Was looking last night you can get 10yr fixes at just over 3% so the banks don’t think rates will rise much anytime soon.

This is what I’ve always thought, banks are unlikely to sell themselves short, fixed rates are almost always likely to have some cushion in for the bank to absorb over the term.

Even if you don’t have kids, that fly over canada thing is pretty cool too and worth 30 minutes of your time, I went for the first time a few weeks ago. Was blown away by how good it is. edit: i expected it to be complete shit, so my expectations were low.

If you have two days, I wouldn’t waste it on a trip to the island. plenty to keep you occupied for two days.

Don’t go to the capilano suspension bridge, go find the lynn valley suspension bridge and hike the trails there.

Obviously if you want to ride, rent a bike, and ride fromme or seymour.

And on the canadian news this morning > Earthquake in Northern B.C. caused by fracking, says regulator

British Columbia’s energy regulator has confirmed that a 4.6 magnitude earthquake in northeast B.C. earlier this year was caused by a nearby fracking operation.

….. you’re part of the problem…… wasting your time and money commuting……if you lived nearby and walked or cycled to work……not sustainable.

way to go pulling out all the context

I work in the “country”, my wife works in the city.

Fine, i’m not picking on you, everyone has to do what they have to do, do you want me to be more specific, if you’re single, or if you both live in the country and work in the city, etc, etc, blah, blah

deviant, people living in the countryside generally isn’t the problem, assuming you also work in the countryside somewhere. But if you live outside of the city and commute into it, then you’re part of the problem, you’re also wasting your time and money commuting, that could be spent more locally if you lived nearby and walked or cycled to work. Nobody is trying to convince everyone to move back, but we need to build the infrastructure to promote this type of lifestyle as the alternative (more people living in the countryside/suburbs and driving) is not sustainable.

Miketually – Last I checked Amsterdam is a city which is low hanging fruit. The real challenge is to engineer the suburbs and commuter belt in such a way that mass transit is a viable option.

You can build bike paths out into the suburbs, that happens around Amsterdam too, engineering the suburbs for mass transit is never going to work well, they developed because of the car in a manner that works for the car, they would work fine if most residents in the suburbs didn’t all drive into the same nearest city along the same few roads. The problem is there homes are not on that corridor nor walking distance from it.

If you live in the suburbs you have to accept you will never have great mass transit, growth and new homes should be focussed on densifying existing cities or existing transit corridors so that new population is added in a way that adds the least number of vehicles.

Very few of the cyclists in Amsterdam probably call themselves a cyclist, its just how they get around. I was there last month, its kinda surreal to experience it!

How Amsterdam became the bicycle capital of the world.

solutions to the problem are relatively easy and well known, the political will to take space away from cars is a whole other problem.

most of us still drive because there isn’t a viable alternative.

If you want to have the option you have to choose where you live more carefully.

This may be a unique situation not really encountered in the uk too much but i’ll say it anyway, I have a single pivot 200mm travel rocky mountain flatline and split pivot 140mm Devinci Troy, used the troy in the bike park for the first time last weekend and to my surprise found it considerably better over the braking bumps than the dedicated DH bike. so if you brake over bumpy stuff a lot, stay away from single pivot.

oh, and despite only selling it for a $1, we made about a $1000 with coverage on here as well as some other big websites, downloads dropped to a few a week after that initial flurry so I figured I’d make it free, rather have people using it than not, now it gets about 20 per week or so.

This is my app, http://www.app-uncture.com/bike-setup.html, luckily I had a wife that was a developer, that just got laid off and wanted some more iOS experience, and I had the idea for it, I played with the website and icons and general layout with no prior experience, had bigger ideas for it but then she got a full-time job again, hey-ho.

I have one, used to wear it all the time first month or so, now I really only wear it on the bike, right now its not much good as a training tool, as no other apps can read the HR data, this will change when OS2 comes out soon and it will become way more useful.

Right now I use it for starting and stopping strava while my phone stays in my pack. I run strava and the apple exercise app at the same time so I can at least see my HR while out. How they thought this was acceptable for launch I don’t know.

decent wheels, way lighter than the stock wheels that came on my troy, they feel stiff enough, not super wide, but my 2.3 minions are fine on them tubeless and mid 20’s PSI.

I have a pike dual position and its pretty damn plush! granted my previous trail fork was a sektor solo air, but I also have a downhill bike with avy cartridge boxxer, the feeling I got fitting the avy, like where did all the bumps go, I also got going from the sektor to the pike.

I’m 5’10” on medium too, there seems to be a thing about the Troy being short, I don’t find that at all.

Any reason not to buy one? you’re a mincer and it would be too much bike!*
