hey alpin, watch out some gypsy's about to nick your bike :D

Nick, not so keen on that log ride but the rest of the burnaby mountain trails are pretty good, i live right on top of the mountain too so its handy having such trails so close.

Hey mike, how about some riders videos on the site. These aren't to super gnarly but my two recent efforts of me riding my alpine. I'm sure there are others and it would be good to see how far people are pushing it with theirs.

    Lower Snake Trail

    Upper Cut Trail

I could even cut in some sexy shots with the camera panning over the frame :)

I really want a hammerthingy but 1) don't have the money and 2) still have doubts about the BB's, but really like the idea.

that makes sense, you're using a +20 when you really need a +5, hence not getting full pad contact, find a different adapter or buy a 160mm rotor maybe.

Well I must admit I expected to be the only transport planner on here!

This place is full of consultants pretending they're working

I did win an NPS (sport) race at Coed Y Brenin a couple of years back which isn't exactly a roadie's ideal home terrain, so I'm not a complete disaster on a bike!

you probably would kick my ass, its been a while since i've done any proper climbing on a bike.

I'm probably one of the quickest transport planners in the country. Possibly one of the quickest QUANGO employees for that matter! I'll take solace in that!

I'm a transport planner and if your a bit of a mincer when it gets technical i might beat you there… but i'm not in the country anymore… so you can keep your award :)

Burnaby Mountain is a great little mountain with quite a few trails, enough to keep you busy for a couple of hours anyway, even the black graded ones are quite easy. One of the best features though is that there is a bus every 15 minutes with bike racks to take you back to the top :D Sounds good though, my riding is much the same, but if you want to try say pipeline on the shore I could show you that too, I'll fire you an email and you can get in touch nearer the time, what are you riding?

Should be able to sort something out, my fiancee's mum and sister are coming over in a weeks time and leave on the 9th Sep so I might be a bit tied up until then doing the tour guide bit, afterwards I should be able to show you round. whats your riding like? Interested in the north shore? bringing a bike?

you did see me back flipping though didn't you?????

The new forks have been great, I wasn't sure what to expect with them being the cheaper 302 ones but the biggest compliment i can give them is i don't really feel them there at all, an absolute bargain at about 150 quid.

Its weird having people complement my riding as i generally think i'm very average, camera for the upper cut film was a kodak v1253, a pocket digicam with HD, the Lower Snake one was filmed with my new Panasonic TS1 which is their newsih waterproof camera with HD, both were filmed in HD, converted to 720x4XX mov's before uploading to youtube.

Thanks kit, but yes those trails are rideable for mere mortals and my riding skills are probably well below average for where i live. Burnaby Mountain is always suggested as the place to start before you hit the north shore but it has some great trails which still account for most of my riding. Took about an hour to film each one… and seriously munque chick… you never skid??? you must be going to slow :)

ok, but your idea of fun and other peoples idea of fun is sometimes different and thats allowed, obviously the full suss is technically a better/more capable bike but fun? Thats a different question. Many people on here have had big full sussers and got bored with them smoothing everything out, I had an 06 Enduro, an awesomely capable bike but got bored with it and I'm now loving having a big hardtail, I may get another full suss in the future just, i might not.

Hmm….I see a challenge coming on….RS Vs J-Cloth in a head to head down Upper and Lower Ladies Only.

Is that picture not pink starfish… at least thats what the link says? I haven't ridden that trail but that bit at least looks doable on HT. I actually did have thoughts about taking the video camera out there this weekend and finding that bit of trail.

    FS would be better!

In what way? I could get down it on either, FS will feel smoother thats all.

I bought some used mavic deetraks wheels off one of the product design managers at dakine.

I've stood at the creek gap that wade simmons broke his leg on up fromme, can't believe people do that on a bike. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNTejL2CAPk

thats the best/worst i can do.

Not that it really matters but surely a full suss goes through bigger swings in head angle as the suspension compresses at the rear it slackens the head angle more than on a hardtail. You'll be surprised what you can do on one of these hardtails I've pushed boundaries i never did on my 06 enduro, although that's more to do with growing some balls than the bike.

Enjoyed that, i've been doing a bit of that self filming stuff myself, this was my effort last week.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnDIhrzmniI

If i could offer any constructive criticism, a proper tripod would help so that all the shots aren't looking up from the ground, and try and take the camera further away from the trail so we can see you riding for longer. I've just bought a panasonic TS1 with HD video for helmet cam/bike filming duties, its sitting at my desk now and i still have 3 hours before i can get home and play with it :x
