In my somewhat limited experience of coil shocks, a good Ti spring feels waaaay more supple than the equivalent steel, to the point where you might even want the next spring weight up.

As for whether they offer a performance advantage for the "average trail rider" I'm undecided.

The only time my coil shock felt better than my air shock was on low speed, large (ish) drops on DH courses, where the air shock would blow it's beans and go right through it's travel…

Interesting responses guys and I'm glad that some of you also believe its possible to use 150mm+ in the peaks- I certainly do when spanking Lockerbrook at bwwaaarp speed!

Also a valid point about it being more to do with consideration for others in that respect.

The thing is that I can't justify a separate DH bike although I would like to get into that side of things a bit more.

It seems that there's not many bikes that offer a trail bike feel/weight bit with sturdy forks…. I guess the Tracer is a good compromise?!

Any other suggestions for a more modest budget??

I don't have an accurate scales on which to weigh it unfortunately.

Do other iPhones have this lip or ridge at the edge then, or is it smooth?

Not easy to show in a photo really and no my previous phone was definitely glass front and back!

Can I ask; if you guys run your nail across the back from middle to edge do you hit a sort of lip or ridge on the edge?

Mine does and I'm sure the old one didn't!

Yeah definitely still plastic and no
I've taken the cellophane off… Bit odd, I can't find anyone else on tinterweb who's come across it :-S

Yeah I will be taking it back when I can get to the shop, problem is there's still not many of them around to replace it with!

I've also noticed what looks like screen-burn at the bottom; wonder if I've got a refurbished display model or something :-(

Hmm those Mythics do look nice but I'm slightly put off by the bushings instead of bearings. They're also fairly heavy compared to a Tracer etc

Freeborne also do the Devinci Hectik at an amazing price with forks but I have no chance of test riding as they're darn sarf ..

thanks, oh and I need a Large sort of size really.

    And preferably a true 6''er with at least a 68 degree H/A

    fussy? moi?

*feels somewhat annoyed for not jumping on that Tracer that was going for £750 a few months back*

    Hi Guys

Well we didn't do much to him tbh

We applied some very subtle make-up (painted his nails, bit of eye shadow, mascara)

The overall effect was actually far more disturbing than dressing him up as he looked like a normally dressed bloke out for a few beers albeit with some subtle makeup :-S

However, in the second pub we went in to, the local drunk started on him big time:

DRUNK: "Why the **** are you **** wearing make-up??!"

PETE: " ah, well it's just what we wear where I come from"

DRUNK " Are you **** gay or what you **** w@nker!"

    PETE " a bit, maybe"

    DRUNK " Why don't you just **** **** off you **** p00f, **** ****"

At this point I stepped in and ushered Pete away :-S (I think also the drunk was ushered out)

So yeah, we had to make his makeup a little more unsubtle in order not to cause further issues :-S

He looked er interesting by the end of the night and of cause had the obligatory "p£nis" written across his head in make-up …

sooBallias. – that's not quite what I had in mind no!

I did consider us dressing as ladies but the other guy wasn't too keen :-(

I'm running out of time and think it's unlikely I'll be able to obtain a dress for the stag in time :-/

Some good ideas though … What about some challenges to be set in the evening in town perhaps – Amy ideas. ??

I should clarify that I've never been on the stereotyped sort of stag do and am only after a few gentle ideas really …not going to do anything nasty, I just wanted to distinguish the weekend from a normal weekend away …

Well I'm not talking total humiliation – I just want him to remember it as his stag do …

Yeah I was hoping to force him into a dress for the climb up scafell pike but am having trouble sourcing one big enough …

sorry to hear that freddyg – take it down, wash it and stroke it.

It might then inspire you to at least ride it round the garden, which in turn might mean you end up riding at some point??

well all the best to those recovering mentally and/or physically.

Once again it's made me feel like a moaning git!

    Blimey, so I'm not alone!

If you want a cheap frame and forks to build something up then my current project is up for grabs. Not looking for much as I just want rid of it.

Interesting Creg – what are they and what size is the frame??

My mate has temporarily lent me and old frame and forks so once I've built it up I might get to ride… still, would much prefer to have something of my own!

    RopeyReignRider

antennae – I take it you've tried the heating frame with hot water then using a hammer to smack the cr@p out of the seatpost head in the direction away from the frame, approach?

It's the only thing that worked for me, after a week trying..

    RopeyReignRider

Blmey Creg, that's pretty unfortunate! Hope you recover soon..

I'm rapidly turning into a right miserable f3cker too… I now end up doing nothing at the weekends and to make matters worse I live about a mile from the edge of the Peaks and get bikers zooming down the hill past my front room window, on their lovely expensive bouncy bikes :-/

    RopeyReignRider

Where you riding? This country…… if yes forget the Alpine go for the Five, our hills ain't big enough to warrant that bike

errrm, doesn't that rather depend on what and how you ride?!

An Alpine is going to be a lot more fun if the rider dabbles in DH, or doesn't mind slogging uphill for an epic descent in say the Lakes or even the Dark Peaks.

Not only that but people's riding style varies so much that it's impossible to generalise and say the Alpine is too much bike – regular 5' drop offs anyone? Then I'd rather have the Alpine!

    25/30 mile all-days – I'd take the 5!

oh right, can they definitely re-register it with no problems then?

bidding ended, but there were no bids! not the same as sold, surely!

anyway…. so anyone able to tell me how I know if it's unlocked etc, before registering it?

    RopeyReignRider

cheers, is there anyway I can tell if it's unlocked before taking it out of the box and poking it?!

    (it hasn't arrived yet)

OK another question… can anyone tell me what the deal is re registering an iphone and then flogging it?

The phone is supposed to be coming unlocked but I'd like to test this prior to selling it, but would that mean registering it?

Then, if registered in my name does that mean I can't sell it?!

hmmmm, the Devinci Hecktik looks rather good value although I can't find any reviews on the 2010 model (supposed to use proper bearings as opposed to bushings and tings)

I like the idea re weight :D

When I say "light" I mean preferably less than the Foes which was 34.5lb and a beasty to get up the hills..

69 degree H/A on that Prongything.. little bit steep for me tbh

    *googles Pronghorn*

sounds like a disease of the manhood :-S

re coiler.. hmmm, well tbh I've been spoilt having had a lovely Foes as my last bouncy bike. ..

the thing is it needs to be light enough to ride all day in the Peaks as well as being bounced off trees in Wharncliffe..

I haven't a budget in mind.. just wondering what's out there tbh!
