I have an N S Surge and it is a delight. Can run up to 160mm fork. It was a tip from someone on here. Very pleased with it.

We used to go every year when I was a kid, Hailwood and the riders of that era I am talking about. It was mind boggling then, its even more incomprehensibly brilliant now. I am desperate to go back with the family.Love love love it. Great vid 🙂

Is the chain wide enough for the sprockets, my chain took some time to settle in when I first built my SS. The chain hung up a little on the teeth on the sprockets.

Thanks, some useful advice which I will take note of.

I have just bodged a splice in for now to get the door lock working but I fear the design is fundamentally flawed because of the constant articulation of the wires in the loom. Having had a good look there are a number of wires where many of the strands have fractured and the insulation is split.

I think I will periodically need to repeat this process unless I can improve on the existing set up in some way. 🙁

Cheers for input so far folks and I am looking at the Maplin site for the necessary bits.

I am thinking of investing in one of those Butane soldering pens/irons, is this a good or bad idea? in terms of right tool for the job I mean.

I bought some colder weather gloves from Decathlon last year, after experiencing the same issues as you. They were excellent so I bought another pair. Good price too. 🙂

Hardwood pressure treated sleepers last a lifetime and have been used to support train rails in saturated conditions under heavy loads for decades, no problem structurally or for longevity. As long as you construct a decent mass foundation for the vertical supports the sleepers will deliver an attractive ( accept this is a personal view) and cost effective retaining structure. I have built a number with excellent results.

I do love gabions also though. 🙂

Have you considered hardwood railway sleepers? I considered gabions and I am a civil engineer so gan get the baskets and rocks to fill at a reasonable price, but the sleepers worked out much cheaper. Filling the gabions is also a skilled task as has been mentioned I believe.

There are some great examples of sleeper retaining walls, I think they come up with a Google search.

    Hi

If you decide on an Alpine I will be putting mine up for sale this weekend. It will deliver to your requirements without any problems and will be a delight in alpine conditions with a 150mm fork. 🙂

    Hi

I was out last night and ride there several times a week. It’s been wet so obviously the rooty sections are a bit slippery but I would not describe it as greasy as hell, though some sections are perhaps more lively than others. It’s still possible to ride at a fair pace if you so wish. It’s forecast to be wet and windy all week so it’s likely conditions will deteriorate.

I have ridden there for years and only heard of the nail plank incident in the press once. I have heard of no other occurrences. There is the odd spate of ‘stick lady’ but they are usually of the low interlect placement verity.

Do the ride it will be wet everywhere and the trails are great. 🙂

I really wish I had one of those near where I live. Tamworth never gets any good bike stuff built in it.

Tony (jedi) and I have ridden with largely the same group of riders, off and on, and all of the same trails throughout East Hertfordshire over the years. (with the exception of Herts Shore) so we would probably reveal the same trails to whoever comes for a ride. Feel free to mail me if you want to catch up for a ride. Usually do Tuesday evening and Thursday evening in the week and much longer rides on Sunday morning.

Where are you situated Mr S ? I am about to issue my Tuesday evening ride invitation for a couple of hours around Broxbourne and surrounding trails. We ride three times a week around Hertford, Stevenage, St Albsns, Epping and all of the other locations in Hertfordshire already mentioned on this thread. If you or anyone else want to join us or just learn some new trail let me know.

You must aspire to be a ‘big hitter’ and acquire a specific set of suspension forks in order to posses people in the event of a missdamena.
