Any thoughts on if I should (I want and recently sold a bike so it needs replaced :-) ) buy a spare bike and what type? Nothing to expensive…. I’m thinking I coud train on both but during winter use the spare rather than trash anthem? Can get a nice cove handjob recently done up for £500? Is a hardtail better or would another full Sus be better with more suspension? Cademuir/Glentress is my backyard and where most of my training will be.

I will be using my giant anthem 29 but thinking a hardtail 29 for start and then swap between ?

Races – well it was Relentless but now also Strathpuffer too
We have 9 solo entries for the puffer from our tri club !

I’m currently having injury issues but hope to be back on bike in next week after 4 weeks no training – the mtb maybe another couple of weeks as its a bad back thsts the issue – although Physio says mtb possibly better due to riding position

    I pad playing up!

    Cheers folks some good stuff….

I’m not looking to compete just complete ….it’s more a fun challenge Iv set myself
I’m not a serious mtb…. Only really go out over winter with friends for fun and some different training. Looking at changing my training to incorporate more mtb to get better handling skills.
Was thinking of changing my 4-5 hour road ride on Saturday to a 4-5 hour mtb ride with one more mtb session in the week. I’ll still keep my other training the same.

Is it worth having 2 bikes similar set ups ?
Full Sus better than hard tail? Current mtb giant 29 anthem …. Love this bike ….

    Any other training advice ?

Have used a powermeter for last 6 years I’m a triathlete and it is a tool that I wouldn’t be without. As you have said it is pointless unless used effectively.

i know my Ftp, np, atl, ctl, blah blah blah the above post is what I’m after how and what you use off road.

Cheers my first post possibly to vague but I didn’t want to get into terms and numbers…

Yep understand how to use power and analyse it, Iv a few mtb files from friends that I’m currently looking at but you have to get a lot deeper into a mtb file compared to road then turbo.

I was just curious to the usefulness of one off road? I read that some 24 hour off road racers use them ?

Ok …by use it I mean the data will be fairly jumpy on a mtb so require detailed analysis after. I don’t think you can ride to a certain power on a mtb ride, do you set wider zones? Do you limit power on climbs? Etc.

Use for intervals when climbing? Etc

How do you find it compared to road powermeter if you have both?

Been after a van for a while and the local garage just got in a vw transporter 800 special 2003 with 113k on the clock. It’s priced at £4k, has 7 seats but removable.

What’s the thoughts on this!? I think the price seems reasonable from what Iv looked at over the last year!

Cheers for the info. Jnr is 16 months and we bought a galaxy as a compromise when she was born. The old estate is now going so I’m playing my van card again and the mrs gets the galaxy :-)

The galaxy is great but I’m after a van easier to throw bike, trailer and dog in for quick weekend cruises

Seen a crew cab and also a 1.9 swb diesel.

    Hmmm….

I mtb, road bike and run on all sorts of paths and trails. There have been lots of occasions when running at Glentress when groups of mtbers slowly pedalling up the road won’t move for a runner heading down the road on the right side of the forest road. I think they like playing chicken. I always acknowledge if on a bike or running but you get idiots all the time! One morning after a hard run heading home and feeling the worse a group didn’t move while I was running, neither did I or my elbows….. It’s easier to keep moving down a hill fast :D

Towing my little girl on the local cycle path annoys dog owners! This really pisses me off! I’m sure the buggy is sound proof

We are all out for enjoyment…..it’s nice to be nice
