If you use identical thicknesses of glazing then you have the coincidence dip at the same frequency in each pane thereby allowing for increased transmission through the window. As odd as it may sound 6/16/4 double glazing blocks more sound than 6/16/6.

For road traffic noise you need to look at the Rw Ctr reduction.

    4/16/4 double glazing = 25dB
    6/16/4 double glazing = 28dB
    4/8/4/8/4 triple glazing = 27dB
    6/16/6.8 acoustic laminate = 34dB

You want to add mass to the structure in order to mitigate against the low frequency sounds such as traffic noise (especially busses and hgv’s)

Rockwool is your friend in this regard, try to isolate the internal skin from the external roof and walls as much as possible to reduce the chance of flanking transmissions.

Don’t use Triple glazing for noise reduction, it makes a very small difference in the overall sound Reduction. utilise a specialised acoustic glazing such as pilkington optiphon.

Make sure you use noise attenuating ventilation, lots of people pay a fortune for noise reduction, then cut a great big hole In the window frame for trickle vents or walls for passive ventilation.

Given by far the biggest risk is nitrogen dioxide then masks will not do a thing.

The current thinking is that even on the particulates side of thinks the biggest issue is with pm 2.5’s. These are so tiny that any conventional mask will not be much use anyway.

I think the licence requirements is based on frequency but mainly power. You can use the licence free radios for any purpose, it’s just if you want to used the more powerful radios you need the licence.

We used to have a licence and use the more powerful radios years ago, but with mobile coverage bring so good now we haven’t used them in years.

Out in Colorado for 8 days of splitboarding backcountry adventure, 470 avalanches in the first 9 days of March have killed that plan, level 5 avalanche risk everywhere.

Stay safe out there everyone, especially as things start to warm up, no amount of fresh tracks are worth dying for, and all the safety kit in the world won’t help if you get caught in a big one.

Salomon boots are very narrow, I have the same flat wide feet and narrow ankles and the only boots that fit are 32’s with custom insoles.

This is annoying as they are traditional lace up boots and don’t last very well, but it’s better then being in pain all week.

If oil goes anywhere in the next 30 years it will be to increasing amounts of biofuel in the Kero.

There are 1.5m properties on oil in the UK and there is no way they are going going to push them onto renewables any time soon.

For the full audiophile on the go solution, have you considered a set of custom in ear monitors?

Having used over the ear headphones for the last 20 years I treated myself to a pair of ACS Evolve a couple of months ago and they really are a different league to anything else I have used.

Well according to Zoopla my house would be £1050 a month rent (I live in Luton) thats a 3 bed 1930’s semi with garage and a big garden, 25 min walk to station and 23 min train to St Pancras.

30% of urban generated pm 2.5s come from wood burning.

The evidence is there and has been for a while, it’s just been ignored.

Thats from the air quality expert group for defra if anyone wants the source.

Working, first weekend of festival season and miraculously I managed to:-

    Not get sunstroke

    Not get sunburnt

    Not lose any kit.

Eat my body weight in ice cream

All in all a good weekend

We have used soundstop absorbalay for impact noise issues. It’s been very effective and saved a couple of very high end venues their leases. Would highly recommend, but it is thick and will take a bit of work to get right on the stairs.

I have always used a brass brush on a Dremel, now quick but  I don’t want to risk damaging it by using a steel brush.

Slow and steady is the way forward

If it runs for about 10 min to start with then again for less and less each time it’s probably the solenoid starting to break down.

If it starts and runs ok for more than 40 sec it’s probably not the photo cell as if it’s not registering darkness it won’t fire and if it doesn’t register light it won’t run for more than 10 sec or so (but worth giving it a clean anyway!)

As lots have said stay loose and low, nice relaxed turns from the just the ankles with bent knees to absorb any bumps.

persimmon lenses are good but not the best, for proper whiteouts the hi yellow lenses work much better, but if the sun comes your you can end up in a world of pain, they are known as eye bleeders for a reason!

