I’ve had mine for a few days now, at the end of the day it’s just an iPhone. I was due an upgrade and the 8plus was still expensive so I figure I might as well try the x. The notch doesn’t bother me, face ID works very well, the gestures with no home button seem natural. Cameras are good, but the 6s plus wasn’t bad, nice having portrait mode now. I like that’s it’s smaller. That’s all I can think of.

Presumably your building added traffic and blocked someones light. I saw a letter citing similar things in a local newspaper which i’m sure is from one of my neighbours in our 2 year old condo building adjacent to single family homes and which replaced single family homes, complaining about the construction site next door and the eventual new condo building their unit faces. Oh the hypocrisy.

Is that a cyclocross bike with a riser bar?

Its a Norco Indie commuter bike! Can’t you tell from my excellent drawing?!?!

Even if it was traced to get the dimensions spot on, so what! Why not use technology to do that quickly rather than half ass it. Fwiw, i’ve played with my pencil (oh er) tracing some photos, tracing is one thing, making it look so real is a whole other story. Here’s one example and some advice…

from the static image in the video It looks like the cycle tracks ramp down and become regular bike lanes through the intersections, thus they operate no differently than a regular bike lane, i.e. bikes have priority over side road traffic. I realize this is just a short section, they have to start somewhere… I look forward to seeing it in operation though, if anyone on this thread has a gopro…

What that video shows me is that they need to cut down on double parking.

that would be good to free up the on-road bike lane, on-road bike lanes do little to encourage cycling though, off-road provides a safer feel, separated somewhat from traffic thus encouraging those less experienced cyclists to ride.

I don’t understand – how will the new stuff stop people double parking in the cycle lane?

well i’m only going by the video but it looks like some of it is separated by a curb, and some by some delineator bumps, not guaranteed to stop people parking there, but better than the on-road existing bike lane, will no doubt need enforcement though, judging by the example sin the video.

I realize thats before, thats the point, before and after if you like. Imagine someone you know cycling that section in the video, someone that doesn’t normally ride, likely they’re just not going to ride there because its a mess, hence the need for a safer off-road option.

I’m just glad to see Edinburgh finally looking at some progressive options, as when I was back two months ago for the first time in six years, its woefully lacking compared to other major cities.

Masterful riposte. Everyday is a school day.

    Quoted for the record :)

The grades are the only real issue I see with this, this type of facility is for slower speed cycling, not pinning it for a new strava record, again, we have a culture of the only people cycling being MAMIL’s because you have to be pretty fearless to ride on the roads, to get everyone cycling, this is what it takes, albeit on a city wide basis.

Drivers will adjust, they should always be looking before turning, cyclists should also be aware of the risks and ride appropriately, i.e. slow down and check to see if anyone is turning, likewise around pedestrians, take care and don’t ride like a dick. Not every bike ride has to be a race, slow down, enjoy your safe cycling facilities, and at least give it a shot first.

You say this wasn’t needed, this video says otherwise…

There are many, i’m most familiar with North American guides these days, but these are generally following best practice from Europe. NACTO guides are the most progressive i’d say, but most others are following their lead, two examples relevant here…

I guess they’ve been doing it wrong in Copenhagen all this time, or in every best practice guideline released in recent years, but i’m sure tj knows better

Designing it for people that don’t ride bikes! I.e. to get those interested but concerned cyclists out of their cars.

This is how it’s done in many places, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, etc, and it works, the challenge is going from the cycle track which is now off road, into the right turn lane, so you do it in two stages, it’s unusual here because it’s the first, but it’s much safer, particularly for less experienced cyclists.

are you saying the bead won’t even pop onto the rim? is the tire brand new? inflate it with a tube first to at least get one side seated, then lots of soapy water.

Do it, the only downside is housing prices, especially now. It’s a desirable place to live so its expensive, and its a desirable place to live so they can pay cheap wages and people will still live here. I still make much more than I did in the uk, its all relative, you’d make much more money in Alberta and house prices would be half as much.

Are you going alone or with a partner? Two incomes make it easier. Do you have cash from house sale in the uk?

As a reference, my 2 bed condo in North Van could sell for $750k’ish, that’s about 450k pounds. Rents for similar will be about $2.5k/month.

I was comparing Canadian costs for the various options, 7plus only comes in 32 and 128gb, 32 isn’t enough so i’d have to get the 128gb 7plus which is $1029 here. 64gb is fine for me though so the 8plus is $1059, not seen what deals carriers will give yet, but 7 seems like a waste of time. The 64gb X is $1319 which over 2 or 3 years i’d likely have it isn’t really that much of a difference. Still undecided for now though.

I tried the kedge angle adjust one, but it doesn’t work well with short stems, maybe if you have spacers on top it’ll be fine. I ended up buying the barfly one richie rude uses after seeing a pic online…

I’ll be upgrading to something, but not sure what, smashed my 6s plus against a log while riding, still works but a bit bent, main thing I’d like is the dual camera, so may cheap out and get the 7 plus, or if there is any standout feature or major camera improvement, may spring for the 8 plus or X.

ps. Pjay, its ok, I will still go on holidays whichever one I get.

Mine lasted about a year, pins wore a hole in the sole, actually could say 6 months as I used them through the summer with the sole of holes! Also the sole is too soft and squirmy.

just throwing it out there because i’m aware the program exists, and was surprised how little time it took to get the licence, albeit you need hours to fly bigger planes. You can also come visit and ride the north shore, squamish and whistler…

I’m sure I read it originally had pedestrian and cycling provision, but was cut to save money. When I first saw that walk the bridge thing I was surprised they were making such a big deal that this is your one and only chance to cross on foot, like it was a good thing they left paths at the side out. As above, if they keep the other bridge open then fine, but bridges don’t last forever.
