So, unsurprisingly the car hasn’t fixed itself being ignored on the drive for a few weeks.

I’ve sprayed every electrical thingy with GT85 but to no avail. Bizarrely, the dashboard screen thing not coming on was solved by a quick disconnect and reconnect of the battery so at least I can see I’m doing 0mph now.

Any car electrics gurus want to tell me where to start?

    :-S

    Thanks

There’s seemingly thousands of them in the Chesterfield branch of JE James.

I often have a quick peek, feel dirty and then go back to looking at cranks/pedals to make myself feel normal again :-)

Gah, definitely seems electrical – the main digital display on the dash (speedo etc.) is now off and refuses to come on :-/

I’m not sure where to start..

I got a karcher something or other for £55 from the official karcher outlet store. Was a bargain and hasn’t flinched at all sorts of things it wasn’t supposed to do (all legal I should add).

£55 refurb but still under warranty!

So re the key thing – it’s a 2005 and we only have one key for it which appears to be a standard stuff it in the slot type. It just seems odd that it’s just randomly started. Battery is brand new and car is fine once started, confusing :-S

Quite close to Sharrow innit wot where the motorbikes live. Always a thing in Sheffield – lovely bits next to erm less salubrious bits. Sharrowale next to Sharrow, bradway next to lowedges etc and so on..

Leku – have I? Is yours the one about Russian brides or Asian beauties?

There’s nothing else in my inbox! Thanks though!

^^ well I think a full set of bearings is £50 and as I recall the labour rate about the same last time I had them done ..

I’ve seen quite a few on pinkbike for 7-800 but they don’t seem to necessarily go for that.

Not sure if splitting is better or not?

I mean, what £80 or less for the wheels, £130 for th forks, brakes next to nothing, drivetrain the same, frame maybe £250 if I get the bearings sorted?

    RopeyReignRider

Duhhh! What would you call an Intense Tracer if not Tracy then?

Although the new ish carbon Tracer is called Troy..

So.. £500 – £600 do we think. I was hoping for a bit more but obviously it has outdated and thus dangerously small wheels

^ yeah that’s kind of what I was thinking although I might have to spend £100 getting the lbs to sort out the bearings.

I might indeed look at splitting actually.. rims have a small dent each but bearings are fine. It’s just the faff of then trying to sell all the old 9 speed drivetrain that no one wants!

    Hmmmmmmmm

So I’ve decided to keep the new phone as it seems some morons nice people on eBay will pay up to £200 for an old iPhone 6 with a cracked screen… how strange!

New phone, £200 towards new wheels and not sharing a bunk with amaerous Dave – the ideal compromise ?

^^ could do but not worth a whole lot.

“If You take out a Price Plan via a third party who is not EE and get Equipment from that third party when You take out the Price Plan, that third party may own any Equipment provided to You by them for the first six months of the Minimum Term.”

..yet mobiles.co.uk said it was up to EE :-/

^^ I don’t actually know and if the 6 month rule thing applies I don’t understand how legally ownership is transferred? I ‘read’ the T&C’s when I signed up online but still haven’t received a copy (despite asking) so can’t check. I’m also a bit confused in that I ordered it via a 3rd party (mobiles.co.uk). If I paid £25 for the handset then how do I not own it? Confused

I guess my concern would actually be more for the person whom I sold the phone to. I wouldn’t want to sell it and for them to have any issues.

    I’m nice like that

    Hmm I feel conflicted!

I really want some new wheels, bar & stem more than I want an iPhone 7.

P.S. Anyone want to buy an iPhone 7 :D

^^^ urgh, yeah I didn’t mean Dronfield woodhouse – Europe’s largest housing estate at one point I believe?!

Not grotty as such just completely soulless!

I was thinking the old bit of Dronfield and surrounding areas. But as I say there are lots of areas in Sheffield I would prefer to live if we weren’t scummy first time buyers etc :-)

Dronfield (in between Sheffield and Chesterfield) roughy wot where I live isn’t bad. Close to motorways and the like if you want that but also less than 20 mins cycle to the edge of the peaks. House prices aren’t bad and it has an inbetween feel – sort of semi rural ish. Very good schools if that’s relevant too..

^^ you two please stop bromancing about Fulwood!

We lived and got married there but then had to move to the relative ghettos to buy our first house..

    Still miss fulwood :-( #jealousy

I moved to Sheffield to study in 2002 and have stayed (well I’m now just south of Sheffield).

As others have said, Sheffield is really a collection of villages (some pretty grim, others really very nice indeed). It lacks the infrastructure and commerce of places like Leeds and Manchester which can be seen as a good or a bad thing. I love being so close to the peaks but do feel quite constrained by the lack of work opportunities in my particular area of IT dullness. Having said that, Manchester is just about commutable by car from the west of the city (the nice bit) and from the centre by train.
Re riding Sheffield offers the below all within 30 mins of most of the city and as others have said you can ride out of some areas straight into the Peak(s)

    Dark Peak
    White Peak
    Wharncliff downhill
    Grenoside downhill light
    Parkwood springs
    Lady cannings plantation
    Endless roady-ing into the peaks

No experience of Chichester but it don’t seem lumpy enough for biking down that way imo :-)

It seems a 10% off code works today only at Merlin.

I just tried it with an intense Carbon and it seemed to work .

    LOVE10 for anyone interested ..

I got a carbon Tracer T275C from Merlin for a relatively bargain price.

Frame alone was £2600 rrp and if you’re after a Small you can get a whole carbon bike for that.

Otherwise all the alloy and carbon ones seem good value … and they do finance *insert sly smiley*

£280 on CRC at 1710g seems a bargain..

Crank brothers – cheap ish and light and look good.

I do need to think about dent resistance as have been known to dabble in DH with silly low pressures ..

Thanks all, so… crank brothers idodine really worth avoiding?

Btw – has anyone ever seen such nipple failure as above? It was just a large stick through the spokes at low speed :-/

I had the original flows on pro11’s for 6 years with no issues at all apart from a few dents ..

^ not as such. He was a youngish guy, a bit shaken and he asked me if it was his fault!

Got a photo of his licence – only been driving for a month. Think he thought my car only had a scuff , so did I until I tried to drive it away, realised he’d hit my front wheel , steering flipped, ABS lights, brake light, stability control light and a steering wheel that has to be held at 45 degrees to the left to steer straight

    Brollocks :-(

^^ hard to explain but imagine turning right at a roundabout in the right lane, indicating right until you pass the exit before the one you want, indicating left and then finding a car has just shot out from the previous exit point.

It’ll turn all STW if I try to explain further but the guy was keen to ask me not to report it ..

The cost would be my responsibility if his insurance refuse. Basically it’s entirely separate to my insurance policy.

At the moment I’ve no idea if he’s accepted responsibility as it happened on Friday night and my insurance are only open for new claims over the weekend :-/

    ^^ yep , fair enough I guess.

I grew up in darkest Norfolk where ambulances take an hour plus to arrive. My brother did a similar thing to the above with a fish hook and we drove him to the local GP to hoik it out.

Sorry to sound er typically STW but why did it require an ambulance?

No probs Gribble – yep it looks like it’s just a single wrap around of Velcro stuff.

Nobodyofthegoat – worth trying a bell super like the above but I think 62cm is the max size they list it will fit.
