    Oh, you mean alcohol?

    It’s tough 😬

    So, how’s everyone doing?

I sprained my finger doing a rectal exam on a prosthetic bottom this morning. I’ve had better starts to my day 😐

    Righty Hoe!

I’m very pleased there’s a few giving it a go with me. I’ll update the thread as and when I get itchy. I plan to buy a crate of the Erdinger blue stuff tomorrow (I’m pretending that it’s merely the habit of having something cool and bubbly in my hand that’s the issue, rather than the lovely alcohol).

So, last dregs of a bottle of red tonight, a couple of beers that’ll otherwise “go off” if I don’t drink them and then tomorrow it begins..

Edit: my attempt at “self control” – hide the booze in the garage 🤔

    Edit: I can’t do pictures

^^ for me, it’s not about alcohol stopping me doing anything (including looking after two small kids) it’s the fact I feel I need it in order to relax. I don’t drink a huge amount but when I’m tired and stressed I find myself reaching for midweek G&T as well as the usual weekend alcohol ..

I’ll give it a go apart from one evening as my birthday is in October. Does that count?

Pretty sure that’s allowed – Macmillan say (if you’re doing it and getting sponsored) you’re allowed one “golden ticket” as long as you donate £15. Sounds reasonable to me 🙂

Cool. I’m glad there’s a few others joining me. I freely admit that I’m pathetic and have only ever managed a few weeks before.

All my booze lovely booze has been moved to the spider infested garage (apart from one beer and a tiny bit of red wine that I consider will my last hurrah tonight)

    Ah, thanks.

I should probably use google rather than STW.. 🤔

    #hijack#

I’ve got a Bialetti but I struggle to figure out how to make nice “long” coffees rather than espresso.

If I brew it and top it with hot water it tastes awful yet tastes really nice with hot milk (I get through a lot
    Of milk)

    Any ideas? Ta

are you more I interested in computing than medicine / healthcare then?

I did the opposite – 12 yrs working in IT for a global mega Corp and now back at uni..

Yeah that’s what I was thinking – even to my untrained eye it didn’t seem an. Good idea

So how did others get on with this?

Sounds an awful lot like their agent was pulling a fast one.

After 2 visits (and my asking repeatedly about income) and chasing for 3 months I’ve today been informed we don’t qualify at all as our income is above the threshold that didn’t exist (according to agent).

I don’t know but I suspect those who’s income wasn’t assessed had that particular form misplaced …

    Grrrr

So, the old fan did indeed have a run on facility but there appears to be no switch at all.

Most of these fans instructions say “The installation must have an omnipolar switch with a contact separation of at least 3mm. The circuit must be protected by either a 3 Amp fuse.“

So.. can I replace like for like safely or does need an isolating switch / fuse?

Sorry for all the questions ..

    RopeyReignRider

Thanks martinhutch – the ducting might have to stay unfortunately as it’s all squashed into an impossibly tight space right where the roof meets the bathroom ceiling.

Re regs – do you still need an isolator switch if the fan isn’t actually in the bathroom as mine is (ie in loft)

(More questions – wondering if the guy who re did our loft insulation killed fan by covering it? I’m guessing it’d get quite warm snuggled under 10” of rock wool stuff?!)

(Despite appearances I’m not a complete electrical numpty but like to check my understanding!)

(Oh and we don’t have a loft light, annoyingly)

    RopeyReignRider

So… if I get a replacement is it likely to have the same electrical connections and be a like for like swap?

Could someone explain in (simple terms) how it’s likely this is fed from the ceiling rose? There’s three cores to the fan unit – I assume one is connected to light to trigger the fan and the other is the live/neutral for the fan supply?

    RopeyReignRider
    Free Member

    ^^ hmm odd.

Well electrics have been off and on quite a bit whilst I’ve tinkered and it’s made no difference. All connections seem fine and lots of lovely alternating currants arriving at the fan.

I think I need a new fan … not expensive but a complete faff to fit unless I just use the existing vent/ piping

(No reset or fuse on fan itself – just timer electronics. Does have voltage on terminals so can only assume the electronics have failed or the motor itself (can’t see it being viable trying to source a motor)

(I’ve checked ceiling rose and nothing was loose, likewise the pull cord switch)

    RopeyReignRider

Hmm, it was done Dec 2013 if that’s relevant – no switch anywhere for it. I just had a brief crawl about up there and wires appear to disappear straight into bathroom lights Rose thing

    RopeyReignRider

It is a pull cord yep. Tbh I’m not entirely sure where it’s wired into as the wickes cowboys Installers did it very quickly

Johndoh – it’s triggered by the light switch but then stays on for ten mins after the light’s turned off (approx)

There really is no work out in the sticks unless you want to work on the fields or in a potato factory.

My mum used to employ a girl who was paranoid about “them Russians working in the fields”

(I think she meant the exceptionally hard working Eastern European’s who’d come for the summer work)

Strange place really, I almost miss it.

Oh and my parents lived there 32 years and were still considered “outsiders” when they left as they had the gaul to be born in the south east.

I grew up 7 miles from Wisbech, never did me any harm… I’ve been fine since my brother stopped cheating my cousin with my wife or “sister” as you metropolitan types call it.

Downham market is a LOT nicer and on the train line direct to Cambridge (and London). (Also some more interesting countryside , a few trees etc our that way). Also Ely is nice or even March actually.

It is without doubt the worst place on the planet for mountain biking mind (the fens I mean)

I’m now attempting to finish the first year of a graduate medicine degree at the age of 38. Only 2.5 yrs to go ..

Catapult a mole onto the roof, then tie a carrot, or whatever moles like to eat at the bottom of the pipe. Sit back and wait.

    REALLY HELPFUL THANKS

(Have you tried catching a mole in this weather?!)

take off the downpipe and have a look.

Unfortunately there’s the weird S bend in the pipe at the top.

The drain unblocker could work but might be a bit short? I tried the hose pipe several times but it wouldn’t get round the s bend bit..

Thanks – would you expect the gutter clearing person to suck soil from the downpipe too or literally just clear the gutter?

I nearly bought one just before Xmas. It looked great and drove well. This was my latest update on the thread at the time:

“soo.. car is back from garage. Mechanically it’s in great condition for it’s age.

but .. there are a few electrical issues such as spannered door opening assembly, washer motor dead, one air con fan dead.

codes 00657, 00156, 00420, 02115 for anyone excited by it?!

Have mentioned all the above to the dealer so will see what they come back with..”

Turned out the door opening assembly alone would have been £1k to fix as required servos and the like. Check the doors (and fault codes if you can!)

Our candy (cheap and cheerful) ate itself after 4 years of family duties.

Our washing machine engineer said “buy whatever has the longest warranty” and said he didn’t particularly rate the posh brands over others.

We bought a middle of the road Samsung for £370 with a 5 yr warranty.

It plays a tune to let you know it’s finished.

    Which is nice.

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor (“mature” med student). Do your own research etc etc but I would go and see someone who knows.

There are for example nerve lesion type things like this that might be worth exploring:
