I had a giant glory but as many people say they’re only good at one thing. I am no racer but I’m no mincer either and I’m actually faster time wise on my 160 bike. For £1000 you’d build a really nice pitch – a sweet all round bike IMO

67 degrees with the 160 fork. The frame is warrantied for 180 forks too so its steeper in 160. Shame really because the bike feels really balanced at 160. I’m taking it to Cwmcarn or BP wales in the next month but I think there will be an angleset in soon to sort the old hat geo

I’m not too worried about nightlife, I’ll head to cardiff for that. I’m not taking my bike in the first few weeks as I don’t know who i’ll be around but if I can get it in my flat it’ll be there after a few weeks. I’m doing business and accounting.

I chose Newport because, head over heart, the course looked by far the best for what I want to do with the grades I could achieve but i’m starting to think I should have gone to a worse course in a better area. I’m based on Usk way for the first year. I might look to moving to Cardiff if the commute isn’t too far in the second year. How long would it take to ride from cardiff to Newport, or by train or car?

    Right so i’ve got:

    RQ black chilli 2.2
    Purgatory 2.3
    HD 2.35

I’ve decided to buy a set of dual plys for the alps so they’re just for trail centres and uk DH days

Pretty much sold on the Rubber queens, How big do they come up in 2.2?

HD compund would be pacestar or trailstar. Would a HD front and nobby nic back be a good set up?

I’m using 2.2 purgatorys now but they come up pretty small, What front would be a good match for the purgatory rear?

My brother lives in Porthtowan and we rode Porthtowan to Crantock a few weeks back. Pick a duller day and be polite and we had no issues with walkers at all. The section of coastline is stunning and there is some great singletrack and techy sections. After Perranporth the riding gets a bit sand duney for a mile or two then you have another few miles around Crantock before you get to Newquay and need to head back anyway so i’d call it a day at Perran. We havent ridden south down the coast from Porthtowan yet but it’s all pretty steep up and down with lots of steps.

Cardinham is always a good call. Nice, fun fast loop – Only about 7.5 miles all in so good for 2 or 3 laps.

Another option you have is riding out of the back of Porthtowan and aim for Poldice quarry. There are loads of DH runs there you’d be fine doing on a trail bike, just check the runs out first as there are some pretty bigs gaps on some runs. There’s plenty of nice singletrack around there too.

Oh, and don’t go out with Nicolaisam it’ll only end in injury

I did enjoy it today which is progress for me as i’m MTB through and through but I’d rather enjoy it whilst being shattered knowing i’m at a competitive pace and i’ll be faster on the MTB

I considered the Arch EX but I doubt its up to the beating they’ll get from the ‘Bike park’ runs in the alps. I think i’ll spec the arch on the hardtail for lighter use down the line.

Don’t know if it’s been suggested because I couldn’t be bothered to read know it alls suggesting a focus and a caravan but what about a scirocco R or the new Golf R which is close to release?

I’m looking at the Enduro too. I have a Stumpjumper now and really wanted an evo but I can’t get a coil shock for the Alps so its a no go. Shame they ruin a class leading bike with a shock system designed to line their pockets

If you loved the frame as much as you say you did either stump up for the ali frame or look 2nd hand and swap the gear across. I’m sure someone would happily swap lyrics for revs so that’d cost nothing.

Other options, I love my Stumpy. Long, low, Slack-ish and a short back end but no frame option for cheap.

Had a sit on a Mega TR in a shop the other week and really liked the bike. It felt light low and slacker than the Stumpy. Infact I liked it so much i’m seriously considering the AM.

I’m not racing DH ATM, If I do in the future I might look at getting a 200mm machine again. I’ve got a Giant Glory now and a Specialized Stumpjumper elite not evo. I was looking at the Stumpy evo but I think the Enduro Carbon would be slightly better for Bike parks and DH

Thanks for the info. I’m trying to find a day to get up Llandegla and try one but I really fancied 160 up front for the Alps etc. Yeti’s website suggests it’s fine but I can’t find a demo with 160 on?

If you’ve ordered the frame i’d look on Wiggle now to see if they’ve got any Hope hoop wheels (flows) left on offer. Bargain wheels there
