Btw chakaping, I read your review a while back, one of the positive write ups that made me want to get one so thanks :)

I’m doing something very similar, hoping to get two bikes out of one with
two sets of wheels. One with an internal width of 30mm with 2.5 dhf front, 2.3 aggresor back (bought 2nd hand what, they came with) and second 25 width with maybe racing ray/ralph combo that seems to be a good xc setup or even thunderburts as more of a gravel/no mud bike. Haven’t received my frame yet so it’s all pure speculation!
Sounds like the more downhill setup will be great but not sure if the bike will be much fun on road/gravel rides even with lighter wheels as the reviews of the bike seem to praise the descending aspect.
Would really like to try a rigid setup too just not sure if the bike is too slack to get the most of it…

Looks great @rootes1 nice job. How are you getting on with the Schwalbe G-One All-round’s? Considering a second set of wheels for my hardtail for more road/unpaved lanes/better draining singletrack during winter and looking at tire options, these look good but would appreciate any feedback.

    Cheers

Shame not have been out on it. Tbh I’ve got another frame on order but its taking its time getting to me so Ive been tempted to pursue other options but managed to hold off so far! The paradox was one of those tho so if its a large raw and your letting go send me a message :) (sorry op, end of hijack)

@fd3chris does that mean there’ll be a paradox frame for sale soon? :)

Ok great, I’ll prob try them with the remote for a bit but if I end up not using it it’d be nice to do away with it.
Great to hear they’re working nicely Mugboo. Had slight second thoughts reading that people prefer shorter offsets on 29ers now but seems the difference is small and I’d have to pay twice as much for something of the same quality.

Just bumping the thread – I’ve yet to fit mine from the mega wiggle deal but just wondering if anyone who has the remote adjust, can you just leave it in open mode and not attach the remote? Would prefer less clutter on my bars.. Spoke to tf about changing to crown adjust but the part is £60 odd plus they recommend them doing it so a service cost of £105 too.

Also, how are you getting on with them?

Which greases do you recommend and for what dethbeard?

Spannermonkey – had considered invisiframing but pricey and sounds like a pita so just going to patch locally for cable rub I think

Thanks everyone this is great. Already got a workstand and 1/4” torque wrench for small things. For larger stuff like bottom bracket/cassette/centerlock rotors do most people just go off feel for tightness? Don’t really want to buy a larger torque wrench just for that.. and the margins are probably greater?
Have cut a steerer and installed star nut on my previous bike so fairly happy with that. And I managed to set the crown race with a bit of scaffold which seemed to do the job! It’s the cable runs that I’m most concerned about – how much loop to leave at front of the bike.. And also setting up the derailleur tho I’m sure I can find a good video on that.
Good shout on the bleed kit, I’ll get one in case. It’s all external routing for brakes but they’re coming off another bike so they may need changing in length.

Great info Reeksy, thanks. What sizes are you on the respective frames and how tall are you? I’ve got an smax on order but still can’t decide whether I want the stanton more!
Without riding either the theoreticals I based my decision on were better tubset on the cotic for similar money (v the taiwan stanton). Slightly higher bb for better clearnce – lots of rocks here. Longer effective top tube – last couple of bikes I’ve had to push the saddle back to get a comfy position but would prefer not to do this to prevent unwanted wheel lift up hill.
The one that bothers me an that I’ve heard a few times and your write up kind of confirms is the chainstay length and whether that leads to the cotic feeling a bit dull. I want it all, confidence inspiring downhill, forgiving frame but playful and fun too!
Be great to hear any more thoughts you have…

Thanks for your feedback guys. I’m going to have a think, it does sound like a nice bike tho i wish there were a few more reviews out there to get a better picture of how it rides.
If I could afford the full build it does seem like a good price tho apparently the lyric option isnt possible till may next year! The cane creek options look great to for a bit more dosh tho I’d be worried about not being technical enough to set them up well..
Anyway plenty to think about. Cheers again and enjoy, hope you get to go further afield soon :)

Thanks Bagstard, did you do you own build or a stock one? I’m 6′ so pretty certain a large, is that what you’re on? What size dropper are you running?
I’m on a trek fuel ex 8 at the mo but it’s too small for me (it’s a m/l) and i thought if im changing bike i might look towards something a bit more downhill oriented but don’t want to go over the top or compromise climbing/ general trail duties either. Seems to fit the bill.. what sort of stuff have you taken it on?

That’s my thinking Chakaping – just picked up the latest toro at a decent price from sdj sports. Couldn’t stomach any more outlay for the more powerful options. Fingers crossed it’ll do the job.

Recently bought a few bits from them. Friendly and willing to talk on the phone, seem very knowledgeable and had pretty keen pricing on what I bought. Only downside on parts is that their returns are 7 days so doesn’t give you a huge amount of time to change your mind.. I’d definitely recommend them on my experience though.

cokie – in what way do you find it better than the sloaris max? Interested as have been looking at both of these…

I’ve got an itch to do my first xc event too (just sub 40 with fitness level concerns!). Any recommendations for events near West Yorkshire?
    Thanks in advance

Mmannerr – want to do this too as could only get 29 130mm with remote but would prefer crown adjust. Tried to look on dt swiss site but the site was crap on my phone so gave up looking. If you find any info out post it up please…

Also was a bit concerned about servicing as i guess they’re a bit more niche but spoke to a tecnician at tftuned and turns out they’re actually dtswiss affiliated so should be pretty reliable for parts and knowledge.. he reckoned they’re a great bit of kit and total bargain at wiggle price..
