Fair enough, just looking at the CEN website as I’d never heard of it.

    About us

The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) is a business facilitator in Europe, removing trade barriers for European industry and consumers. Its mission is to foster the European economy in global trading, the welfare of European citizens and the environment. Through its services it provides a platform for the development of European Standards and other technical specifications.

Mission to foster the european economy? More like make everybodies life a pain in the ass. Wonder who decided the standards that applied before weren’t enough?

Would be interested to know what changes are required to meet these new regs too. **** europeans screw everything up.

Cy, not trying to be an arse here, but failure from fatigue after two years, is that not possibly caused by defects in the material?

So is NZCol a millionaire then?

Can’t believe some of you are so bothered about this, if it means that much you should be growing your own fruit and making your own smoothies! Agree with trailmonkey completely here.

Ripping off what was already there  How about vastly improving upon what was already there, feel free to stick your head back in the sand.

ok, i know there are shorter versions which is what i was intending to get, but there are some good deals on the longer fork, bike will be used on the north shore and at whistler so not just your average uk trail centre. Just wondering if anybody had tried it and what their experiences are. A 66 is another option but i’m very wary of recent Marzocchi’s even though they are also dirt cheap at the moment.

fair enough guys, would be good to see more trails, how far up did the proposed lift go? still think GT would be a better option, its far more established. [dreaming]You could even turn all those flattish fields next to the road into a mini whistler village. always thought that would be a great location to build some little holiday cabins.[/dreaming]

ok, i’ll stop winding you up smee, for the chairlift to be viable they’d be better sticking it in at glentress and sticking in a few more runs all the way down from around the top of spooky wood area. I think people view Innerleithen as more of a hard slog xc route or a full on downhill route, most riders i think prefer the type of trails at GT and would probably be more likely to pay for a chair that serviced those trails.

So is 6 months of Whistler better than 11.5 months of the Tweed Valley?

Yes, even one week is better, don’t get me wrong though, I love the trails in the tweed valley.

And how long does whistler spend under snow each year?

Probably about 6 months, bike park is usually open may to octoberish, the first month or so might be a bit wet. You asked if there was more dust, I suspect whistler is dustier longer than innerleithan having spent 30 years in scotland, and one year in vancouver, we had a great summer here last year and all the locals were like this is shit, if it was I can’t wait for a good summer.

maybe similar levels of dust, but the tweed valley dust looks more like a paste 99% of the year.

nice, here’s the pic to save folk clicking the link

do those mudguard things on your fork actually work? I fail to see how they stop any mud/spray hitting you.

I would be slightly concerned if grit is getting in under the boot, its not really doing its job, can you fabricate something like the official shock guard out of a plastic bottle or old inner tube or something?

i’ve got the same issue with a set of bontrager lock on grips, now maybe i fastened them on too tight but it seems the heads on the screws were made of some form of cheese and have rounded completely, i’m now trying to figure out a way of getting some thing small into the hole to cut grooves for a screwdriver to get the feckers out. not easy on such a small area.

might not be dust in the vents but there could be elsewhere inside, might be worth opening it up properly and getting the hover and duster out.

l’d stick with shimano, have always had problems with truvativ chainsets, probably the cheaper ones that came stock on bikes, but thats put me off.

If your thinking of a new bike then stick with what you’ve got for now, if your that concerned don’t pull the brakes so hard, surely its possible to exert the same (lesser) amount of force on the rim as you would with v-brakes.

agreed, very **** annoying, not good for sly forum dwelling at work either and lets face it, if nobody viewed it at work the viewing figures and forum posts would drop significantly. adds are fine but drop the videos. Pretty Please!

here’s the plan for the burnaby park and a few pics of it during construction, shamefully i live 5 minutes from it and have never used it since it opened last summer, prefer my general trail riding and all the kids are so much better.

Are you embarrassed to be using fox forks or something? You should have posted them as 2010 pikes, i’m sure a few would be like WTF! 8O

Kind of agree with the above, i won’t shed a tear but you’ve got to feel for the family.

Like bunnyhop, i’m more disturbed by how it happened, i’ve fallen a few times on my board this year and don’t wear a helmet, although I keep thinking about buying one. Who knows what could have happened if i landed the wrong way or something.

So you were already running a half marathon then pushed yourself hard the last wee bit and your heart rate went up a bit, you also felt a bit tired, duh! That’s how it works!

I pulled my Hone cranks apart to clean them when i swapped frames, also weighed them.

    Hone Bottom Bracket, 96g
Hone Non-Drive Side Crank Arm, 228g
Hone Drive Side Crank Arm, 395g
    Hone Middle Ring, 43g
    Straitline Alloy Bash Guard, 123g
    4 Crank Bolts, 12g
Total Weight for single chainring setup, 897g

The granny and extra 4 crank bolts would add about 50 to 60grams i think.

Chris, I have a very similar commute although not quite the same hectic life. My 9.5k ride to work takes 20 mins and ride home typically just under 50 mins, all downhill there, all uphill coming home. It never gets easy and it never will, uphills just aren’t that easy, there was a quote somewhere by lance armstrong that basically said anyone that says they flew uphill is talking bollocks.

I’m a bit of a fair weather commuter and cycled for the first time this year a few weeks back, took me an hour to get home, so i obviously lost some fitness by not cycling the last few months. I think your body can only adapt to a certain point, you won’t keep getting better and better and you’ll reach a plateau.

My fastest time home was 44 minutes one day when i was really pissed off, I guess sometimes you just need the motivation to bus your ass. Still annoyed by a friend however that would regularly do it sub 40.

I’m not sure what the difference is between the two forks you mention so can’t comment there, carbon post and bars will make a noticeable difference to alloy ones, but a metal stem is just a metal stem. you won’t feel any difference, certainly not on a commuter, I would consider the X4 might feel stiffer flying through a rock garden but it’ll make **** all difference on the commute, seriously get whichever one you prefer the look of.

i think it’ll make absolutely **** all difference what you choose, i can’t believe you even asked the question.
