conti’s are the only tyre i’ve ever washed out on, it was conti flow 2.3 or 2.4s, granted they have a low profile tread but i hated those tyres.

Only washing out on one brand of tyre? I’ve washed out on every tyre I’ve used!

Well I’m just your regular trail centre type rider, I don’t race so I guess don’t push my tires as much as some others but those conti’s were terrible. I only bought them to reduce the rotating weight on my 06 enduro for a merida, tried them the week before at innerleithen and wiped out on the first decent.

Currently have super tacky high rollers, have lots of faith in them, even just looking at them they look grippy.

I’m surprised you actually need to diet doing that much exercise per week. I found the SIS Rego recovery stuff really helps after a big bike ride. don’t think you’ll really notice much additional performance as such, although it should help i guess, its more that you don’t feel so sore the next day and can do it all again every day like you seem to be doing.

From evans website, i would go for one of these, but Malt 1 would be a good buy too.

More of a worrying figure is the percentage of weegies now living the wrong end of the M8!

I thought they just came through for the day to steal and pillage, they have to be back under their bridges before midnight or they’ll burst into flames.

I hate tradition, load of bollocks! why should I have to do something a certain way just cause the generations before did. Makes no sense to me.

TJ, not sure what you mean about the angle of your maxle lever, mine always points backwards. Is that wrong?

To the OP, 20mm all the way, its unnerving when riding a bike with regular drop-outs after spedning time with bolt throughs.

you can try , I looked at the geometry of them both and overall there are a lot of similarities between the two, there not identical but they are quite close.

    16.5″ Alpitude, ST 420mm, TT 578mm, HT 110mm, Chainstay 425mm, HA 69.5, SA 73.5, BB Height 312mm, Weight 5.25lbs (also has 853 seat tube)

    17″ Alpine, ST 431mm, TT 558mm, HT 105mm, Chainstay 424mm, HA 68.5, SA 74, BB Height 323mm when sagged with 130mm fork, Weight 5.65lbs

So yes there are differences, not that many and not enough to make me prefer one over the other based on geometry alone, the alpine was more readily available to me in Canada and i like the look of it that little bit better.

this was mine, weighed around 33lbs was an awesome bike but felt like a change, all the parts have now been hung on a dialled alpine.

muppet, thats one seriously back to front enduro, nice and light but considering the forks would you not have been better off with a stumpy or even an epic. I don’t get it!

why not get the enduro, its basically a more expensive pitch, just had a quick look at the evans cycles website and they have a few there on sale in small and medium.

*I was out for a ride at the weekend which involves a lot of downhill stuff then a ride back up the road to the top of the trails, b@stard thing was that i realised part way down that I’d forgotten to bring anything to drink. I was gasping by the time I got to the bottom and the cycle back up past tons of half empty bottles of water and juice (chucked out of car windows) was pure torture.

    * this is only vaguely related to the original post as it involves litter.

I think the weight factor will depend what bikes you’ve had in the past, I went from 4-5 years of riding full suss, back to a Dialled Alpine (30lbs), so its obviously lighter than what i’m used to. If you’ve got a background of racy hardtails then it probably will feel heavier.

Another steel convert here, its the way to go for a general trail bike.

agree with pauly, hired one for the day at glentress as I wanted to see what all the fuss about these steel hardtails was about. It was very nice and I think you’d struggle to find a better off the shelf steel hardtail. It convinced me to bite the bullet on an alpine frame which is very similar.

I was agreeing with you mr agreeable. Personally i couldn’t go back to riding a short travel race type hardtail, had a shot of a friends stumpjumper hardtail last year and it just felt weird and didn’t inspire confidence on anything remotely technical.

Just read the last few posts but hired the genesis alpitude at glentress when i was back in the UK over xmas, very nice bike and I would take it over any alloy framed bike. Since trying that now have a dialled alpine which is kind of similar and loving that. Depends what your prefer of course, stretched out is fine if thats what you like.

That was kind of my point, i’ve seen jedi’s pics and for him maybe spooky wood ain’t much fun although still surprised by this, for the average rider its pretty dam good.
