, can’t go wrong..

Phone them up, you will probably get a new shell through the post in a few days, or they may get you to send to them and they will rebuild it for free. No other company will sort you out as Hope do.

Yep, I was a little worried when I got mine with them stating 60hr break in periods, feeling really draggy out of the box and needing to continually adjust, after 3 rides needing to adjust either mid ride or after they are running super smooth and really quick. Really looking forward to the first service in a month then getting the hub tool to completely strip down. I was warned by many shops not to get them but I think they are a quality bit of kit and a home mechanics dream. Looking forward to more than 10 years of fettling!

How can you be a tightwad if you forked out for the hubs in the first place!? Just get the real thing also triflow is needed and can be used as a chain lube.

The feelings you get from nearly crashing/sketchy moments, or when on those rare occasions you do actually feel that your in control of your bike and also all those lazy fat pie eating smoking people we see all around these days getting a taxi to the shops at the end of the road!

Get the FIT damper, best upgrade on my talas, then use fork juice. I have to add compression tuning when using fork juice. I also swapped the uppers out for a tapered steerer.
