spooky wood is great bit of trail which is why its ridden so much, now if your not enjoying it your either going too slow, or if its beneath you and not extreme enough then go find something gnarlier. There’s always the option to ride somewhere else. As for the new bit well I haven’t ridden it so can’t comment on that.

Yes, I’m sure, now I may be your average trail centre mincer and a few runs down glentress isn’t going to push them that hard, but i know plenty of people who do push them harder than I do and are more than satisfied. Not saying the push won’t make them better but they’re pretty bloody good out the box. If your friend that melted them was pushing them so hard maybe something like a lyrik or boxxer is more the fork for them.

If you hadn’t wrote MUST in capaitals in your original post it probably wouldn’t have led to the next ten posts.

??? exactly, i don’t know anyone with pushed pikes and everybody I know with them still loves them.

Because they’re awesome forks that don’t require looking after, haven’t you been listening?

My coil pike 426’s have been running super smooth for nearly 3 years now, never serviced them once, quick hose down and thats it. I should really have a look at them shouldn’t I.

Goes off to find service manual.

Have to say i’d be pretty pissed off too if I was in the car, if i’m holding some one up its just courtesy to let them past be it a car, or a faster rider come up behind me, not really fussed what mode of transport they’re on. And if I’m the one on the bike, personally i don’t want some pain in the ass driver sitting an inch from my ass while i’m trying to enjoy my bike ride.

Well rode my Alpine for the first time today, very impressed with it. Definitely need a chain guide with the single front ring setup as the chain kept dropping of at the slightest hint of a drop.

Was out early myself with the trails to myself so decided to try some videoing with my little digicam, looks reasonable if a little lame in places, first time on the bike in a few months though and first time back on a hardtail so looking forward to pushing the alpine each time i get out. Surprising how tiring it is walkign back and forward to get the camera and trying to get the bike up to speed without having to go too far back.

at the end of the trails, still looks remarkably clean, I was filthy.

Video here. once it is processed.

Have to say the comments about a PA or whatever being too much bike is such a lot of pish, granted maybe you don’t need the extra strength but that’s like saying we don’t all need our six inch full sussers, in most cases we don’t but they’re bloody good fun.

Any of the current steel hardtails are going to be pretty good and everybody seems to love the one they’ve got, I took my alpine out for its maiden ride today and it was **** awesome. Get whatever one you like the look off, your unlikely to be disappointed.

Yeah, for sure get a whole new bike if you find something you like and swap the good bits like hope/xtr onto your bike, then put the new bits onto the old bike and sell it whole or just sell the parts, done that a few times.

If you just want to change a few bits, a better fork would probably make quite a difference, haven’t ridden the dart but i think its pretty basic.

sounds like more of a piston issue, i’ve never had a problem lining up post mounts and far prefer it to the faff that IS mounts were.

Sure it’s a different feel – it’s just that what you’re feeling is lateral flex, not vertical.

Fair enough if you hit something like a kerb square on you might get that much travel out of your tire, not generally riding, your rims would be constantly fecked. You seem convinced your right, have you ridden lots of different frames?

So how is that going to make a noticeable difference given a bump of several cm in height and 50mm of tyre flex?

50mm of tire flex, how big are your tyres?

I never mentioned that it would make any difference over any particular size of bump, its a different feel which is difficult to quantify but its there.

Interesting thread, just caught up with it all, i’m of the opinion that you can feel a difference, it might be fractions of a millimetre in actual flex, but there is definitely a different feel. I’m surprised there’s not more people with this view giving all the inbred/cotic/dialled lovers on here that go on about their steel hardtails.

It does look good doesn’t it, I can’t wait to get out on it at the weekend even if it will be in the snow.

If you’d like to ship it to canada with a case of beer i’ll build it up for you

Cost, Well most stuff came off my Enduro, frame was won off ebay (new from their US distributor) for $280, shipping to BC, Canada unfortunately came in at $100 and then UPS raped me at my front door and demanded another $70, but all in when you work it out, I think I paid about 300 pounds. Only other parts were a new headset $70, Chromag Post ($80) and Chromag collar $45

Just picked up my seatpost and collar yesterday, only issue is that the bolt in the quick release collar is too long when you have it done up tight enough, going to have to get the hacksaw out to that.

ackie, I’m 5’10” and from my little ride around the car park last night it felt pretty good, I’m glad i got it over the 15.5 and i feel the 21 would def be too short, I may still opt for a slightly longer stem than the current 50mm. Will get it out at the weekend first though to see how it feels on the trail, **** snowed last night too, good few inches, so going to be a fun ride.

Anyway here’s pics of the complete bike apart from maybe a chainguide. I’ll see how much of an issue it is first without it.

North, I would go to a different bike shop if they’re telling you that. Sounds like just trying to sell the more expensive bike to me.
