Thinking of going the other way.Both my 29ers are rigid-one ss & the other alfine.Ride North/Mid wales and peak district and don't have an issue with no boing but I've started doing a few marathons and 100k+ is bloody hard work on the hands/thumbs!

My project 2s were more forgiving over bigger stuff but my on one carbons damp out the high frequency hand numbing stuff much better.Going to relent and put some proper boing on for the 100k plus stuff.Boooo

Saintly-yeah that was me.Got carried away and stayed out for 3 laps before I went bang,well more pfffffttttt really.Like Sam says not much respite riding solo.Commited every schoolboy error in the book-not drinking enough-not eating enough-pinning all the downhill bits.Will have to get my sh1t together for the kielder 100!

After riding the course on friday I thought passing was going to be a right mare but everyone was very patient when wanting to pass and generous when passing them.A lesson to learnt for everyone there (especially the numpties in certain north east wales trail centres).

1st race for 15 years,solo and ss probably was'nt the brightest idea I've ever had.Nor was doing the black on friday evening.Nor was going off like my arse was on fire for the first 3 laps and blowing up spectacularly.Felt much better for having a kip and managed to crawl round for another 4.Was having WAY too much fun pinning all the singletrack.Will know better for next time (just not the ss thing-I'll never learn).

The only time my knee does’nt hurt is when I ride my ss.Got **** all cartledge left in my left knee (wakeboarding) and if I sit and spin on a geared bike it feels like its gonna explode.It is VERY important you stretch and warm up properly tho,have developed a cyst on the tendon and it hurts like hell.

Trail centres have to cater for the “average” biker as they represent the largest market.As mountain biking has got more popular the skill set of the “average” biker has naturally gone down.If you were an “average” biker 10 years ago (as long as you still ride the same) you’d be regarded as an expert now!!

Its better to recognise when you’re not “feeling it” and leave riding alone.Occasionally you’ll start out feeling crap and get into it but usually it just gets worse.Have a day off,you’re statistically unlikely to die if you miss a ride every now or again (unless your life is so empty and worthless that the only justification for living is riding push bikes in which case please carry on).

Nah once they’ve been converted they will run forever-like wot marazochis are sposed to.Basically you drill one hole in the damper to release the pressure.Trap the ifp at the bottom by centre punching a dent just above it.Drill hole just above it and at the top of the damper.Fill with oil and hey presto reliable open bath damping.I can probably dig out the pdf instructions from work if you want.

Blown damper cartridge.They are sealed pressurised rst units and the go pop a lot.You can convert them to open bath quite easily by drilling a couple of holes in them (I had to do 30 pairs).Windwave will supply destructions.

First part of Marin to Cyffty Tube Hang a right to Llyn Geirionydd ,over to Llyn Crefnant (feel sick),down to Trefriw ,over Cefn Cyfarwydd (throw up), along Llyn Cowlyd to Capel Curig ,right at Pont Cyfyng to Dolwyddelan (blow up),left onto Sarn Helen,across miners bridge,hook right back onto the Marin and collapse at the car 5 1/2 hours later.Well thats what I did today anyway.Hav’nt worked out how far yet,was making it up as I went along.Can’t feel my legs anymore.

I fill mine about 2/3rds-ish full and then fold over the top.Its much better with a hydra pak (new dakine) bladders with the roll top instead of big screw top.With the 2.5 the bladder goes horizontally (tho its not quite wide enough) but with the 3.0 it goes vertically.
