Any update on these? I’m after a light but cheap trail wheelset that won’t do thousands of miles. I assume I could put some non-tubeless specialized tyres on and a bit of fluid just pump them up?

    Extremely twitchy

Talk is that the other two models are pike equipped with e13 wheels….

Personally if I got the soul I wouldn’t bother SS’ing it or getting rigid forks etc i’d just save the money from condensing and replace worn out parts as and when you need them and benefit from riding a great bike all year round

If the business is successful and has room to grow keep it going while you advertise it. If the business is providing a reasonable wage, in the cycle industry someone is going to take it over and if it can grow even better. In fact if I could raise the capital i’m sure I’d love it.

I’d say if the Mods were OK with it i’m sure you’d get a taker on here

    My 2p’s worth..

I went two years ago on a old Norco A-line DH bike I bought for the trip and had an absolute blast doing the main runs around Morzine, Les Gets etc. The 200mm travel is nice and I often think its the way forward out there but the thing that annoyed me out there was I spent half the day pushing a heavy unpedalable bike in sorching heat and rolling down cheeky paths that would be brilliant on another bike. This year I can only have one bike so i’ll be doing everything I did before on my 160mm Mojo. I’m seriously looking forward to finding some singletrack this year without having to end up in some valley without a lift and having to push my way out. I’m sure for the speed I ride and the small gaps and drops I do i’ll be fine. As for the braking bumps they’re much better off the ‘racing line’ so just try to pick your line better

IMO 1×10 is the way forward however if you wanted a front mech I’m sure a e-type would work. Not sure about press fit though

Any excuse to roll this out

Another DSP Dueler on there too, It’s nice to finally have a future proof bike that I can get tuned exactly how I want it without finding out it’s flawed in some way.

My Specialized Rockhopper was stolen on 12th November last year from Newport south wales, it has some pretty distinctive marks so i’d know it was mine! If anyone spots it let me know. Apologies for the rubbish photo, I never actually got to ride it.

    Where?

I highly doubt they’ll give you adaptors for the brakes anyway so i’d get the cheaper package and just sell the new rotors on and buy the ones you need as and when. Simpler that way and you could easily buy two new rotors for less than the £50 difference

In it’s most basic form top swing refers to where the clamp is in relation to the cage of the front mech if I remember correctly. Don’t take my word for it but I think the seat tube is regular and straight to the BB so it wouldn’t matter either way as there is nothing to obstruct the mech? As for the groupsets i’m not sure what the difference is, I think the cheaper one is a one off deal where as the more expensive one allows you to chose cassette range. Once again don’t take my word for it but i’d be good if someone could correct/agree with all that.

I’ve got a reverb and can’t imagine riding without one now. When it’s there you use it constantly to get the seat exactly where you want it

Sounds like you’ve got the upgrading down to a tee! The BB is a different style and will require a new tool if you’re doing it yourself however it’ll fit fine, They come with 3 little plastic spacers to enable it to fit 68 or 73mm bbs. Your current brakes are Avid but i’d just bolt the new brakes to the old adaptors and rotors as you dont get new ones with that groupset it’ll work fine unless anything is wornout.

EDIT: If you do get the groupset I’d get it from Merlin, A fair bit cheaper, in the UK not China and you get rotors : http://www.merlincycles.com/shimano-slx-m670-triple-groupset-sale-65626.html

That will all fit fine however I’d question why your doing it. SLX is a great groupset, I use it on my Ibis but I think you’d see a much bigger performance hit for that money on frame and fork. Just a suggestion on my behalf don’t take it too heart but yes that groupset would fit fine and could be moved onto a new bike down the line.

I’ll be going on Saturday and Sunday. Yeah, it’ll be muddy but there is a jet wash and I’ll have a shower after.

    Get out on your bike!

^ That and a spare mech hanger while your at it and id say your done. They started off pretty rare but are building a half decent name for themselves now, and I saw plenty out in the Alps in 2012. Yeah, your buying direct but i’d go as far as to say, bar any frame issues i’d use the cash you’ve saved to buy your way out of any issues such as brakes needing bleeding.

If i’m at home, Swinnerton Cycles Cannock chase and Twowheelsonly, Tamworth have been helpful or more than one occasion. I’ve yet to find anywhere at down here in Newport/Cardiff but Done Skene looks promising.

Bike Chain Ricci, Redruth is my Cornish sortofLBS. Superb staff, Mechanics can fix anything, good stock and occasionally Sam’s kind

I think we should just use the forum and rather than putting FS or WTD put something like ‘postage and pint clearout’. Then everything is £3 plus either £3 or £5 for postage dependant on price. I think this would be a lot easier than FB.
If I get chance I’ll have a rummage later and try aThread!

I’ve seen a big group of lads doing their own uplift alongside the flyup uplift at FOD. Transporter and one of those cheap uplift trailers off t’interweb and I’d say they were getting more lifts in too.

Newport probably THE worst of the main Welsh towns/cities. What a dump.

Not sure why this is banded around a lot. It’s got a small shopping area, nice river, a lot of development and is close to Cardiff and plenty of local riding. Sure it’s not perfect but a lot of people told me this and it put a downer on my initial uni experience but it’s not all that bad. Not trolling just interested as to why this is the concensus

Joking aside I wouldn’t reccomend Newport (yet) as a Lichfield’er living here for uni. It gets a bad name but it’s not a bad place and theres a lot of investment going on here to make south wales a much nicer place. Cardiff would be my choice

Why has no-one mentioned Newport, how stange…

My vote would be Cardiff, really nice place which is easy to reach and a nice size too with loads of good riding and plenty to do there. If you wanted somewhere slower and more relaxed Truro. Not a huge amount of life there like Birmingham or Manc but beaches, nice food and plenty of countryside.

What forks do you have on there now? I’d consider how much advantage you’ll get from new suspension eg lighter weight or air sprung

Did anyone get a black 18″ they want to sell? PM me if you’ve got one

If you want a BFE sell the frame and use your stuff on a BFE it would work well, plus pitch frames sell well. If you want a totally new build split it, it’s all good stuff and will get you a lot more

Christ there are some bitter people on here..

The car looks ace, I saw a white one out on the road last week and they stand out a lot more than you’d think.

I’ve got a mojo HD with both chips and I’d say it’s definitely worth getting. My rp23 in 140 mode is such a good shock it’s all I need for the UK bar uplift days however having two shocks allows you to get two very differently set shocks. I’ve got a DSP dueler in 160 which I’ll be riding in the alps this year which is set up a little softer for DH and enduro use. It is worth pointing out that the bike climbs pretty much exactly the same in 160 mode and I did 4 laps of BPW with the coil.

Hope that made sense, if you want to know anything else let me know

Some realy really useul words so far, thanks again. I’ve bought a comprehensive yet basic book to keep me reading and I won’t be using watermarks until I can create a more subtle one. I’ll take the critques on board and hopeully have a new set ready over the next days for stage two. Keep the comments coming please!

Some great points there thanks, I’ll look at leveling the photos now. I should have pointed out that i’ve taken the camera out twice so far and don’t have a tripod which I think might cure the level.
