I say iPad, its just a much more enjoyable thing to use, especially for a kid, while you can probably get similar apps for a laptop, the range of educational and fun things for the iPad makes it great for kids and everything is more interactive. And come on, how many of us had computers or video games systems when we were kids, most of us i’d guess.

Maybe a case of dad looking for an excuse to buy a new gadget… it’s for the kids… honest!

Don’t bring a hartail and especially not a 120mm XC one if you want to ride any of the good stuff, I rode most on a dialled alpine for a year, it was doable but so much more fun on the full suss, I swapped to a bullit initially which was so much better and I just picked up a Giant Faith end of season for $2000, there are deals to be had if you get out here in the winter.

the camera is not as good as other top end phones, build quality may be a little more plasticky than other top end phones, no idea what Android ICS will be like, there were good and bad things about Gingerbread, i imagine it will have a few more bugs than your iphone, but will have some extra functionality that you may or may not need.

Graham, that must be via push notifications though rather than it actually running in the background and downloading your mail. Which means the e-mail provider has to have a server to send the notification to your phone. But you have made me realise that I can probably set my gmail up to do this (do you have gmail, as it doesn’t do this for me out of the box? See I told you I couldn’t be bothered to customise my phone)

I can’t figure out quite what side your on, why would you need anything other than push notifications, don’t set gmail up using the gmail function of the mail app, set it up up as an exchange account (google it, not difficult) then you will have push gmail.

Apps can run in the background so you can log your cycle whilst emailing / texting etc.

You can do this on iPhone too.

I just went back to an iPhone after about 18 months with a Galaxy S, i’m happy to be away from android, things that sucked (won’t be the case with all android handsets i’m sure but enough to put me off another one) were terrible GPS performance which was a known issue with galaxy S. Slow apps, not written as well as equivalent iPhone apps. When switching to wifi at home, internet would often be really slow, slower than 3G. Lack of timely updates and likelihood of future updates. I’m sure there are more.

Things I miss, pull down for switching wifi on off. I liked the calendar widget but the new pull down in iOS5 has upcoming entries, it would be nice to be able to see them on the home screen though.

edit: lastly size, the galaxy S was about the right size, the top android handsets are just too big now and I really like the smaller size of the iphone.

I suggest riding at them as fast as you can…

i tried watching the same videos on the ipad2, xoom and asus, the ipad played them smoother, where flash was required it didn’t play that smooth on the android tablets, only occasional do i come across a video i can’t watch, often videos will come up on another site in a format you can watch. Combined with the issues about getting updates at different times all over the world, the customer service offered by the android brands just doesn’t cut it. I bought an iPad2*

*disclaimer: I also have an Android phone so not a total apple geek.
