It’s an almost brand new wheel (doh) so nipples shouldn’t be seized. Theres no damage to the rim so I’m pretty sure its been caused by the rock crashing the derailleur into the spokes and affecting the tension (by bending them slightly? I imagine that’s the only cause possible for loss of tension as they can’t have unwound?). So my thought is that the spokes on the other side of the wobble should still be at the correct tension and I just need to adjust the spokes that the derailleur has crashed into. Or maybe it’s not that simple!
Whats a good spoke key brand?

Ok great, I’ll look for a youtube tutorial. What’s a good spoke key? It’s for a dt swiss xm1501 alloy wheel if that makes a difference to what I need.
Also, is best to take the tyre off?

I bought a pair of mezcal 29×2.6 on a good deal a couple of months back that I’m not sure I’m going to put to use now. Let me know if you’re interested. I paid £40 for the pair, happy to move them on for that plus postage.

I think they ship with a couple of tokens in, try removing them? Been meaning to try this myself.

How do you guys running the stooge bars find the backsweep compared to regular bars? Is it noticeable? Comfort v control?

I just bought a set of those in 60mm rise to help out with some neck pain. From experimenting with lots of spacer and a set of 25mm rise bars I think it’s going to help plus I’ve actually feel in a better position for steeper descending. The stooge ones look ace, shame the aluminium ones are out of stock, though they’re a mere 38mm rise. Am tempted by the steel scrambler ones though! Would be interested to see how much the sweep changes the feel.. shame there’s not a bar library where you could rent different types out before deciding which to buy otherwise experimenting could get costly!
Good article on the hang ups the mtbiking community have on such matters here.

Think I’m going to save the difference and wait for the Lyrik. Bit cheaper, service intervals are longer and perhaps easier to work on myself, plus it sounds like a slightly better all rounder. Also tf tuned have found a b1 head and nut so I can swap it over to the old spring if I feel it’s needed (I had another thread asking about that a while ago, seems to split opinion).
Thanks for the offer drp but I’d prefer to buy new and get a warranty. Plus Push conversion, is that a coil?

Ah yeah, can see it now. Unfortunately I’ve convinced myself I need a short offset through reading too much bike blurb.
Why are you selling if you don’t mind me asking?

Thanks for the thoughts. Helm actually comes in a touch heavier than the lyrik I think. Pike might suit my riding a bit more but can’t find any availability.
Will probably attempt lower service myself but will send off for anything else.
Was thinking 150mm straight off if only to get the front up a bit due to some neck pain.
I’d be keen to save the cash between them, it’s just I’ve got the rest of the bits for the bike ready to go and getting impatient! There’s always the chance that said delivery date gets pushed back too at the moment..

Not sure if its the same woods Wonnyj is suggesting but if you’re heading over Bodmin/wadebridge area then Grogley, Bishops, Hustyns woods has some great trails. Don’t know it well enough to suggest a route, I just used trailforks and had an explore.

    Just sold one.
Put it on ebay, gumtree, pinkbike. Advertised for more on ebay because of fees. Buyer found it through ebay but I pointed him at the gumtree ad so he could contact outside of ebay and I could do a lower price.
As above, asked a reasonable amount and sold it fairly quickly.
Did get a few scam enquiries through gumtree which got quite annoying. Things like ‘let me know your postcode and I’ll arrange a courier’ without asking anything about the bike, or ‘I’ve just paid you via paypal I’ll send a courier’ with a fake screenshot of a paypal payment. Had one claiming she was a blind woman buying it for her son and then saying she’d pay in full but needed me to deposit money in her acc first! Bizarre and tiresome.

I live in Calderdale so the riding is steep and varied and I love building trails and features almost as much as I love riding.

Any chance of hint of where you’re doing this @Mugboo? I’m in Calderdale too, always keen to find something new :)

Cheers andy and onza. I’m just going to stick with the c1 I think. Getting it from tf tuned actually and they strip them down before sending out apparently so should have the correct oil amount in there.
This is the problem when you have to wait for things, too much time to think!

Now there’s a lot to chew on!
I accept I may be overthinking this but when putting a significant lump down on something I want to feel like I’m making the right decision.
Just spoke to jtech, they like the b1, no stock of it but say theres an aftermarket product due for release soon to help make the c1 more supple..

See, this is what’s got me thinking, people seem pretty opinionated on it. Last thing I want to do it spend over £800 on a fork for it to feel harsh!
Anyone know where you can get a b1 spring? Cursory internet browse not fruitful..

    rstephenson

Righto. I’ll give it a go then. Probably over thinking it as a result of too much online searching. It does seem to divide opinion though. Hopefully the advantage of going with someone like tf tuned is that they can set it up nicely and do things to it that I don’t have a clue to!
Be interested to see how you go with the c1 swap Joe.

Thought £1600 with a super deluxe ultimate was pretty good..

I’ll qualify that by saying relative to other extremely expensive things in the extremely expensive hobby of mountain biking. It’s still a lot of dosh.

