ndthornton for them to put enough oil in the lowers forit to reach the seals would probably cause issues on full compression, there is maintanace advice that comes with forks that says how often they should be looked at.

it is amoving part it wont last for ever if not maintained.

Sunday went for a ride at gisburn for the first time ever having canceled the day before due to forks though i cant cancel a second day, how ever suffered greatly from Pizza on sat morning, and every time i put some effort in had to find a bush, sorry to anyone who may have been near by.

Right as stated got everything i need i used to work as a bike mechanic but the company sent forks off i’m well aware of the process its just trusting my self t do it.

Once i recive my o rings the service will be on its way.on a plus note the other party, has offered to split cost of the servicing, with out being asked.

I will also be measuring up o rings and seeing what i can get together in the future. as a set of metric and non metric o rings can be had pretty cheep from my local engeneering suppliers.

haratiohufnagel, where did you get that quote from my astra 1.9cdti, just had its head done, glow plugs, and cambelt and water pump by VX for £420,the cam and water Pump were due to regular service interval and the rest were down to begin on there first ones and sitting a 140,000 miles.

As you say if you have a good one you tend to keep them.

There all pretty much the same, and anyone who says different is just a fan of the one they like.

Different things go wrong in different engines all cost about the same to replace. the VAG ones last a little longer but you pay the premium when they go wrong. So it doesn’t work out much different.

Just service them and change oil regularly and don’t be to harsh on the turbo till its warm. and let it cool down no matter what anyone says.

    lol thanks Nick.

They are one side air, had them appart tonight but don’t have the seals. its the air side that i thought might give e an issue as it has lots of plastic at the top of the cart rage which i assume has a seal in it.

    They were described as

“had these for about 2 years not used very much and work like a dream would swap for some xc light weight forks there for 26” wheels and have lock out, damper and travel adjusters “

As i say he later said they hadn’t been used in about 8 months.

Anyone know of some good deals on forks 140mm adjustable downwards, with 1 1/8th

or if the reba seals will fit pikes as thats what evilhomer is selling

My forks were immaculate, Litraly just been serviced not even back put back on the bike.

the forks were swapped and i was told they hadn’t been used for 8 months but were working perfect before that.

I expected to have to replace a o ring or 2 but nearly every one in the forks is nacked.

I’m not winging about the other party as all was above bored, and we both understood the risk, But realistically what are my cheapest option,s and whats a similar fork.

I would love to wear trousers but cant find any that fit well and dont get caught up in the chain ring.

If i wear tights or knee pads my knees feel like there going to explode so, baggys it is for me. I wear thick socks, and lots of upper layers though.

I wasgoing to say most places i have been in europe the main town’s/cities are social with the odd shops, and then major retain buildings just outside them.

I find them much more plesent places to be.

However I feel if this thread was about a LBS being closed due to the likes of Chain reaction every one of us would be saying how sad it was and to support your local store. I Know that the companies mentioned are big chains but there the ones that hit the head lines your local shop whether its music or bikes suffer too.

Does it really effect any of us.

I hope there not for there own sake, but in the long run LA doping didn’t effect me in the slightest, all it did was turn another child hood hero into nothing, Like batman, and spiderman and santa and the easter bunnyand the tooth fairy.

I don’t think anyone can deny that at the time he was an inspiration, but they come in many forms.

Let them have there time and enjoy it.

Tell your insurance, they will sort it,as stated above.

but what a muppet, ifi had rear ended someone and they offered me to pay in cash i’d have bitten there hands of for £300, and no whiplash claim.

My other half went into the back of someone 2 years ago the damage cost arounds £200 plus admin, with out whiplash claim. and we must have payed around £1000 extra on insurance because of it.

The down side is if your OH does have and health issues long term as of it you would have no help from the insurers down the line.

My LBS charged £20 an end for bleeding brakes, thats not including any seals. and pads were around £15 per end.

A brake and gear service would set you back around £80 for hydrolic brakes and about 60 for cables. Including gears. Very expensive.

But in hind sight that might be why they all went bust. and wereknow as the local bull sh*ters.

Now I have a much cheeper local bike shop but travel time and cost doesn’t weight up, good thing I can do it my self, have most tools needed and the post man is my friend

My employers have cut everyone hours from ridiculous to minimal.

I was doing 60+hours a week, which was good but from 1st of jan i am struggling to get more than 25, only thing is they only do 20 hour contracts.

They say it is to make people more flexible, but they have recruted another 10 staff members, and the rest of us are looking at second jobs meaning were actuly less flexable.

They are also trying to tell us we arn’t aloud a second job. But to hell with that

cynic-al I appologise you didn’t condone that at all. But your post does seem to suggest that it isn’t a cyclist responsibility to make them self’s visable

It is every road users responsibility to make them self’s visible.

Drivers need to drive to the conditions, but we as cyclist should have the ounce to have some lights if we are going to go out in fog low visibility.

I was out on the Ped today and saw a cyclist, cutting a blind corner in very thick fog. even if the car was doing 2mph he wouldnt have seen the cyclist, and in the opinion of people like cynic-al he would be in the right.

Every road user should take responsibility for themselfs and others.

I have mentioned on other threads that i work for a super market as a deputy manager. But never said where,I work for Aldi, and can tell you that there fruit and veg is very fresh, delivered to head office warehouse then to stores within 24 hours orders made 2 days in advance on predicted sales.

I could go into the many ways they keep prices down other than limited branding, small staff teams and the other obvious stuff but other than that it is in our contracts not to discuss the workings of the company.

But i Will tell you they defiantly arn’t struggling, and have NO debt

Full service History is a must on most old cars, remember it is a monthly/annual thing to.

But dont be silly about it use your common sence. I work with a guy who has bought cars with full service history, with the opinion this is good. but they hadn’t had the major work carried out they just had a stamp.

I bought a car for half the price with half the miles. No book service history but recipts for all major work. and mileage at time.the garage wont accept this as service history. But the key is to actuly look through it and not to take a stamp to mean all good things.

Shop around someone drove into my car doing similar damage.

I got quotes from £230 – £600+ vat. Then found a local garage that does lots of fleet work, but is a little out the way.

£200 in total including some bonet chips and some rust on the other side of the car. Excelent work too.
