2.2 Ardent with EXO side walls would be a good choice. 2.2 Rubber Queen is ok too but side walls are a bit fragile IMHO

Glas Allt Shiel is a cracker, both fast and flowy, and slow and techy. Have managed to ride it all, bar the corner next to the waterfall. Puts a grin on my face just thinking about it.

Had ACL recostruction in mid December.
    Started physio after 3 days
Turbo trainer with little resistance after 3 weeks
Easy road riding after 4 weeks
Light gym work after 7 weeks
Off road riding with knee brace on after 8 weeks
From week 8 onwards, kept up physio, gym and riding and now 4 months later almost back to normal riding wise, however only started jogging 2 weeks ago as there was too much pain around the fixing point into the shin and still don’t have full movement of my knee. Still stiff and a bit sore most of the time but I don’t think I do enough stretching. Just remember that this type of op takes 9-12 months for full recovery.

Love my 5 with TALAS 36s. Most of my riding is steep ups and steep downs which probably helps. If you ride trail centre/ flatish trails this may not be the best setup. Dont worry too much about HA compared to an Alpine, as they’re much the same when in the sagged position as the alpine has more rear travel.36s and CCDB and you’ll love it.

Shifters, got them on both bikes. New shadow plus mech looks like a nice bit of kit, expensive but will be my next treat to myself, could get trashed first ride mind!

Bike was weighed on LBS scales, given a 5pro weighs around 28lb add 1lb each for shock, post and forks I thought 31lb would be about right.Don’t care anyway, rides superb. Do it BMC09 you’ll love it.

Have now stopped trying various saddles. Bought a SDG Ti Fly, and for the first 4 or 5 rides it felt like sitting on a piece of wood, now love it for everything from short blasts to all day epics on both the hardtail and fullsusser. Not a weight weanie but an extra bonus is it only weighs around 185g!

I ride with more confidence when tubeless, not so tippy toey in the rocky stuff, just blast through. Also more grip on techy climbs which is nice. All in all I ride faster with less dabs and less punctures which over rides all the negatives. 😀

It’s always nice to make your bike lighter, just make sure the parts are suitable for the type of riding you do.Just got a ti spring for my ccdb and lost 141g. Orange 5 by the way.

Love my 22×36 gear, also love riding big mountains and after 6hrs riding this ratio gets used a lot. On super steep climbs I would be quicker walking but I’m on a bike ride not a walk.

The biggest problem with test riding a 5 is, it’s so good you’ll not want anything else. 🙂

2.35 single ply Swampthings, super tacky front max pro rear is my winter default tyre combo. Maybe not the fastest rolling but I ride faster as I’ve more grip and more importantly more confidence.

I bought an I Fly and hated it for about a month, it was far too hard. Slowly began to find that even on long rides I wasn’t getting a sore arse. Now anything soft kills me,even got a railed one on the Blue Pig.
