Julians- cheers for the info. I think perhaps the crucial thing is what you said about leaving the seats in. We currently clip mini RRR’s seat into an isofix base but it’s getting harder the heavier he gets. I guess if his next seat remains in place it’s lot easier (although ideally I’d prefer a rear facing seat).

Hmm, stuff to think about certainly.

Next question – if the wife passes her driving test month do I let her drive my car or buy an old banger for her to tootle about in? :D

Julians- where did you put everything?!

Even the pram and a suitcase takes up most of the boot (no different to many cars I guess)

Also what size/age car seats did you have fitted?

Hora – value jeans?! Cords my boy, cords

Ok, so let the mockery begin.

The cars nowt too special – 2008 (not relevant) BMW (only relevant for purposes of mockery) 3 series coupe (slightly relevant)

So, it’s not a bad size and currently the bike gets posted in the letter box boot opening as the rear seats fold flat.

I think with 2 mini RRR’s it could be an issue but I am already wondering how we’re going to get everything down to the Gower for a mini holiday with friends next month!

My car is on HP and I’m nearly half way through the agreement so could return it without penalty in October, or pay a settlement figure. My work do not bad lease deals but they’re still quite hefty for an equivalent car (320d is about £460 a month but includes everything, insurance, maintenance , tyres etc)

    Hmmm

    Pimp – boom tish.

To clarify (for the easily confused).. My boot is about the size of most family saloon car’s boots!

This intrigues me as I’ve had bananas nearly entirely decompose in my Camelbak within a ride

I guess it’s not there fault but a few seem to have a lose grasp of the English language.

    It pains me

You say that like it’s not a problem!

I can’t be sure that it’s definitely not happening at other times, in fact I bet it’s happened at least twice since I last posted..

Oh, they’re at it again on that loosing weight/fasting ride thread..

    Stop it!

A random nice lady tool pity on me and offered me a lift from hospital back to my car several miles away when I spannered / severely sprained my ankle on Tuesday. It was very nice of her and saved me a very painful hobble..

Oh and I stopped off to pick up wine, beer and mushrooms on my home for the pedants :-)

That is , I was clarifying for the pedants. The wine, beer and mushrooms weren’t for the pedants .

^ damn autocorrect . Eternity , even. Either way , a very long time!

Seriously though, is it the silent curse of roadie-ism? Can you tell I’ve not ridden my road bike much?

Hmmm, the shorts are Decathlons finest.

Are you suggesting there’s better out there?! *gasp*

Oh and be prepared for some tough routes – I minced a mere 15 miles last Saturday but took in about 2300 ft of climbing :-/

Just bear in mind that the dark peak (hope, hathersage, bamford, Edale) offers a different kind of riding to the white peak towards Buxton , bakewell etc

(Dark peak = steeper, gritty big rocks and in my humble opinion more fun!)

Rob – is there much difference in axle to crown then? Pikes are looking tempting to replace Lyriks on my tracer but I want to keep my H/A as it is really ..

    RopeyReignRider

How does the axle to crown length compare between pike and lyrik?

Also, does anyone know how the pike’s damping compares to the frankly excellent mission control DH that I’ve have on my lyrik RC2DH’s?

    Nicklouse!

It wasn’t too bad ta although if forgotten that for every epic descent there’s a horrid climb :-/. I only managed about 15 miles but given it was my second time on a bike in 6 month it wasn’t too bad ..

@rse burgers. I read this a bit late.

If you saw a crumbled being representing a mountain biker on a red Tracer today then that was me. I did lots of holding gates open not because I needed a rest, not that at all but because I’m nice like that.

Remind me not to walk up the footpath that joins the beast – f3ckered :-/

    ^^ I like this idea :-)

You know what’s really frustrating is that every day I see cars parked on the same bit of land getting ticketed (presumably as like me they saw no signs).

