Does the vehicle vibrate or make excessive tyre noise when driven?

It does but I’m not sure how much of this is due to it being a 22yr old banger?!

    Thanks guys

Hmmm, looks like the fronts are 2014 but oddly one side not as bad as the other.

I cant see a code on the rears at all?

Re replacing them – it’s tricky; this was only ever meant to be a stop gap until I start work. I **should** only be pootling on 30 mph roads for the next few months but do occasionally do motorway miles etc

Was that the one featuring the amazing Dylan T?

    Indeed. The infamous Dylan T…

I mostly hid in the peaks again thread as it seemed suited to my relaxed / lazy attitude to riding 🙂

Ropey, free on Monday? I need a companion for my Stanage ride.

Ooh. I could be. I literally haven’t don’t any exercise in 6 months though so would be a bit worried about testing your patience!

    What sort of loop?

Many moons ago I started riding the peak(s) with people I met on Bike Magic (remember that?!) – peaks again thread

Apologies to OP for the hijack ..

Complete hijack but this is my old stomping ground and reading this thread has made me realise I need to dust off the bike (for various reasons it’s been used 4 times in 4 years).

Soo… anyone up for a slow ride round the peak(a) with an entirely unfit 41yr old who’ll inevitably moan about how tired they are / how horrible their kids are?

    Nooo?

Problem solved, give her the keys to your lovely vw polo and take her astra.

The only slight issue is that we also have 3 mini RRR’s to cart about. She can get herself and them in the Astra but no chance in the polo.

It’s getting a bit silly having to take two cars if we need to move as a family..

Pickup a cheap bucket seat and some mounting rails.

I already had worrying thoughts of roll cages and track days. I don’t need this sort of encouragement 🙂

    6N2?

    Ummm yep I think so.

Re replacing interior – we don’t know for certain that a height adjustable seat goes down any further do we? Could be a faff only to find I’m jammed in but on slightly nicer seats? 🤔

I’m 6’7″ and have driven 6n polos no problems

I must be an odd shape then.

I do have a fancy sunroof though so wonder if that lowers the roof liner?

In theory when I start work I should be able to get something else within a few months.

However, it’s a solid little car and given the grimey pit of a location I’ll be parking for work it’d be good if I could keep it.

^^ loving the suggestions. I think removing the front seat and sitting on the back makes most sense 🤔

(@damascus I think next gen polos after mine were a bit bigger).

On the plus side, it’s a surprisingly fun car (up to about 40 mph at which point the tedium in making progress gets a bit much).

@greybeard – hmmm interesting! I’m not great at erm removing metal from stuff.

When I started uni (again) at the ripe old age of 38 I sold my slightly nippy bimmer and felt very depressed with my 3k 2010 Mundano.

Never in a million years did I ever think I’d miss the dullest, least entertaining car ever produced.

I eye Mrs RRR’s 2009 Astra with envy, which is distressing

How many bags of postcrete do we think? It’s about a metre diameter?

Also. Could I just add something to the 2 bags of mortar mix instead?

I would have liked to have replaced the tree but it also takes up a parking spot and then there’s roots lifting the (already awful) block paving to worry about …

    RopeyReignRider

(If not ready mix then what ratio of cement / sand / ballast / fairy dust?

    RopeyReignRider

I don’t have the time / skills to add more bricks alas.

Yes, my lawn is far worse.

I hadn’t even noticed the dodgy brick.

So, wot about concrete to an inch from the top then decorate slate or something?

Can you get ready mixed concrete that isn’t postcrete?!

    ^^ thanks muffin man

And yep, it’s been like that a few weeks but yesterday a load of the edge bricks moved when I drove next to it.

It’s only going to get worse if I don’t do something ..

I was going to post up about it being virtually unusuable on my iPhone 8 but was worried that some older boys would tell me off.

But you know, the ADS! Won’t someone please think of the ADs!! 😇

The ‘some debts’ may even stop you getting a new mortgage at a decent rate depending how large the debts are.

Yep, this is also a concern. It’d be several years of repaying debts from earnings before we could clear them but we desperately need to move.

It would seem really silly if we have to sell up, rent at extortionate rates, pay off debts and then buy again …

You clearly have no idea what the word fine means when uttered by a partner! 🙂

I mean, I know 😖 . It felt like a trap but you know, it’s Christmas so I thought maybe just maybe she meant it ..

FYI when the other half tells you it’s “fine” to take the two older boys out to to test their RC cars whilst she cooks Xmas dinner and feeds a newborn, it’s actually NOT fine.

Reeeeeally not fine. Not fine at all😐

Hi, so we bought the FTX tracer which is identical (Dr P – the spare oil shocks for that would surely fit yours?)

We paid £63 for ours from Modelsport and there’s a whole range of spares available for if (when) my boys destroy theirs!

Even at £63 the cars are a flippin bargain – very fast, tough and even my 5 yr old got to grips with the controls very quickly.

