this last week has been a bit stressfull, had to pay out to replace a phone I’d lost whilst out running. very tired and stressed after doing nights and having to look after the kids without any sleep became distracted at an atm and walked away without the cash. Partner is having a bi-polar crisis, work is very busy and I broke my sunglasses.
RoystonFree MemberCycling into work one evening I came across a copper getting a kicking from some bloke. It was early evening still daylight and a few people were around but just watching. Without really thinking I stopped dropped the bike, went over and grabbed the guy restraining him while the copper composed himself and then cuffed him. He then thanked me and I went on my way.
Later on it occurred to me to wonder whether the bloke had actually done anything wrong as I’ve been arrested in the past at the behest of my now ex-wife for some made up nonsense but he was giving the cop a good going over so I reckoned that in itself deserved a night at least in the cells.RoystonFree MemberRaleigh MAX (1995) fully rigid steel, made in England – my way to and from work. This bike was completely re-vamped for commuting after a car ran over me/it in 2006. Drivers insurance paid so I went to town, wheels, drive-train, panniers etc.
Orange 5(2005) new F&R suspension and wheels in 2012 (tax rebate windfall).
Trek SLR(2006) but I’ve only had it since 2008, Road bike used alot initially but barely used these days so relatively glad I didn’t buy brand new.
Avanti Kiss(2010) Singlespeed, Steel, 29er – sucked in by the hype, originally rigid but now with 100mm of squidge. This has been my go to bike for 2 years now despite being fortunate enough to get all the new bits for the five.
RoystonFree MemberDoesn’t the FA charge differ? in that Terry is charged with ‘bringing the game into disrepute’ (which in my opinion you could hardly argue against)
As I see it, it’s ‘in house’ professional discipline similar to ‘codes of conduct’ for other professional bodies and therefore not governed by civil or criminal law. So Terry shouldn’t rely on his ‘not guilty verdict’in the criminal case to evade his responsibility to the Football AssociationRoystonFree MemberI read the book some years ago and like you thought it was excellent. I’ve since recommended it to friends & family some of whom didn’t enjoy it at all. I saw the Film recently and thought it was also excellent (you will of course know what’s going to happen having read the book) but I thought it was very well done. Hope you enjoy it!
RoystonFree MemberPACE do a great ‘Event’ shell for 100 quid. Had mine for 6 years waterproofing is only just starting to tire.
http://pacecycles.easyspaceshops.com/PACE-3×3-eVENT-Mens-JacketIncidently, it’s the same price now as it was six years ago.
RoystonFree MemberMaybe at Man Utd RVP won’t be under pressure to play every game like he was at Arsenal. In which case he may not pick as many injuries therefore potentially increasing his influence over the games he does play in?
RoystonFree Member. The club looked after him through thick and thin, including his jail time (false rape charge) when others would have cast him aside. And he repays this with a complete lack of loyalty. I s’pose that’s modern football for you
That doesn’t make sense, he could of walked away in a years time (out of contract) and Arsenal would have got nothing (they paid 2.75M for him). At least this way Wenger’s got some cash and he(or his scouts)has/have a knack of identifying young talent with bags of potential.
RoystonFree MemberWhen learning to swim in NZ both my kids were taught that body wave thing that the butterfly involves right from the moment they got in the water.
Also, ‘Freestyle’ is what I always new as/was taught as ‘front crawl’ and not as far as I’m aware a ‘choice’. Unless it’s the fastest & most efficient and therefore became everyones’ ‘choice’ and has retained it’s name since as no one racing against it would be sensible choosing a different stroke?
RoystonFree MemberI recently replaced some Salomon boots from 2004 with a pair of Shimano MT91’s (I’m sure there made by someone else and just branded by Shimano). I was after a boot to do two jobs (hill-walking/ tramping mainly so far). They are very comfortable (great big toebox for wriggling when cold) Completely Dry (so far), they lace up firmly without slippage.Longevity remains to be seen and there is a fabric lace hole/strap on either side at the ankle that I am concerned may not stand the test of time but this is only as I’ve had other shoes I’ve used for sailing/canoeing/river-walking with similar fabric eyelets break. Very pleased so far, and a bargain at just under a hundred quid.
RoystonFree MemberFrom what I can gather so far It looks like I didn’t need to declare it(semantics), irrelevant now however and frankly I’d rather it was discussed rather than be seen (or assumed to be seen) to be hiding something if it came out later. Directgov website distiguishes between a caution and a conditional caution Definitely not a conviction though so that’s good!
Looks like the length of time it remains available to an enhanced crb was extended in 2009(this could of course be extended again depending on whose in Government). It will always be on my criminal record, however given what I said above this is all largely irrelevant.onceinalifetime
Rapist in the house!
seriously though, tell us more. Cue STW Flaming
‘Common assault’ my then partner attacked me with a kitchen knife during an argument a physical struggle ensued in which I held her wrists and smashed her hand holding the knife against a door frame until she dropped it. She incurred injuries to her hand ‘cuts and bruises’ and reported me to the police.
RoystonFree MemberI have a Thule 591 and an older Orange Five i.e before they slimmed down the down tube and I’ve done thousands of miles without a problem. Front wheel strap contraption sits right out at the very end because the arm clamp doesn’t allow the bike any further back.
