Do the entrants get a 20s head start if they ride a cove bike with a funny name?

A heart rate monitor is a reasonable idea, its surprising how slow you have to go to stay in zone 2 which is essentially a recovery ride.

What I started doing is picking somewhere with a good view, place to chill, or coffee shop around 5-10km away, ride there, chill for a bit, and then cruise home, so the purpose isn’t the ride itself but to chill for a bit, rather than cover as many kms as possible in the shortest time. After doing that for a few weeks, it became habit, to the point I now feel like i’ve wasted my evening if i don’t fit that in on days when i’m not doing proper rides. Sometimes now that even becomes my preferred ride and I push it a bit on the short climbs. Will see if that continues once the weather turns.

LOTS of junctions still have a big ol’ delay when EVERYONE is on red/red-amber, IME.

The all red is usually at large intersections, sorry junctions! where it might take a while to clear a turn if you get caught in the middle or… because people run red lights so they add time to make it safer!

And I’ll give you an example. As horrible as it sounds, when they throw the large sacks of drugs over, and if you have people on the other side of the wall, you don’t see them — they hit you on the head with 60 pounds of stuff? It’s over. As crazy as that sounds, you need transparency through that wall. But we have some incredible designs.

Quote from the transcript, Is he concerned about people getting hurt throwing sacks of drugs???

I was gonna say if you rode a loop, or someone was on the outside more often, that would be a good explanation. The real explanation is they are not 100% accurate.

Don’t listen to the soundtrack first, that’s akin to finding your Christmas presents before you open them. Don’t Google it either just go and watch it.

Haha, too late! and you’re right, I was like what’s all this pish!

he’s pretty much said it is the bike fitting him better, because of the big wheels, and the young ones motivating him again.

You make it sound like you’re far from the north shore which you won’t be. On street riding in poco is pretty bad, but find a bus to take you close to the shore, all buses have bike racks, just stay at the front and keep an eye on your bike, or get family to lend a car or drive. Burnaby mountain is ok for a quick spin after work, but find a way to fromme or Seymour.

I’ve been trying to ride almost every day lately, so maybe 2 or 3 rides a week are proper mtb rides, the rest of the days I cruise down to the water somewhere to add in some miles, spin the legs if they’re tired and just generally help get some sun and keep me sane. I do strava every one though to track how much riding i’m doing.

I’m impressed they could spell cyclist when the first two words were clearly a challenge! But they seems to be referring to just one cyclist and not all cyclists…

My problem with podium girls isn’t so much that they exist, more that they’re often the only place where women are visible in cycling. This week the Giro Rosa is taking place with virtually no tv coverage, whereas the podium girls at the TdF are on TV every day. I want to see women in a variety of roles in cycling and elsewhere rather than just acting as trophies.

Please take a minute or 30 to watch the EWS and DH highlights from the weekend. The TDF is one of the biggest sporting events in the world so of course it gets a ton of coverage, the girls just happen to be a side part of that.

I think we need to ban all professional sport, except maybe darts, as all the fit athletes are making me body conscious :(

then be amazed at how useful quick links are :)

Ok so I’m clearly missing something! Easy to do trust me.

How do I take links out without using a chain tool and reusing a pin?!

shorten chain to correct length by removing pin, throw away bits, use quick link to join chain without using chain tool or pin.

crew cab pick-up sounds like what you need, won’t be cheap and you’ll need to secure bikes/luggage somewhere when not riding.

I’m swapping a chain out and I’m going to have to take links out of the new one so what’s the point in the power link seeing as I have to use a chain tool to break and join the damned thing anyway… ahhhhh

Did you buy the powerlink off ebay? There’s loads of fakes on there.

Who goes into business thinking, today i’m going to make fake power links? 8O

Everything should all be open unless they’re using a particular trail for a race, bike park or valley trails. Tons of trails so you’ll be fine whatever is on.

I’ve ridden with just a water bottle, phone, energy bar, small specialized SWAT multi-tool on bottle cage for a while now on any ride around the 2 hour mark. I think the switch to tubeless changed things for me, only once have I had to walk out in that time, sealant had dried up and I flatted.

Only spent a week there, if I didn’t mountain bike, I’d love to live there.

One sided strut is to give access to the shock for changing settings and lockout. Not for looks!

only if the shock has to go through the seat tube, look at a bronson or stumpjumper frame, there’s little need for a strut there at all, and you get access from both sides and a symmetrical bike. Therefore, its entirely for looks, although i’m sure they will claim a stiffness benefit.

It does look great, I feel like they added the one sided strut thing just to say, hey it looks like a demo, plenty other bikes seem to manage with no strut there. The colour thing is pretty cool though, going to have a play with that, albeit I just dropped $500 on new brakes for my current bike, so its going nowhere for a while.

pick one of your regular climbs on strava and give us the length, elevation difference, time on regular bike and ebike, and HR data if you have it.

edit: and give us a DH segment too!

thanks for the explanation beej, makes more sense now and good to know about peaking, i’m not training for anything, just trying to get myself in better shape really.

In the past I have felt fatigued a lot, the HRM is actually helping me to take it easier, for example, I have a big climb to get to the trails near me, now I take it easier if I know I’ll be riding a lot the next few days for example, seems to be working.

One of his main gripes is that these “easy” tracks make the racing too tight. Obviously he wants harder tracks where he can be 20 or 30 seconds off the pace.

So how did Atwill lose 11 seconds in qualifying when its such an easy track with no line choice or difficulty?

They all love to moan so much, its becoming a bore! Every week its something else! should have moved the race forward cause it rained, boohoo, should have closed the wood section cause it was too difficult, boohoo, this one’s now too easy, boohoo! Just get on with it and ride the track in front of you! So its bike parky, its just one out of the year. Whats the thing with Schladming too? Watching the deathgrip section, it looks mostly bike park too with a few wood sections. When’s the next EWS?

Also while China leads the world in emissions, its largely due to their size, 1.3 billion population v the US with just 325 million, so their per capita emissions are much lower than the US, obviously their overall emissions are still a problem…

ok, a little out of date, but doesn’t look too self sufficient to me, maybe if they all start driving electric vehicles and eating less meat to save the environment… oh wait…
