    …one other thing though

When I phoned leisure lakes they basically said I could bring the voucher in and get what I like pretty much…

    Ah OK, thanks for that.

It’s a bit confusing as my work boasted at having responded to complaints about only being able to get bikes from Halfords.

As such it made a big thing about being able to source bikes from over 50 associate partners.

tbh there are bikes at Halfords stock that I would consider (Voodoo D-jab .. stunning value!).

However, my main motivation for looking elsewhere is that I want to spend part of my voucher on clothing / helmet etc but Halfords range is rubbish!

Ah right, yeah that could be tricky!

Anyone know of anywhere near Sheffield?

The 2010/11 lyriks with mission control DH damping (RC2DH models) are amazing and blow my old fox 36’s out of the water.

There’s a small review of them in this months MBUK.

However there’s a huge range of damping systems available with the Lyrik – I’ve heard the cheaper ones aren’t so good whereas mine are
    like a mini boxxer !

WAFL – yep, it was there I noticed the The Ones!

hmmmm, I’m still not sure :-S

    Hmmm, opinion pretty divided then!

I’m just not convinced either way!

    Hmm interesting Si!

I had the elixirs on the voodoo and they seemed OK but never as powerful as I thought they should be.

Maybe its worth trying formula then…

The new 2011 Intense Tracer 2 perhaps?

Adjustable 150/160mm travel, adjustable geometry and wheelbase , and a choice of 135mm or 142mm dropouts in bolt through!

    Mental!

Hmm I don’t mind snow in general but it’s a bit iffy on the exposed edges perhaps ..

    RopeyReignRider

Well we did it a few years ago in mental wind and rain but no snow!

Unfortunately one of my mates is convinced it’s unrideable as he’s driven past snowdon and saw the snow on it.

**** wimps… Bet we end up riding cyb instead :-(

Hmm just not sure – snow could be OK but if rangers path is covered in ice it wouldn’t be so much fun :-/

Hmmm well I might be tempted to ride a roadie for fun on occasion too ..

OK, another newbie-roadie question (please don’t laugh)..

Is it possible to put flat bars on a bike like the roadie above and not completely f00k the handling??

I stuck a Wanted add in classifieds a few times and got nowt of any interest really :-S

anyways, bus aside… what to do!?!?

    Hmmm decisions

Martz – make yourself known, who are you “over there” ??

    RopeyReignRider

Ah well the thing is I only have one bike at the moment.

After getting my hardtail nicked and having to sell the bouncy bike due to financial crisis I had no bikes at all.

However, I’ve just built up a lovely new Intense Tracer but really don’t want to ride that to work!

So I guess it’s really between a roadie like the one shown or a halfords hybrid?

Excuse my ignorant but can mud guards be fitted to the roadie above?!

    RopeyReignRider
    Free Member

Well this is the roadie I was considering in the classifieds:

    Clicky

Not knowing anything about roadies I have no idea how long it’d last?!

My budget is also only around £200 too

Oh Lordy, maybe this means that I will finally have an excuse to buy XTR??!

Surely it’s wrong to put mere XT on a spangly new frame?!

    ;-)

Erm having just splashed out on a brand new Intense, can I just ask – what happens when you own a posh bike and there’s not much to upgrade to ?

I’ve never had quite such a spangly one before coming from a secondhand foes fxr, giant reign, voodoo wanga, Gary fisher big sur , GT I-drive – all either old or mainstream!

Albino – that looks very nice!

I was torn between the works red and works raw..

    I didn’t ride :-(

    I still feel like **** :-(

    RopeyReignRider

I’ve not even ridden it yet :-(

I’ve got man-flu and haven’t so much got it’s tyres dirty!

Re comparison with the reign; I haven’t ridden one for a good while as sold it nearly two years ago and bought a secondhand foes which turned out to be a mistake .

The foes was heavy, overdamped and for some reason way too short for me despite being roughly the same geometry as reign!

I only actually rode the foes about ten times and was on my voodoo wants hardtail until that got nicked, and then on various borrowed bikes until now!

(sorry no-one asked for my bike history!)

Btw is it possible to change your name on here?!

Re ISGC mounts – yep I noticed that there’s naff all clearance too!

I’ve not yet tried to fit a chain device but imagine it’ll be a “challenge” !

Re warrantied for 170mm – it’s a bit of a grey area! Whilst posting on mtbr about what forks to choose for it I received a private message from the Intense customer service guy ( johnie?).

He told me that he runs fox 36 talas in 180/140mm mode and suggested I try it!

Having said that the official line is 160mm; I want to reduce them down to that anyway as it’s a bit much for occasional jaunts to trail centres etc ( obviously over-biked for such places but 160 feels a bit more sensible!)

Re saddle – er its a ti railed WTB jobbie but can’t remember which – one of the racier ones anyway!

    RopeyReignRider

    Yep tis a Large.

2010 model with ahem ‘revised’ rear triangle and ISGC mounts.
2010 Rockshox Lyrik Solo Air DH 170mm
    XT cranks and things
    Hope hoops
Mish mash of Thomson , Easton and er Tioga for finishing kit
Brakes are roper old Hayes (soon to be replaced)

You probably don’t care about all that but hey ho! :-)

Ah I see! Yes, an acquired taste are Intense!

The only issue is the fork – got the 170mm lyrik at a good price but need to spacer it down to 150/160mm ish

Not even so much as got it’s tyres dirty yet!

Well, my lungs feel ok but my head is full of snot and I feel tired.

I’m tempted to go anyway and walk the climbs on the pretence of having too as I’ve just fitted 170mm forks and have a big bouncy bike ( great excuse that)

Guess I can see how I feel in the morning … Mrs-to-be RRR is obviously trying to put me off but then she always does!

    RopeyReignRider

Well I’ve not climbed on the bike to find out! I’m just not sure where the snot will go while I’m riding … Presumably onto my bars :-s

    Oh I wish I knew …
