i've got an inline post but with saddle right back in rails. Using an 80mm stem. .

Weight wise it seems to be about 34.5 pounds with single-ply high rollers on but pretty light kit everywhere else – really is knackering on all day xc rides!

yeah tis a good point – we tried to ride cut gate last week and managed about a mile before hitting four foot snow drifts . .

hi, well that's the thing – I already have a Large fxr . . i dont really understand why it feels so short as in theory the top tube is the same as many other bikes!

I really do love the feel of the fxr and would be sad to see it go but it's really pretty damn heavy!

agreed. You need something with decent volume and strongish side walls, unless you enjoy pinch punctures . . .

What's the frame weight like on the Alpine, Si?

I've heard of a few back-end snappages over on southern downhill forum… mostly larger guys I think,

you still got the alpine Si?

indeed Si, tis the perils of buying secondhand :-(

would like to try a spicey actually..

si – not definite but the foes really feels too short for me.

I dont know what to do tbh – i love the foes suspension and it really foes feel much better than anything i've tried, in the rough stuff. . . Yet its really a bit too heavy for all day riding and too short . .

Does anyone happen to know where you can test-ride Intense's near Sheffield?!

mmmmmmmmm, that does look very nice! is that the standard black?

    what size is that?

If yer anywhere near lancs, cheshire, etc, etc, your more than welcome to have a play on my Heckler, and see how you get on with it?

Very kind of you but I'm in Sheffield and don't drive :-(

The Titus el guapo did catch my eye but isn't a huge amount lighter than my current Foes.

Interesting stuff guys but it seems opinons are somewhat mixed!

My mate has the Blur LT and I know it's a very capable bike… think I should scab a proper ride on it perhaps..

mmm the Chumba does look nice but I really feel like I need the full 6 inches!

    (that sounds wrong… :-S )

    RopeyReignRider

Yeah I know it's a slightly odd comparison!

    The deal is this:

I can probably sell my current frame and only need to put 4-500 squids to the wonga to afford the Heckler.

Alternatively, if the Tracer really is as fabtastic as it looks I'd have to sell the existing bike, ride the hardtail for a good few months and save up the extra £700 or so..

tbh the Blur LT2 is again a bit too on the XC side of " everything" for me, and the Nomad just doesn't float my boat for some reason.. although I've not ridden either the Nomad or Tracer yet!!

Hmm the Turner 5 spot is an idea but perhaps a bit more on the trail side of "everything"?

I can't really imagine it with Fox 36's at an uplift day, for example..

    Hmmm

It's all "hypothetical" at the moment anyway, or at least that's what I'm telling the Mrs..

Tbh I don't much fancy the Hemlock or Pace..

I want something 6'' ish, lighter than my current Foes and a bit longer (the foes is waaaay too short).

However, unlike most "all mountain" bikes this one really does need to be able to do XC all day rides as well as DH days…

The Heckler does look good for the money and my mate was always impressed with his..

I realise that VPP and single-pivot ride very differently but I'm not sure that the VPP " magic-carpet" feel is worth so much more wongas..

    Has anyone ever ridden both?

hmmm. I've not yet ridden the tracer but tried a mates heckler and was impressed by how light it felt.

Has anyone ridden both at all?

hmmm interesting stuff guys. Problem is i've sold the old reign – guess i need to measure a mates and compare (frames that is).

I purpose ultimately it could allow me to justify a new tracer! :-)

    RopeyReignRider

well i bought the frame secondhand and it's supposed to be a Large.

I've measured from bottom bracket to top of seat tube and this just over twenty inches which equates to it being the large size.

Its a bit odd tbh . . . When i got it i lined it up next to the old reign and it looked almost identical, however it feels much more cramped!

    RopeyReignRider
    Free Member

    hmmm thats what i thought.

It looks more like a 23 inch effective length which it aint supposed to be!

    RopeyReignRider
    Free Member

I have changed to an in-line post but the saddle works out to be in the same place as on the previous lay-back post (just moved the saddle on the rails).

So.. what's the correct way to measure real and efective top tube?

    RopeyReignRider
    Free Member

Are some brands just shorter or longer in their idea of what a 23/24'' top tube is?

    RopeyReignRider
    Free Member

The bars are about the same height as on the Reign and the seatpost, whilst non-layback has the saddle positioned in the rails so as to be in the same position as on the reign.

OK, so if I want to measure the true effective or real top tube length, where should I be measuring?

Is it the middle of the headtube to middle of seat tube, in a horizontal line?
