    Hmmm

So due to the current madness I had to queue to fill my car with the only available diesel – HVO diesel.

I understand it’s liquid chips, or at least smells like it but is it likely to flip my 2010 Mundane-o ?!

(I probably won’t wear the watch a whole lot outside exercising as my work (uni) won’t allow it)

I do however really want to listen to music whilst running as it’s the only thing that stops me giving up and whimpering off home…

    Thanks guys.

So, I’m still a but confused — the Apple Watch 6 for example, seems to be advertised with call functionality but doesn’t say it’s cellular?

Re running – I’m not too concerned about training / performance but would like to track my runs and have a rough idea what my heart is up to. My current exercise regime is a 6 mile trail run once a week, quite slowly indeed..

Hmmm, if my music was mp3 or Spotify then a garmin would make more sense I guess.

Can someone explain in simple terms which Apple watches have cellular?

Does the 6 for example always have cellular – it’s advertised as having call capability but it’s not clear if it requires a phone?

Is it correct that earlier models allow you to download Apple Music songs just not stream them?

(And yes probably worth doing a can service although I’ve always hated my rear shock as it doesn’t have any form of lockout / compression damping)

    your priorities are wrong Op.

    In what way Jekyll?

I gave up a well paid career of 12 yrs to do medicine and Mrs RRR and sprogs have had to make a lot of sacrifices to support me.
I don’t feel I can give up medicine at least, 6 months from my finals.

As for kids, surely they have to be a priority?

Re motivation – think I need to find some riding buddies.

If I know I’m meeting someone I’ll get sorted and out, on my own I just can’t be bothered / feel too knackered

Night riding sounds like a plan.. just need to find a route from the door (lots
Of footpaths but no proper trails).

Mini RRR V3.0 is 7 and has his own half decent MTB. I love riding with him but can’t really ever let rip..

Last time I rode with him I stayed behind him for the whole day. On the final run I asked if I could just sprint 100 yards down the track.. he said sure… got to the bottom and was asked if the crying, abandoned 7 yr old 100 yards away sat in the nettles was mine😐

RRR – you might actually be more efficient in the use of your time if you got a bit of time on your bike – the peace of mind might help you achieve more in your remaining time

You could be right. I’ve recently dragged myself out for some trail runs as it’s a lot of exercise in a short time.

The issue I have with the bikes is that whilst there’s loads of road riding from my door, the trails require a drive / faff.
I also hate riding on my own and my old riding group disbanded about 10 years ago!

Oddly the suspension doesn’t feel great despite having been used so little – I could get both end serviced but seems a lot right now.

I do have a cheap road bike that also never gets used…

I desperately want to get out but genuinely have virtually zero free time
    – my final year placement requires a 2 to 3 hour round trip driving each day , then there’s kids to sort, then the whole of medicine to attempt to learn.

I do realise however that this situation is entirely my own fault! 😀

    Well that was blinking stupid.

    Yep 😃

I’m writing this whilst at the ante natal clinic – mini RRR v3.0 due in late November!

I wouldn’t mind so much but everything on my bike is “out of date” – was thinking of upgrading suspension but then it’s non-boost etc etc

    Thanks 😃

So, I’ve actually had it in the ground for about a year. It was “free” to collect on marketplace, I dug a massive trench and used wood and bricks to tame it.
I believe it’s the clumping type. Only problem is that it was from a plant that was 20 foot heigh so I have lots of very thick stems that have been chopped off (to fit in the car) which look a bit pants, hence wanting the new shoots to grow through.

I think unfortunately anyone who would be capable isn’t going to like wot ^ they said.

I’m a mere manky med student and my dermatology consultant wouldn’t even give a speculative opinion on a spot on my nose that needs look at.. just because it wasn’t via the correct channels blah.

Presumably if you have an MRI scan someone will have looked / will be looking at it?

It seems there are varying degrees of inspection.

I did this when looking at a secondhand Audi. I simply asked the dealer if I could borrow (test drive) the car for an hour and booked it into my local garage. £59 and hour later I had a long list of reasons not to buy the car (including some seemingly innocuous faults such as a dodgy door handle that would actually cost ££££ to resolve).

    Just a thought …

We’ve had Hetty for 7 years (Henry in drag). She packed up just before Christmas and I was thinking she’d have to get binned.

I was soooooooo ridiculously happy that I could fix her myself with genuine Numatic hetty-guts off the internet for £20.

The fix-ability alone means I’ll never lust after an alternative house sucker.

Well, I’ve had the Pfizer one and haven’t grown anything extra, other than extreme grumpiness and an overwhelming intolerance for Covid conspiracy theories (unrelated to this thread btw!)

I guess my answer would be the Pfizer
    One then?

^^ the billy bonkers looks good although I’m not sure if it’s knobbly enough for trail centres/ mud perhaps?

I’m struggling to find a spec for the alleged kenda kinetic 24’s it has..

    RopeyReignRider
    Free Member

    Ha, no it’s not 16KG!! 😃

I’ve raised this with Halfords but they still refuse to do anything about the listing.

It’s just over 12kg hence my thinking small changes could help a bit.

Tyres are probably a good shout but it seems tricky to find good 24” ones?

    RopeyReignRider
    Free Member

I don’t have a lot of garage parts tbh, maybe a stem or bars.

The tyres are allegedly Kenda something or other but I can’t find a weight for any of their 24” tyres.

You’re probably right that he won’t notice much difference but it’d be nice to trim it a bit if not crazy expensive…

    RopeyReignRider

Hmm, so it might not really be worth the cost then?

