Not sure if it's been posted before (can't be bothered to read whole thread) but legally speaking the hours in which you should be able to "peacefully enjoy" your property i.e. not be disturbed are 11pm to 7am.

Generally speaking the council won't get involved unless the disturbance is within these times.

I'm currently months into a battle with students next door – getting woken up at 4/5am every saturday and wednesday morning for the last 4 months… takes it's toll after a while..

    ah OK, cool. cheers.

I need to find a map I guess and have a rough idea. tbh without knowing where the buses (if any) stop, it could be tricky..

Can anyone suggest any routes across the park at all? It's mahoosive isn't it?

    cheers chaps

Right, I just need to plan a walk that isn't too far.. the Mrs isn't really that keen on any distance!

I know this "walk" sounds a bit abstract but there's a reason for wanting to get her out there see.. …

    Chris_Cov_Cycles – what year forks are those 36 TALAS's ??

Interesting all this coil/air talk. Personally I notice the difference between the two much more on a rear shock than on forks.

In fact I prefer a coil rear end and air up front.. am I odd (or just inbetween spring weights!)??

Blmey, surely that Intense is secondhand?!

Forks alone cost near on £800, wheels about £300.. blimey blimey

ok cool, I think the SL uses a different weave of carbon or something?

Wondering how durable the carbon dropouts are on the SL, for a clumsy oaf like myself!

cool… I'd be sticking 26 floats on one if I ever do take the plunge.

How balanced does it feel with a fork weighing nearly as much as the frame?!

I take it the SL isn't designed for 160mm forks, or is it?!

mrmojo – cheers for info. Interesting stuff! I just need to get a ride on one now!

I love my foes but the frame weighs about 8lbs even with the Ti coil fitted.. tis rather heavy!

…hence mojo appeals. Can you fit 160mm forks on the standard mojo?

    RopeyReignRider

Exactly the same here Jon – I really like the look of the HD too but am a clumsy rider at best and when I come off it is always usually onto pointy rocks :-(

    RopeyReignRider

Interesting stuff.. I guess my main worry is that as tough as carbon is, with an alloy frame a dent is fairly obvious.

Is a similar sized impact as obvious on a carbon frame? How would i know when to get it professionally checked out?!

    #sorry for thread hijack btw!

Not wishing to open a Can O' worms here but are there any Mojo owners who ride where there's loads of sharp, pointy rocks?

I really like the idea of the mojo but am totally paranoid about dropping down The Beast or somesuch in the Peaks..

Moonglu – thanks for the email.

I'm very interested in those wheels but am just trying to sort out my finances and see if I can get the cash together any time soon. I'll let you know asap. thanks

I have seen FXR's on mtbr with Fox 32's and it doesn't look quite right really!

tinsy – interesting that you like the look of my bike tbh – most people just call them Fugly!

(btw the pic above is not of my actual bike although it's the same year / model – you can probably tell from the dusty trails in the pic!)

re the Fox 36 Vans that I had – unfortunately they just run a single spring in the left leg so have no way of tweaking.

I just about got away with the medium spring and full pre-load, for most circumstances how ever the fork had a habit of pitching me over the bars on slow speed steep stuff (nearly got me on the Slab at Dalbeattie, that would have hurt!)

Lyrics are quite heavy though…and I can't afford the latest super duper air ones..

I think I'm going to have to get saving for the 36 float.. tis just rather tempting to save a pound in weight and go for fox 32 150mm or revs (bike weighs about 33.5lb )

    hmmmm

cool, does the standard model come with disc-hubs and mounts on frame/fork?

(I realise that there is a disc version available; just that I want to stick my own spare brakes on it)

    thanks

Yeah it's an interesting idea guys – don't think the foes can take much more than a 160mm fork though and the 'zocchis are quite tall.

Thing is I reckon Revs will look quite spindly on my bike – big tubes galore!!

I still need to check the length of the RS Revs too as the FXR was designed around a fox 36 apparently (revs could be too short)

    :D sounds about right that..

    RopeyReignRider

Hmmm… broken Revs eh? That doesn't inspire confidence really!

I know Lopes used Fox 32's on the Megavalanche so they must be pretty tough..

re 36 Vans – I loved mine grumm but as I say, I couldn't get the spring right for me (medium too divey, firm too er.. firm) hence looking at air forks.

I think really the 36 float would be a safe bet…just tempted by 32 Float's if they're tough / long enough for my frame..

I think pikes are a bit too short of travel . . Also about same weight as 36's . . .

    RopeyReignRider

well I've heard talk that the fox 32's are flexier than the rockshox revelations?

Confusing though as fox pitch the 32 as suitable for all-mountain type stuff but rockshox say the revelation is only really a trail fork . . .

    RopeyReignRider

anyone else? Does anyone happen to know the difference between the fox 36 and revelations length?

    Thanks

    Yep it's the 2007 6'' version..

My dilemma is that I mostly do xc/trail riding but do like to hammer some fairly tough descents in the Peaks.

Occasionally I venture to wharncliffe for a bit of DH and the odd uplift day.

I guess I'm trying to balance light weight (the fxr could do with losing a few pounds) against burliness.

tbh I'm no jumper so it's not like my forks really get a hard time of… the only thing occurring to me is that the RS revs might be a bit shorter than the Fox 36's (cant find the length of the revs on RS page)..

The Fox 36 float is "only" about a pound lighter than the 32 flavour float… really depends on the style of bike / riding imo:

lightweight 6'' bouncer / general trail riding = fox 32 float / RS Rev 150

    "all-mountainy" beast / hardcoreish trail riding / occasional DH = Fox 36

If you want to keep it about £1k then wot about the Voodoo Wanga from Halfrauds of all places – probably the best value steel bike out there for £900 and it rides superbly.

Mine's being bashed about in the Peaks for 6 months now and has been fantastic…

    Cool!!!

It's interesting to see that it now works!

To be honest I've not worked in audio electronics for a long while… it was back in 2002 when I tried to build something similar for my dissertation.

    Really impressive stuff though..

I'm intrigued by the lack of mahoosive heatsink too.. the ones I tested needed f£ck loads in order to remain stable..

What sort of load can you drive with that?

ooOOoo – class D amps are very interesting, although I suspect that the class D amps available aren't true class-D.

My final dissertation was based upon utilising a TI Class D chip (about the size of your little finger nail) in order to obtain about 70W class A equivalent power.

It was really interesting and I really hoped to get it working, however the chip always melted :-(

Texas Instruments withdrew the chip shortly afterwards…. can't help thinking it never worked properly :-/

I'd also like to point out that I believe the hi-fi world (magazines in particular) have a lot to answer for in terms of mis-informing people about technologies etc.

RopeyReignRider – Standing up for Sound Engineers here they have a good idea what sounds nice rather than what sounds correct.

I'm not having a go at studio engineers at all, and do appreciate their skill – however in my opinion that is a creative thing as opposed to application of science etc

RopeyReignRider Bose seems good enough for the Institute of Acoustics to use maybe you need to join and put them right.

I'm not saying that all BOSE products are rubbish either; they do make some good kit but bear in mind that PA stuff really is relatively simple in comparison.

Most acoustics or electronics people have absolutely no idea what sounds

I worked for Arcam for a bit and this simply isn't true.. the design engineers produce stuff to a mathematical ideal yes but then it undergoes months and months of very subjective listening tests etc
