“PS it wasn’t tricky dicky it was Kennedy at the time of the missile crisis”

I was not referring to Nixon at the time of the missile crisis.
Castro met Nixon (who was US vice Pres at time?) some time after the revolution, he was the one who made life difficult for Castro and Cuba by talking crap back at Washington, this sent Castro to the open arms of the USSR. Apparently Castro had tried to explain to the US what he was doing and why plus wanting to have assure the larger neighbour, Nixon put a stop to that. Or course this paraphrases history but the general just it right.

The news coverage is what I recall about the missile crisis, all WW3 at any minute. As a youngster it scared me with all the talk nuc’s and missiles.

The thing that has proven Cuba as a great country is how they managed after Russian stopped supporting them, particularly in food production. It’s a model for what could be done here.

Castro was still a git to many people though.

OK my bad, but all in all agree with the rest of what you’re saying.

I don’t see any alternative that would have functioned given the most aggressive and corrupt neighbour a country could have, if there had been ‘free’ elections they would have been bought and paid for in the same way US ‘democracy functions to the call of big business and corporate capitalism now.

Even to this day and I don’t want to stray into the realms of anti semitism but witness the Gaza affair and the pursuit of oil and natural gas, which is the normal reason for US incursions and Cuba is rich in oil, the sort better for road building, but oil just the same.

I’ve been there a few times now and with an open mind and believe all in all Castro was a good thing. Someone has to have an alternate to Capitolist Imperialism

You need to go there, given they’ve had an embargo for that many years, they’ve not done badly at all, I have a Che Guevara poster on my office wall and if you visited their Museum and see all the shit things the yanks did to them, hell he is a hero, all Politicians are corrupt and what we have here is no better, they have Castro we have a frigging Monarchy, what’s the difference?

PS it wasn’t tricky dicky it was Kennedy at the time of the missile crisis but that must have been as bad for them as it was us. Given they’d just repulsed a full invasion attempt by the yanks, something we were lead to believe was just a small CIA incursion at the time, yet when you see the illustrations there were battle ships, air support and everything, the yanks were useless as normal when they have no allies, and were repulsed.

Good luck to him, not going to read or comment on any of the 8 pages of STW handwringing I just hope there were some who were not bothered, or concerned about what to do if he poo’d himself in the playboy mansion.

Ha knowing my luck the day I agreed I’d get flashed and there’d be film in the camera.

So hypothetically yes but I’d need at least a grand, don’t get out of bed for anything less.

Then I’d need the necessary false ID, passport etc to avoid STW lynch mob, me being such a reckless criminal and encouraging others to be so..

… make sure I’m doing everything right for the tax man.

There, right there recipe for failure, don’t start a business with them in mind they’ll nail you soon enough, the fundamental thing with a business is income stream and getting paid, then not paying half of it to everyone else.
Tax man, your job is to give them nothing, they’ll take enough by force as it is, don’t make it easy for them.

Got to go there tomorrow, hate the place, crowded, busy and it’s worse now they don’t speak English, I shall go have my meeting, lunch and hope to get back in time to be on the water after work. It does at least only take 37 mins on that hi speed train, the best thing to come out of Lunnon.

Tricky one, I suppose it depends on how much he’s spent over the years in store, if he’s just some walk in chancer then that’s the right call – do one, be on your way. But if he’s a regular hell we do it on the trails often enough helping out muppets who are slowing up the ride, we don’t charge them.

We’ve even helped change kite bladders and they take a lot more frigging about with but then the bladders are a lot more expensive than six quid.

I watch it every time it’s on, classic movie, got to the 2nd murder and the bread knife made me turn over, “you’ve watched that thing thousands of times’ so it’s recorded she’ll knaff off up to bed in a mo and I’ll flick back.

I drove the chevy version of the Isuzu for a few years, very agricultural drive, i chopped it in for the Amarok, very disappointing, then came back home to my T5, bought a panel van and had it kombified. 5-600 miles on a just under 100 quid tank, room for all the toys and they’re locked up.
The drive quality is also better if you have to do any miles, much as I love them, pick ups aint as practical as vans.

It’s not just Marvel, have you seen the CoE?

Exactly, not that the CofE has the remotest relevance these days, they’re done, long since.

I don’t think the drugs Industry theory has any legs, some of our local security ‘experts’ were thinking more likely CIA black Ops to put pressure on Putin, they are almost certainly active over there.

There have been lots of female comic icons,(Viz’s Fat Slags for starters) and if they needed another there are enough female Goddesses they could have launched for wimmen I just think it sacrilege gender switching Thor not to mention blasphemy if you happen to believe in the ‘old Gods’.

Then again all these wimmen now taking up the cloth, there’s a Generation not going to be happy about that either.

So it’s clearly a provocative action taken precisely because it will cause controversy, I hope it back fires, sorry Thor can’t be a woman, it’s just not right.

Me to, I’m a tea man, 90 percent of my fluid intake is Tea, Beer being the other I can’t stand the taste of water either.

But Coffee Ice cream ranks second only to liquorice as my sweet thing addictions, can’t get enough of either of them.

Then should we discuss coffee and walnut cake? hmm no better not.

    Bullshit!

Oh I’m sorry, you were there then?

Clearly something I missed you know about, shall I ring 50 cent and tell him it’s fine he can come back to Munich now? (by the way Munich and say Hamburg or Cologne are very very different places)

Or are you saying if he turned up at a Gym over here someone would say the same thing?

    rossatease
    Free Member

Well here’s a counterpoint tale, another pal of mine was in the security business, acting as bodyguard for Pop stars on tour, in this instance 50 cent, doing a Euro tour, I forget when it was, but not that long ago, anyway they’re in Munich and 50 cent wanted to go to a Gym, so my pal checks around finds a Gym explains it’s for an American Rock/Rap star and they go ‘sure, no problem.’

So they all turn up wander into the Gym and everyone in the Gym’s face falls, my pal is perplexed and talks to the owner, what’s the problem? Keine Swartz!

He didn’t know where to turn, but the guys go, ‘don’t worry about it dude’ and they all left.

That’s the difference between them and us, they are still very very racist, that wouldn’t happen here.

    Very different attitude to law and order;

In Germany, you can assume something is illegal unless it’s specified not to be.
In the UK, the opposite applies.

No kids getting drunk and rowdy in town centres at night?
    That’ll be the curfew then.

I’ll tell you a tale, the brother of a pal of mine, playing in a band, did a gig in Germany, didn’t have the money for the tube, so vaulted the barrier and legged it. Unluckily for him the police were nearby, they shot him in the leg to bring him down, it was a saturday, by monday he was in and out of hospital patched up, in court, fined and duly despatched on his way, at the bottom of the fine there were a couple of small extra items charged at only a few pfennigs (it was before the Euro) what’s that he asked, it’s for the bullets they shot you with came the reply.

Mostly we’re pretty much the same, well the Anglo Saxon bits of us. On an Individual level they live love laugh just like us, all this petty Royalist or politico induced nationalist angst was nothing to do with us, one reason it’s a shame the European Experiment is failing for us, but that’s down to our own neo liberal ruling class screwing things for us.

It’s a wonderful country, I saw a side of it yesterday I’d not seen before, travelling to the island of Fehmarn, it was sunny 24 degrees stayed light til gone 10., beach tourists everywhere wit a bit of a Mediterranean feel but with beer gardens.
I normally do Southern Gemany which is also nice, Gods own country, lakes and Alps, a well ordered society, they don’t take any crap, excellent Public Transport, trains actually run on time, roads improving, what’s not to like.

    I’ll be cheering them on.

Yes I guess we will be as well, one of the prospective son in laws is a Bavarian (It’s another country except in instances like this).

I’ll be told to refrain from humming my usual refrain ‘Two world wars and a world cup too – do dah’ ‘It’s not funny any more dad, nobody can remember 1966.’

‘And they went back to work the next day,’ will come the retort.

I reckon you’ve got a strong case for a compensation claim here.. not only for the distressing episode with the dog but also for the trauma that you must have suffered as a result of this thread

I’ve been wondering about compensation claims after all the stress I get reading the frequent drivel on this forum, I’m quite often traumatised..

However back to the subject at hand in which I can see both sides and I think my comment would be dependant upon the tone of Mrs Aracer if it were my pup and I’d unfortunately caused the incident as has happened on the odd occasion, normally I would be fully embarrassed and try to prevent such an incident occurring and were it to happen I’d be instantly apologetic.

But there are times when apologies are never enough and ‘they’ (probably due to irrational fear or annoyance at their own stupidity or for whatever reason) enter effing and blinding rant mode, at which point it becomes difficult not to counter in similar vein, so without being there a tricky one to pass judgement on.

Humans are humans wether they own dogs or not they don’t always get on, particularly if voices are already raised, dogs are dogs and don’t pay much attention to shouty people anyway unless they know them and puppies know nothing yet other than it smells different and might be nice to eat.

I’m with the mountain and molehill illustration personally.

We’ve got two, got the second to try and calm the first/sort out separation anxiety when we’re out, which it does to a small degree, we don’t get as much chewed up house damage.

However having to ride them both on a lead is a handful, together they’re very powerful and delight in going either side of a tree leaving me and the bike headed straight at it.

I wouldn’t be without either of them, even though everyone hates the big one because he is such a git. #neverbuyadoberman
