Singles feel far more nimble generally and move around easier but I run duals as I prefer the stiffness off drops and I think I can push harder through rough stuff.

My best was some smirnoff ice that went out of date in oct 09. Drank it 3 weeks ago…

    That’s disgusting. You drank Smirnoff?

I only joined 4ish years ago so I didn’t know any of the “Big hitters” but I did see a few threads where banter went too far and the comments become cutting and seemed genuinely hateful so maybe the ban was a good thing – At the end of the day they’re probably all here under new names anyway.
As for Moderation and boring I think they’ve got it spot on. I don’t personally get offended easily but the cleaner the site can be the better IMO. This place is extremely helpful and I have yet to start a post needing help and not get a genuninely helpful response. Maybe some humour has been lost but there are still enough witty, clever comments around to end up laughing at your phone in public.

Thank you so much for this post I now feel educated. Where’s my wallet? Are E thirteen TRS good enough for my stumpy or do I need to go carbon because I have a XTR rear mech?

I really fancy a trip up there but i’m concerned the track might be too steep for my skill level. I have ridden portes du soleil, Cwmcarn and Gawton how does this place compare, it looks on a different level.

Tell me about it – He did mention a certain girl in the cafe but I havent been in the cafe so I wouldn’t know.

Funny that, i’ve just got off the phone to my brother who has just got back from Cardinham too. You must have seen him!
It’s a great place, I didn’t expect much but I love it, it’s flowy and great fun considering the amount of climbing – Similar to my local Follow the dog really.

So how do these compare to say the Spesh Henge I am using now? Is it a racer saddle or better suited to a DH bike?

What type of tracks will you be riding? Natural singletrack or the mainstream Pleney and Les Gets?

John, what style of riding is that loop, my brother lives about 5 miles from there. Is it similar to cardinham with jumps and drops or out-and-out XC.

A few people have suggested the long climb before hells teeth is not worth it but personally I really enjoyed the section. If you’re not in a such do it and see for yourself

Yeah, ridden it a few times and love it. Great fun and much better than anything down that way currently. Plenty of scope for additions too.

    Oh.My.God

Anyone want a mint Stumpy and a 1 ride old Glory? I need one of those and life will not be the same until I buy one.

Sorry to hear that, I’m pretty local so will keep an eye out. I’d post a wanted ad up on places like gumtree or a orange or similar and see if anyone takes the bait.

I’m not even looking at high end gear, I’m a mountain biker at heart and have only plunged into the roadie world because I got the bike cheap and I’d like to improve fitness. I’ll look at DHB stuff now.

Can anyone reccomend me a nice jersey, shorts and helmet? Don’t want to spend too much

Cheers for the replies – I’m looking forward to riding from the door mainly. I have a few mates who ride road so we’re going to start group riding pretty soon. The two week wait to pick the bike up and a heavy work load are going to build the excitment

If I had £1400 my money would be here. Infact I dont have £1400 and my money is very nearly there. I love my stumpy despite its inferior shock, lack of taper and maxle let alone carbon. That bike would be my dream bike. My Stumpy is ali and circa 27 with reverb and 2×10 so that would be around 25 with the right build.

Some bikes feel naturally light to ride regardless of travel. My 140mm stumpy feels a world apart from the pitch I had before with the same travel. It could be worth finding a bike that rides ‘lighter’

Protection thread doing it for you Shermer?

My use of criminal was clearly a sarcastic overstatement. I’m not claiming to be the trail police i’d just rather see kids wearing better suited protection for the sport they’re doing.

Just an observation mate, it’s hardly like the kids were old enough to make their own decisions on what protection to wear or the risks of riding on red runs

    Rosss

Crikey I was refering to the lack of protection on young inexperienced kids riding what was a very loose red run with a few challenging features.

Managed to pass 3 families on Takero all with young kids and no helmets just shorts and t shirts – Criminal.

Went straight over to Milford side and had a good ride, still insanely busy though

Own up who was it. You were riding a Cotic Rocket so you must be here somewhere.

Marc’s move was a difficult one. Yes I can see he left the door open but Marc was way too far back to make the move. Anyone could have done what he did and let the brakes off and bumped Lorenzo wide. It would have been fair if he got past without pushing Lorenzo wide and stopping him cutting back on the inside.

The price is so high it actually makes the bike ugly IMO. I’d rather keep my stumpy and invest the £4k in cake. I will however be popping in on sunday to have a look.

I was also riding up the chase today. Fortunately for me I had 20 gears and 140mm of travel.

Used to happen all the time on my stumpy when I had it new. It hasn’t happened since I changed the seat clamp to a hope. I don’t think the standard spec one was up to much.

The last bit is ringing alarm bells to me. I’ll pass thanks

That site surely has to be a scam. A brand new Trek remedy 7 for £950 and £35 shipping? What sort of import tax would you pay.

Really pleased with my stumpjumper. Considering you state 140mm upwards i’d make sure you get one without the brain. I’ve been using mine with the brain for bigger dh stuff and the brain is too much of a XC shock to cope with bigger hits. Have also ridden friends remedy and zesty and both are excellent bikes.