Yep, I’ll try to get a closer look at it.

Any other ideas on how to lighten it? The fork is actually one of the less lead-like suntours.

    RopeyReignRider

^^ do you keep yours at a constant temperature or keep it low and turn it up a few hours before use?

It’d make sense to keep it low but I never know quite when I want to use it. Not quite so relaxing at 30 degrees ..

Tbh we use ours a lot and in all weathers.

It’s been a sanity – saver this week as we’re all in self isolation as Mrs RRR is Covid plague positive 😕

Can’t even go for a walk, stupid virus 🦠

The Voodoo Bakka (Halfords) seems very good value for money… much lighter fork than those usually specced, 9 speed Altus drivetrain (easy to upgrade to something lighter) and has mechanical disc brakes.

It seems a bargain at £320, we’ve recently ordered one for junior RRR (nearly 7yrs old, about 127cm )

    RopeyReignRider

I’ve spent days researching 24” bikes for junior RRR.

If your nipper is likely to want an MTB style bike then I’ve discovered that the Voodoo Bakka 24 (Halfords) appears to be exceptional value at £320 .

    – mechanical disc brakes
    – decent ish SR suntour fork (magnesium and alloy version about 2lbs lighter than the lead one usually specced on kids bikes)
    – Kenda tyres
    – proper 9 speed cassette, shifter and mech (easily upgradable to something lighter later on)

The Halfords website lists the weight at over 16KG which is incorrect – it’s about 12.5.

We’ve got one on order now..

    Good work stu.

I actually think drinking in moderation (less than 14 units per week for example) is in many ways harder than not drinking at all, for me at least.

I struggle to stop the Friday / Saturday beers or wine creeping into Thursday, the odd Tuesday etc

    RopeyReignRider
    Free Member

    Phew 😅

It wasn’t as hard as it could have been (probably slightly easier having done it before).

I appreciate that some reading this will think it’s no achievement to not drink for a month but when it’s a firmly ingrained habit it’s tough to shake imo.

    Anyway, well done peeps 🎉

I’m just hoping I can use it to change my habits more long term 🍷

    @mister P

Ah well. You’ve done a month anyway wot with starting early. Good work!

    @eddie
    . I wouldn’t worry – any time not drinking is a Good Thing 🙂

    How’s everyone else doing?

I’m slurping Aldi’s AF fizzy beer flavoured drink as I type .. one day left but I’m unsure what I’ll do tomorrow.

I mean, it’s a ‘Kin crazy world out there and sometimes red wine does just take the edge off …

Grandepotato – errrrm I drink quite a lot but mostly horrible fake stuff from the canteen. It’s a good point though certainly!

Tbh, I think it’s just life that makes me exhausted 😴

I’m not sure I’ve noticed many benefits; I’m still sleeping moderately rubbishly, have no energy and feel knackered every second of every day.

I have (purely coincidentally) lost about 6lbs in weight though 🤔

    Are we all still in?

I’m wondering whether I should treat myself to a proper beer on Sunday (the 1st) or hold out until Friday OR keep going for as long as I can 😬

I have however had 5 Friday night curries with fake beer… it’s taking it’s toll

    RopeyReignRider

Yep will do. Both my boys have never had new bikes but I thought I might try to get junior RRR a new one if at all possible as it *should* last him a fair while if he fits a 24” .

I’m definitely on the look out for secondhand too though

    RopeyReignRider

Thanks all, budget wise I’m afraid we’re looking at £300 ish rather than £800 (I’m a poor mature student , woe is me etc)

Junior RRR is about 126cm so it looks like he might just be able to fit a 24” bike ok? I measured the stand over height of some in the local lbs and they look ok compared to his old bike.

So, what 24” rigid kids bike that’s available and exists, for about £300?! 😃

    RopeyReignRider

Erm, I’m not actually sure how tall the boy is .. I should probably check!😃

What makes the Orbea Laufeys betterer than the standard MX range, are they just better alloy/lighter?

    RopeyReignRider

Thanks for all of the replies.

Hmmm, so it seems suspension forks probably aren’t worth it unless I’m spending ££££ on a bike for the boy?

Next question is whether he’ll safely fit on a 24”? I don’t reeeeally want to take him to a bike shop to test as it was going to be a surprise. Hmm

Mine was on a 24″ before his 6th birthday… he still had room on the 20″ but we wanted disk brakes and forks.

Did you not find he struggled with manoeuvring it? Junior RRR loves razzing around the BMX track as well as MTB trails – worried he’d be perched up on a 24”? 🤔

    RopeyReignRider

^^ sounds great. I suspect the forks on your daughters bike must be a lot better than those on the £300 – £350 bikes I’m looking at?!

I was sort of wondering whether there’s anyway at all I could get him on a 24” bike but he’s not even 7 yet so I know the answer really…

    Good work NoBeer!

I can see how if I only liked beer it *could* be maybe possibly feasible to give up entirely but I’ve yet to find anything that stops me fancying wine 🍷! 🤔

    How are we all doing?

I’ve been craving a glass of red but have remained alcohol free. I can’t say I’ve noticed any improvement in sleep or energy levels mind!

    RopeyReignRider
    Free Member

I’m finding AF beer / tonic water helps as I think at least 50% or my er “problem” / habit is wanting something fizzy to sup on at the end of the week, rather than actually wanting a fuzzy alcohol glow.

(That’s what I’m telling myself anyway)

It feels a bit easier having done it last year, I think 🤔