Also if you can get a lesson or two if you are really struggling, have a search for a BASI instructor in your resort.

We use the Davis Vantage Vue for work, reliable, easy to use and surprisingly addictive looking at real time data. I am considering getting one for the house.

Not cheap, but good kit, anything cheap will just not last.

I have used 25mm fireseal foam on a number of jobs, works well at reducing reverberant noise, not sure how good a location that is, but this will minimise the Noise build up in that space.

    https://www.easyfoam.co.uk/fireseal-acoustic-foam.php

My biggest concern is the floorboards under the washer transmitting the noise throughout the house.

Do not put them on anything other than a solid floor if you possibly can, structure bourne noise can be a real nightmare, as it is almost impossible to predict where it will re-radiate from once it is in the structure. If you do need to put them on floorboards use a dense rubber product such as absorbalay matting with a boards to sit them on.

Ok that does sound a little over the top, but obviously the details are key.

Company is Joynes Nash Ltd, We are fairly big in the event noise side of things, do about 100 festival and outdoor events a year from 300 – 300,000 people.

Venues we look after include Donington Park Raceway, Printworks London, Tobacco Dock London, Rainbow Venues Birmingham, Canal Mills Leeds, Bowlers Manchester.

Happy to have a chat through the issues, often possible to resolve with out going for full assessments etc.

I should clarify I am not a lawyer but any an ex EHO now work as an acoustic consultant, specialise in event noise. 5 in 12 months doesn’t sound excessive, especially if not late, and whilst no defence the fact that they have not objected to the TEN’s doesn’t help their case.

Unfortunately we a have seen a lot more overzealous reactions over the last few years, as the experienced staff have had enough of the cuts and walked, leaving junior staff out of their depth.

Feel free to PM me, happy to have a chat.

Yes, it’s very difficult, been on both side of the fence through to Crown court level, costs for the loosing side on that one were around £250,000.

Best bet is if there is a defect in the notice, or if a business are using Best Practicable Means (BPM) to not cause a nuisance.

Be very careful as to what legal advice you get as nuisance is a very contradictory area of law, and there are not many solicitors or barristers who have meaningful experience, but they are out there.

If you can give a bit more info that would help.

John Surtees, multiple motorbike champion, then to win F1 is still an unbelievable achievement.

I’ve always liked him from his first season, even through his petulance and praising God…

what this has to do with how great a driver he is I have no idea!

Surtees could have thanked God, Allah, Buddha, gravity or random chance and he would still be the greatest!

I imagine I’m one of the few here who know the meaning of rt60’s username

It means I was trying to write a report and choose a username at the same time 😀

Room nodes will also lead to variable levels in different areas of the room even with a constant source.

With the downloadable spectrometers, I would treat them with a big pinch of salt. They may give you an idea, but even with £10K+ of laboratory calibrated equipment, there is still a significant margin of error at low frequencies and phone mics are notoriously unreliable below 100Hz.

    rt60

Windows give a very different level of attenuation at low frequency to mid and high frequencies.

A double glazed unit that will take out 32 dB for the across the spectrum down to 100 Hz will only take out 6 dB at 25Hz, this is around the frequency of idling large Diesel engines. The end result is that outside you may not be able to hear the engines as their Noise is masked by other background noises, but inside those noises are attenuated by the window and the low frequency noise isn’t, which is why it becomes noticeable.

Either that or if you have an old burglar alarm the old internal wiring in the control unit can become degraded and cause a hum at either 50 or 100Hz which the battery will still power when the electricity is switched off at the main. You should be able to hear that coming from the unit if you put your ear next to it.

Good luck! Low frequency noise issues can be very hard to track down.

Any alteration you put in the way will alter the intention of the recordingists.

You can never hear it as the recordingist intended, as all rooms will have an influence on the received sound.

Eq allows for the recieved sound to be altered at different frequencies to take the room characteristics into account.
