I like High Rollers myself, or a Kenda Nevegal.. but a small block 8 can work well on the back in the dry…

..Or perhaps he knows not as much about tyres as some people, hence not knowing where to start?

Blimey, no wonder this place has the reputation it does.. give the guy a break perhaps?

He's only asking a question about tyres, on a bike forum… madness aint it?

I do wonder whether some walkers get confused and think us the same as MX bikes.. certainly a few of the miserable gits around the Peaks class us the same.

Actually, has anyone noticed an interesting phenomenon? Walkers up big hills, proper mountains and in inhospitable places in general, seem to be much, much friendlier to bikers than those pottering around the foot hills / lanes with their Goretex and carbon pole things.

Certainly on Snowdon for example, the walkers at the top seem to have great admiration for bikers having hoiked 30lb of bike up there… whereas the ones pootling around the bottom after their pub lunch seem to think us the devil in baggies…

    just a thought

Titus el-guapo going very cheap on the Jenson website.. and they will ship Titus to the UK (unlike Fox etc).

You'll have to add the usual 20-something percent in VAT and import duty but still a bargain!

    What about a Foes FXR?

OK the small bump response isn't quite as good as some however, point it down a hill and it's faster than pretty much anything in it's class over the rough stuff.

Also, you can stamp on the pedals and climb standing up with virtually no bob and no levers to flick.. worth a try if you can find a dealer near you (give jamie@balfa a call to find your local dealer).

The uplift service sounds pretty good then – I was only going on my (rather limited )experience of uplifts and bike-gouging.

Tis a great feeling though isn't it – that buzz once everyone's at the top waiting to go.. ace

I'd me more concerned about your bike – how are you getting to the top of the hill?

Is it a tractor / trailer overloaded with bikers and bikes clinging on for dear life?

If so, protect your bike in anything you can get hold off – it will get scratched and bashed to f00k!

Pipe lagging seems quite popular on forks…

blimey, i've not been to casbah since about 2004!

Tbh i started avoiding the place after the bouncers began kicking the absolute shite out of any vaguely laryl customers . . .

Shame really, i've not been out regularly for years . . . So depressing .. .

That's what annoys me – some people seem to think that selling things online is a license to " be imaginative" with the truth..

"it's OK, cos it's online innit, they expect it"

    etc

    grr

    Don't get me started… grrrr

My Foes was fookered… incorrect spring (advertised with a 350lb one, came with a 500lb one) and the shock internals were shattered.

It cost me a further £200 to fix / obtain correct spring and then the friendly peeps on here all accused me of being the guy I bought it off ..

i.e. one IWH/ Hamish Anderson / Big dutch

I guess I was one of the lucky ones as I got a partial refund and a mangy old air shock off a foes 4X which I traded in..

people are still owed monies are they not?

(sorry for digging up old issues / pain / memories

Just as a guide – for a while I was riding a 6'' Foes FXR full susser, (one that's built like a brick wotsit)around the Peaks, trail centres and DH runs.

Since not having any forks for it (and not having ready cash to buy new ones) I've been riding my Steel-framed, 80mm-forked hardtail for the last sixth months.

I've ridden exactly the same terrain and at about 95% of the speed downhill as on the Foes.. even overtake my friends on their 6'' bouncers too.

The point is, yes the hardtail hurts at that speed downhill and tries to throw me off a lot more than the foes, however – it copes with everything well! Most bikes do tbh…. really to do with how you ride and not what you ride!

    /end cliches!

Yeah I'd say go for a set of 2006-2008 Fox 36's or RS Lyric – most likely the coil models (avoid the early 36 TALAS models!)

There's little point to a triple clamp unless you're really punishing the bike on a DH run and are going to notice the difference (and as said above some single crowns are stiffer than some dual crowns anyway!)

    Hmmmmmm

tricky… lots of opposing views here! Tbh I struggle to imagine that Talk Talk's customer service can really be any worse than that of BT –

I once had a duff router (and working in network design) I made this clear at the start of the call, in nice, simple terms such as " I really think the router isn't working".

Two hours of discussion and " fault finding" later, they finally conceded that it was f00ked and agreed to send me a replacement.. :-/

Hmm, I'd best check that then! ta

Unfortunatetly I can't get BE broadband…. seems everyone knows someone who's had problems with their providers.. :-S

OK I'll avoid SKY then! Actually that ties in with what a colleague was sayinf re his SKY connection and dropping the VPN all the time…

Plusnet actually owned by BT are they, is that a recent thing?

Hi, nope not got SKY and don't want it tbh (I'm bad enough flicking channels on freeview!)

…honestly all the PM's in this place know not their @rse from elbow!

It'd be nice at least if one of them had the smallest clue as to what they are actually trying to achieve!!

Entry level Denon or Marantz I'd say.. or even the Cambridge Audio kit from Richer Sounds (surprisingly good amps for the wonga).

It really isn't worth spending too much on an amp for mp3 use…and I'm not having a go!

hmmm interesting.. I'll have to check my contract and see if there's an address.

Experience tells me however, that the landlord has no interest in dealing with any of the letting side of things, hence I have to direct everything to the agent… frustrating..

    cheers for the advice guys.

toys19 – the form you mention may be handy, thanks.. I'll PM you.

Just to clarify a few things – firstly I've not actually submitted my proposal of 2 months notice and keeping deposit, to the landlord in writing. Unfortunately I know of my actual landlord only by the name of the trust to which the rent goes. All my correspondance is through an agency who are actually a friend of the landlord (and a commercial surveryors not a letting agency).

Secondly, although the landlord / agent would not know where I was moving to, they have my work email address and also know (very roughly) where I work. Furthermore, working in financial services (albeit in IT) I have to be very careful – I couldn't have an irate landlord approaching my boss for contact details etc.

Thirdly, my deposit is in the Govt deposit protection schemey thing..

Because the choices were a 6 month fixed term or 12 month fixed term contract.

At the time (last June) Mrs RRR wanted some security and we had a nice, quiet family living next door… so we signed the 12 month one!

(also, at the time the landlord was threatening to sell the property so we wanted the security of it being sold with us as tentants)

interesting stuff guys – we've been in the property for just over a year if that makes any odds (initial 6 month contract and then a new 12 month one signed last June).

This is the thing, my landlord to be frank, is an @rse.

I'm quite sure that they wouldn't bother trying to find another tenant in a hurry as they know that we're tied-in legally until June.

I'm also not sure whether or not to mention the reasons for us needing to leave??

On one hand they might be sympathetic, on t'other they'll know that they might have issues with future tenants being disturbed and hence be reluctant to attempt to re-let until the last possible minute??!