RoystonFree MemberI’ve had an ‘Event 3×3’ (from Pace) for seven years and it was excellent. Light, breathable packed down small & kept me really dry when needed. I ended up using it all the time (not just out on the bike). It’s a bit tired now so I’ve just replaced it with a ‘Minimalist’ from Marmot, a bit more money, Goretex this time, packs down into one of its pockets and zips closed, has massive pit zips and an an attached hood and more pocket options than the 3×3.
RoystonFree MemberAn Abus Granit Steel O Flex 1000 100cm Cable Bike Lock (waiting for it to be discounted by 20% at wiggle) and MARMOT MEN’S MINIMALIST JACKET which I’ve tried on and is really nice but pretty expensive So still pondering.
RoystonFree Member$100 a year for a Nurses practicing certificate here in NZ. My Employer pays it. Without it I can’t work so would earn nothing. Given what other professions have to pay as highlighted above I’ve no complaints.
RoystonFree MemberSaracendan
I was looking up ‘Paul Lambert’ on Wikipedia this morning to resolve a dispute over whether he’d ever been a ‘Hearts’ player and he’d already been given the Villa job.
RoystonFree MemberI’ve just bought a Toshiba ‘Satellite’ i7-CPU, 640gb hard drive and 8gb of RAM, Independent graphics card – $1,000NZ, so 500 quid. (Just Googled) UK prices seem to be a bit more.
RoystonFree MemberI’m a Reading fan and I’m standing up.
Pardew did a good job for us at the time which was why we didn’t want him to leave and having so recently been let down by Mark McGhee it was hard to take.Cracking set up they’ve got there now. Ashley vindicated for his choice of Pardew (who no-one) wanted and a brilliant scouting / backroom team.
Watch out! He has a reputation for sh*gging players wives and ruining it all.
P.S
It’s just been pointed out to me that if Blackburn survive this season then the EPL will have four managers schooled at Reading at the start of next season.RoystonFree MemberI’ve been arrested when my kids were with me -at home not from a car- (they were 4&8 at the time). Police just asked me if there was an address they could be taken to whilst I went to the station and they took them there.
RoystonFree MemberI’ve just bought an R4 light (40% OFF), I plan to buy in the near future a replacement event rain jacket(Almost autumn in NZ) and an Abus Grant X-Plus Lock
RoystonFree MemberIf it should have cost him 390 quid and he’s paid 280 then I reckon he’s still got a good deal (30% OFF) You’ve a business to run haven’t you?
You could give him the 30 quid back but it won’t guarantee he’ll come back in the future. People need to understand if they want stuff and can’t do it it themselves it costs money to pay someone else to do it for them.
RoystonFree Member1996- Mazda Cappella 2.0 petrol 4WD Wagon(estate) 156000km. Cost me NZ$6,000 5 years ago when it had 89000km on it. I’m going to run it till it’s next cambelt (200000km. Essentials in my mind for it’s replacment Estate(wagon)for Big boot, at least 2000cc, 4WD for towing, NZ roads & unsealed roads/beaches, roof bars for my bike racks.
RoystonFree MemberI have (and really like) a Pace event3x3. Six years old and still going strong.
RoystonFree MemberNot really on topic I know but I’ve always been fascinated by Argentina. It’s the first World Cup I can remember and it seemed so exciting and exotic
I was eleven during the Falklands war and lived in Helensburgh which is close to the Faslane submarine base in Scotland. Most of the kids I was at school with had Dads in the Navy some of whom went to the Falklands (HMS Conqueror). We were on a primary seven school trip in North Wales when the HMS Coventry was sunk and all the boys seemed to understand the magnitude of what it meant.
Anyway, In 2004 I crossed the border into Argentina from Bolivia at a little desert outpost way up in the north (Vilazon- close to Sala de Uyuni). The border crossing was marked only by a small woooden porta-cabin and we got there on dirt roads in a minibus/taxi. You went in one side of the hut(Bolivia) and came out the other side(Argentina). Inside the cabin it was really bare. There were a couple of soldiers, a table and a big map of South America on the wall. There were about seven other people waiting in line to have their passports checked and stamped. When it was my turn the official saw my uk passport pointed to the Falkland Islands on the big map and says to me “Hey! Las Malvinas’ to which I reply pointing to my hand Hey!’the hand of god”Maradona’ the bloke laughs and stamps my passport and I go on my way.
I found Argentina a beautiful country and the people I met were very friendly and helpful and the steaks and wine were bloody good too!RoystonFree MemberTinker Tailor Soldier Spy- really enjoyed it.
Incendies- also very very good.RoystonFree MemberIsla de Cozumel(Mexico)amazing drift dives a few years ago(before the hurricaines and the oil)don’t know what it’s like now.
RoystonFree MemberIt’s been raining here for the last four days, more to come (and it’s summer).Off camping with the Kids next week (90 mile beach) so I hope it stops and the sun comes out.
RoystonFree MemberNot tax as such, but a month ago I got a call from the Inland Revenue here in NZ asking me if I new that I was elligible for a working for families tax credit (single parent, two kids, shared care). I answered by saying what I’d been told by them three and a half years ago when I originally applied which was that “I didn’t qualify”.
Well! it turns out what I was told then was wrong, and I did/do qualify and would I like to apply? (approx $160 each fortnight- starting next week if you’d like, thankyou very much, I say) “Oh! and if you fill in the forms we’ll send to you then it can be back dated to 2008” ($10-11,000)RoystonFree MemberRant: Lack of sleep (babies)I Know what you mean! (I’m on a night shift in a NICU)
RoystonFree MemberGround Effect ‘Exocets’ or the slightly cheaper ‘Supersonics’ great fit and very comfortable