What’s even better is that Mrs RRR surprised me with a BlackZon Slyder (which is also identical and uses the same parts) so I didn’t feel left out 😃

Presumably there is no vapour barrier at ceiling level?

Nope, just rockwool, very old horrible fibreglass insulation and then the ceiling boards.

I’m wondering now whether it has been more noticeable since we had the free extra insulation thrown up there.

(and the damp rafters against the felt are pretty widespread across the roof tbh)

    @bobodaclown

It was the one that DrP mentioned for £45 (at the time)

Someone else mentioned that it’s very similar to the FTX trucks but that you can get a full range of spares for them.

So I bought two of the below for my boys on the basis that when they destroy them I can fix them fairly easily and cheaply!

(and in the interest of balance, my monitors sound fantastic but are a bit ugly as most are)

    RopeyReignRider
    Free Member

(and yep, it is interesting….the pro audio world have used active monitoring for about 40 years (it will always be more accurate, is a “better” design and does away with a lot of problems inherent to passive systems).

However, the hi-fi world remains mostly passive because it’s driven by the marketing of an “upgrade path”. People want to save up for the next best thing, the next shiny thing etc. As a consumer I understand that but as an ex-engineer (sort of) I find it excruciating when magazines lay into Active designs purely based on it not fitting their business models/advertising streams very well)

I generally stay well away from conversations like this as there’ll always be someone arguing against the engineering advantages of active systems as they don’t want to feel like their £4000 system isn’t as accurate as £800 monitors… :D

Active speakers are traditional hifi aren’t they?

I’m not really sure what you mean. Fully Active speakers use a crossover split either digitally or at line level or below, with the signal fed to discrete amplifiers designed to feed either a tweeter or a woofer each.
Traditional hifi throws it all together and splits the signal with a passive crossover at 75+v which results in all sorts of horribly broad filters and phase disruption..

    @peteimpreza

Do you need to use a laptop/Mac?

I have the Apple lossless library subscription thingy.

I use a Yamaha WXC-50 and use my phone to stream directly to it from the internet.

I have it going straight into a pair of fully active studio monitors and am willing to bet money the sound is far far better than traditional hifi costing thousands.

Anyway, once set up properly the Yamaha is amazing.. just a thought

    Thanks stumpy01 , that’s a relief!

Another newb question… the site lists a LIPO battery as compatiable with the brushless-ly upgraded versions of the cars.

Does this mean it wouldn’t work with the box standard one?

    Vs “normal”

    Hi All

Off the back of the cheap Amazon truck, I’ve ordered the same thing branded FTX

    https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/ftx-tracer-1-16-rtr-truggy-orange-1332661

I’m a complete newbie so would appreciate some advice – I’ve ordered two of the above for my two boys. This may be a stupid question and one I should have thought about but…. will they operate on the same frequency?! I’ve looked at the online manual and can’t see any way of switching channels etc.

    thanks

How are these on chest/ back?

    The extreme or Hydrogen Direct?

    I’m 6’2” and 3/4 , 15.5 stone and have a 46” chest.

The Large Extreme was a good fit but wouldn’t want anything smaller across the back.

The Hydrogen Direct is a fantastic fit but in XL.

The extreme doesn’t pack down at all but the Hydrogen can be rolled up easily. I tried the extreme and decided I wouldn’t wear it enough – super warm and great for standing around in the snow but too much for any other time (for me).

The hydrogen seems more than warm enough (almost too warm)

    RopeyReignRider
    Free Member

So I eventually got my hydrogen direct in a blue (Antarctic blue) and it’s a lot less bin linery than the black one. It’s still a little shiny but no more than most down jackets.

FYI the “navy” colour with blue piping is actually black. I returned mine and was sent another black one , and then was told they don’t sell them in black.
The label even says black.. anyway listing error apparently.

So, the navy one is black and looks like a bin liner
The Antarctic blue actually is blue and is less bin linery.
The jacket is pretty warm, can’t imagine I’d need much more ever really, fits well, very windproof and pretty shower proof

    RopeyReignRider
    Free Member

So …. Extreme ordered and was like wearing a sleeping bag. It’s ridiculously warm but I’m not sure I can justify keeping it when it’d be used so little.
    FYI size Large fitted fine

Hydrogen direct turned up but was black not Navy as ordered. That combined with the glossy coating gave it an expensive bin bag look. The fit was great though (size XL) so I’m awaiting the slightly less bin linery Navy to turn up.. I hope it looks ok because it feels like a great jacket.

I suppose most down jackets are quite shiny too?

The name “Extreme” gives us a clue”

Ha, yes indeed…. I thought it might be marketing “eXtreme”

    RopeyReignRider
    Free Member

    Sorry yes, the Hydrogen.

Is it now discontinued, I can’t see it on the montane site?

I think I’m going to have to return the Extreme as I can’t justify two jackets and it seems like it’s going to be too much for 80% of the time…

    😐
