Asda honey in a squeeze bottle for £1.49 is the same as 10+ gels and tastes better.

Ok I’m now thinking that I just stick with my HT. I’m also thinking about some 12 hour races. Would a HT be good for these? Less to go wrong but not as comfortable?

    What’s the thoughts?

Anymore opinions on a HT or FS for 12 hour mtb events in general?

    Cheers for advice so far.

I have been on a weekend skills course, learned and loved a lot thanks to ridelines.
I have very good fitness and love climbing the trails. I have and do ride the black at Glentress on the hardtail. Also other trails at Innerleithen. I do take it easy on the way down but mange most of the black at GT. Confidence on rocks and routes needs worked on. Climb to top of mast and back up deliverance are excellent. And I like the trail down to deliverance.

One friend has said to get a dropper seatpost as it would help on downhills as I usually keep it at my climbing height.
I got the HT (titanium) as I race some off road triathlons. I love it, an athem x maybe an option as it could be a fun/race bike too? Or would trance be better as fun bike? Or just keep using HT and buy a few bits?

Road/tri bikes are a lot easier to understand!

I road the section from Fort William to Kinlochleven and back a couple of days ago on a FS and wouldn’t have wanted to be on a hardtail…

you can also pad out your bike bag with your cycling clothes saves taking a case

padded bike bag with a box or very thin plywood would be best option as a lot lighter than a solid bike box.

You would pick up a padded bag for £37 and get a free bike box to adapt to fit for inside. Easier for you transport than a box.

I thought you were wanting to do forest road climbs? You won’t get punctures riding them on a road bike, nor will you have a problem with grip. I guess venturing into the unknown might be better on a crosser, but that wasn’t in your original spec. – it seems you’ve not captured your user requirements properly.
Oh, and your road bike will probably have quite a similar position to your road bike.

Ok I didn’t say forest roads were bad but I do know my road bike has a similar position to my road bike?

The forest roads I’m looking at I would have no chance on a road bike especially a new road bike for racing on! Ouch ahhhh ouch my frame !!!!

Maybe the old road bike but widest tyres are 25! Not wide enough….

And the video is 2 mins from my door :-)
Even work with the guy in it .

Advantage would be similar position to road bike and less punctures , more grip and ability to venture onto the unknown more easily.

They are roads but very very stoney. Road bike not a chance. It’s the roads at Glentress and Innerleithen.

Thinking cheaper option is 2nd hand full bike.

Think I climb more technical stuff better on hardtail? Is this weird? I also think I prefer control I have going down even if it is bouncy and knocking crap out me :-). I’m probably slower but as said I’m faster climbing .

    :-)

I’m at fort William on Saturday for big ben, also durty in Scottish Borders although I missed this year. Duathlons throughout winter in Borders. There’s a full IM off road way down south but the entry fee is silly!

Looking to do more that’s why the hard tail purchase.

I like the idea of a slacker trail bike? But as a novice what bikes would this be?

    Cheers

Purchased an awesome titanium hardtail a few months ago. Love riding it but don’t want to trash it.
Makes me giggle this, build/buy a bike and then you’re scared to use it, why even bother in the first place?

I’m not scared to use it I love using it! I was wondering if a full sus would be more practical for black runs. And I’ll not speed away on the climbs

Bike and fitness are fine – afraid skill on going down hill is missing just now :-)