    Fcukers >:-(

    UPDATE:

I wrote to them and appealed the issue of the ticket on the grounds that there was no signage (and it’s a legal requirement etc.) I found a great template letter online and asked them to send me about 30 odd documents in order for me to prepare my appeal to Popla or whatever they’re called. I also enclosed 8 photos of my car parked on the bit of waste land with no signs near it.

I’ve received a (snotty) letter saying they’ll cancel it but only as a gesture of good will.. Yay!

One thing I’m not sure about is whether having an additional room coming off the kitchen would actually add value to the house? It’s not an ideal layout really.

Also, where do my bikes go?!!

    RopeyReignRider
    Free Member

The house, mortage, deeds etc are all in Mrs RRR’s name.

It’s incredibly frustrating as now there’s nothing stopping me being on a mortgage application I just don’t know how we go about changing it? Presumably we can only be on a joint mortgage when she remortgaged?

    RopeyReignRider

Well I think my insurance is set for 8* my salary and a bit less for the wife. It’s through my work and doesn’t cost much so you’re probably right in that i should bump it up a bit.

Does anyone know how remortgaging would work when it’s time? Obviously the wife will be remortgaging but is it simple to add me to it?

    RopeyReignRider

Well the thing is that our life insurances don’t automatically pay off the mortgage, more that they’re cash payments. As such if something happened to the wife I’d have to wave money at her bank somehow?

I have nothing to offer other than my sympathy. I’ve been awake pretty much since Tuesday morning with a 3 month old mini RRR and a wife with some sort of chronic food poisoning. As such poor wife has been crumpled in bed barely able to move and I’ve been spending the last 16 hours or so trying to appease mini RRR with bottles instead of Mrs RRR’s ample frontage. The boy is not happy, I’ll be attempting the night feeds and also have the laughable prospect of going to work tomorrow and dealing with several pressurised projects. Oh and then I’m on call from Friday afternoon for 8 days (as well as the 9-5).

    Rant over

Apologies, hope you make some progress :-)

A Trangia isn’t a Trangia without 3rd degree meths-related burns in my opinion.

I experienced my first at the young age of 13 whilst on DofE bronze training expedition. Oh the memories .,

Well, that didn’t go quite to plan.

Mini RRR (3 months old) decided to wake us hourly throughout the night. I couldn’t face riding in and back with so little sleep :-/

    Tomorrow! Hopefully

MrNice – I work near the fire/police museum. We shall see what happens tomorrow!

The only bit of Chesterfield road I really don’t fancy is where the contra flow is from KFC up to Halfords – there’s no bus lane and traffic is usually stationary!

I’m now starting to wish I’d ridden my bike since doing the coast to coast in September – two stone overweight and squeezing into Lycra in the morrow :-/

Ah ok. It hadn’t occurred to me to go that way at all. I’d still have to plod through Dronfield though.

It’s more the whole Abbeydale or Chesterfield road bit that I’m least looking forward to. Being so, so unfit at the moment I’m really dreading the climb up Chesterfield road to Meadowhead, if I go that route :-/

    RopeyReignRider

LS – what route did you take to get to Abbeydale?

I see some crazy fools spinning down the A61 bypass regularly. It doesn’t look like a good idea :-/

    Not Chesterfield! Ghetto-Unstone actually.

In my defence we were first time buyers/had few options/no money

I’m also not sure whether to commute on the roadie or the hybrid with discs- light weight versus the ability to stop :-/

    * not “interesting” in the way a new bike is interesting, a giant mutant hawk landing on your bird bath is interesting, number 37 forgetting to close their curtains on a Friday evening interesting .

    Just nerd interesting

Wickes stuff seems ok but for the love of all things holy don’t use their fitters!

££££ 3 months , 3 seperate leaks , 2 lots of destroyed kitchen ceiling, 2 retiled floors and we now just about have something that resembles a (poorly fitted) bathroom :-/

Is this ^^ a better idea than sending them the photos I took of my car in situ? Obviously if I send them photos it confirms me as the driver!