Anyone give me a quick tutorial on how to quote on here..?! Tech idiot alert..

Scandal – that was the first thing i noticed when I picked the frame up, how light it felt, certainly a chunk lighter than the fuel ex frame it’s replacing. Ive broke my scales tho so don’t know exact weight. Got mine done in wasabi with orange decals, looks gorgeous. Really dont get this ugly thing people seem to think about them, personally I think it looks ace.

Chakaping, I asked them that because the 2020 was a substantially revised design from the previous gen and they discontinued it after a year. Hope that doesn’t imply it was a shocker! They said something about pushing the evo and the stage 5 being in a complete redesign.. 🤷‍♀️

Just bought a 2020 orange stage 5 frame direct from Orange (one way to make it cheaper it seem). Can’t wait to see what all the fuss is about!

After thinking I was never going to be able to release the bolt on a sram gxp crankset I ended up using an irwin quick clamp to squeeze the allen key against the crank arm. Worked a treat, nice and controlled and was on ridiculously tight.

Anyone running these yet? If so on what width rim and how are they fairing? Currently only have 25mm rims I could try them on, just wondering if that’s going to be too floppy/squirmy at lower pressures…
Also I might go for a slightly more aggressive front for where I ride, any experiece of the aggaro in 2.6 as a good all rounder up front?
    cheers

I’ve got one, built it up recently. Fairly new to biking, it’s my second proper hardtail after a 29er inbred (I’ve also bought a full suss inbetween).
It will probably have alot to do with how my riding’s come on over the last year, and the poor (suntour xcm) and then average (rockshox recon) forks I had on the inbred, but I was terrified and shaken to bits on some of my local trails (west Yorkshire) on the inbred, but now with the solarismax they’re just a hoot.
Also, seeing as I’m quite new to biking I’ve read alot about bikes being really long these days with no great experience of what they used to be like, but at 6′ on a large it fits perfectly, definitely wouldn’t want it any shorter, and also after reading a few reviews and watching the hardtail party review I kind of got the impression it was going to take ages to get used to, but a couple of rides in I was just really enjoying it. Again, maybe it’s because I haven’t had to unlearn years of riding habits on different styles of bike..?
I bought it because of it’s versatility (good descending, good for longer rides, tow the kids, bikepacking ability, takes 29/27.5+), wanted to try an 853 frame (hard to compare the ‘suppleness’ of the frame tbh given my little experience), and really don’t like that seat post brace thing that lots of manufacturers seem to go for (the bfe max included I think).
In short, I find it ace but would love to have a go on one of the older models to see what the difference is given how much people rate them.

Well just bought the kit so I’ve been persuaded, but if all of those for invisiframe think elephants are good at hiding in trees maybe I should reconsider 🤔

Really don’t want to, want to get out and play! But have a feeling I’ll regret not protecting it. It’s a nice sparkly orange so maybe scuffs could show quite a bit..
It’s a bit pricey to pay someone to do so looks like I’ll be getting the baby shampoo and squeegee out..

Looks like there’s some good options out there and it’ll be a case of trial and error to find a good balance of speed/grip/durability. Have ordered the nic/razor combo as well as the ray/ralph and I’ll take a look at them when they arrive to make a call which way to go. The forekasters sound good and I’ll def consider them next time but got maxxis on the other wheelset so interested to see how schwalbes go.
Just one last thing on the 2.25 v 2.35, do people with experience of both feel a noticeable difference in comfort/grip? Is it a case you can run the pressure a bit lower because if the increase in volume?

    rstephenson

Just had a quick look at those wolfpack, look like a good option actually

    rstephenson

Thanks for all the suggestions. I definitely want to feel some zippiness to make a big enough difference from my other wheel set so maybe I’ll stick with the ray ralph combo, but might also get the razor nic combo to play with too. With the the ray/ralph, is there a noticeable difference between the 2.25 and 2.35? On paper it’s bugger all size wise and about 80g difference a tryre, but does it equate to more comfort? Going on a hardtail so that would be nice.
I was pretty tempted with the vittoria offerings too, they look good, with the Maxxis ones there are so many I can’t get my head around it.
I will also take a look at those wolfpack but have to admit I’m getting tyre fatigue!

Thanks lawman, will bear them in mind, that was front and rear then? Sounds like the middle ground I’m aiming for. Kind of got my heart set on a rock razor now tho (slow mo powerslides in head)

I can find the ralph in a 2.35 but not the ray so didn’t want a larger rear tire.. maybe I need to look around a bit more, they’re available on t’other side of the channel for sure, but they seem reluctant to sell to us now!

    Thanks,

Already have the compressor so just looking for the attachment Stu.

Hatter – Sounds like a plan, saw those Park ones, very nice but way too expensive for blowing a tire up! With the topeak adaptor do you just chop the line from something like the draper one that zerocool has linked and reattach with jubilee clip?
