I’ve got an Elite Mag Speed and it’s pretty quiet with my road bike. Daughter’s MTB with semi-slicks is noisy!

Up to 25mph it’s quiet enough.

I’ve got the Elite Mag Speed Alu Trainer and I reckon you should be able to fit a 10mm through axle on it..

BTW, I picked mine up (as good as new!) for £50 on eBay.

    what about a Skoda Yeti?

A little less boot space than the Roomster, but better looking?

We get 2 adults/2 kids/camping gear in easily.

Although, we now also use a half roof box and have 4 bikes slung off the back of it! 😆

For future reference – if you have a Top Cashback account – use holiday extras to book the car parking. You get 10% back on the cost.

I paid £39 for a fortnight at the long stay a few weeks ago. £34 for 1 week in the T3 multi-storey.

    I’m currently 200lbs.

Did get down to 189lbs in the summer.

Want to get to 182 lbs and maintain that weight.

    Plan is –

    1) Watch what I eat (it’s easier to get it on the fork that way!)
    2) More riding my Mountain Bike
    3) More riding of Road Bike
    4) use turbo trainer in between.

4lbs lost in 2 weeks so far.

@wiggles, tried the 5.2 diet last October. Managed two weeks, it’s hard work.

Rather than buying Mueller corner yoghurts –

    1) buy a pack of value bourbon biscuits.
    2) take one out of the packet
    3) smash it with a rolling pin
    4) add to generic yoghurt

I’ve got a 25GB Microsoft Skydrive account (free as I started using it years ago)

they introduced a desktop connector last year and now I have a scheduled batch file that runs a backup.

    It works fine.

I phoned sky to cancel and got nearly everything half price for 12 months. Fibre, multiroom, sports, movies, hd, line rental £63 per month

Shop at Aldi, the quality is very good. They have less choice, so what they do have is good. Our weekly shop is about £60 less than it was at Tesco.

Get meat from a Butcher. Some will do packs for £20-30 with some of everything. Freeze what you don’t need immediately.

Buy bigger boxes of washing powder etc. Works out cheaper per 100g

Get dishwasher tablets from Poundland – 15 Finish Tablets for £1

    Topcashback too. Currently on £998

Get cash out of the bank at the start of the month, put it in an envelope and keep your cards at home. Take some cash when you need it.

Check your mortgage rates, gas/electric etc.

Shop around for car insurance, don’t stick with just 1 insurer. There’s no loyalty these days so they will try and match or beat other quotes you get.

The new hub is black.. The SR102, which has inbuilt support for Fibre. No need for a BT engineer visit to install it.

I’ve got a 1.6D Elegance Estate and the variable Boot floor sits on two runners either side, so the load is spread. There are 4 D-Lock rings to secure it in place. It is quite handy to pop up the front of it and stuff smelly cycling kit in!

1.6D doesn’t quite have enough power IMO, but it is very economical – 47 to 60MPG depending on heaviness of right foot.

I’ve put 30K on it in the last 18 months and had two issues, 1 with the DPF failing and also a split gasket on the turbo. Both of which were fixed by the really friendly team at DM Keith in Leeds. (Recommend them!)

I’ll go for the 2.0D MK4 Next time as it’s still £30 per year to tax but has more poke, or might stretch to a Superb Estate.

I think it is very well built. I’d have one any day over an A4 Avant, which are much smaller than people think!

I use it all the time. Book my flights through Expedia/Opodo and Use Hotels.com for accommodation.

It’s also good for Airport parking deals.

We used it last year for our French Camping Holiday and got 13% cash back (off a competitive deal)

Accept that some deals won’t track and that they do take time. But it’s money for nowt at the end of the day!

We got our daughter a Y201 (not Y210) and it is a pile of rubbish.

Looking at the specs they are identical to the Y201, old Android OS, very limited RAM, you’ll have difficulty installing any apps..

Ours has broken after 4 months and will be going back!

    Hope that helps…

    Stumpy,

The Guardian roof is a factory made aluminium frame, regardless of who fits/sells it. They are all made in the same factory to ensure the quality for the guarantee. There’s certainly no bodging involved.

The tiles are made from recycled plastic/rubber and weigh much less than the equivalent clay/slate tile. I was hard pressed to tell the difference between from a reasonable distance.

We had a letter the other day from a window/conservatory company that have started fitting solid roofs with windows in. Roofs are made of plastic but look like slate or pan tile. Whole thing is insulated and you have a choice of ceiling finish and lights.

No issue with planning and can just be retro-fitted to existing conservatories. We’re looking into it as ours is either stupid hot or freezing.

    like this?

We were going to have one of these roofs but I got rid of the conservatory as we didn’t need the extra space.

Ourmaninthenorth, that’s the way it’s going, more brickwork, less window, approx the same price. Still needs a polycarb / glass roof otherwise planning becomes an issue. The holy grail has been a lightweight solid roof for years. It has always ended up cheaper to do a proper extension.

    have a look at this

It’s a really good way of making a conservatory more useable..

The Aldi versions are better than the MF shoes. Much better fit and quality.

I bought a pair of the Muddy Fox shoes from SD as I was struggling getting the cleats out of the bottom of my Shimano shoes.

    My opinion…

Well, they are shoes and the cleats work OK.

The toe studs fall out, the sole is made of solid plastic that wears quickly and offers no grip on slippy surfaces.

The material is PU not leather and are very soft sided.

Never in a month of Sundays are they worth the RRP of £89.99!

If I can manage to drill my old cleats out of my old shoes I’ll be going back to wearing those…

#EDIT – They do drain quickly though..

+1 for Sealskinz socks. Your feet may get cold whilst stood in a puddle, but they WILL remain bone dry.

Your feet soon warm up in them too…

Norden/Bamford areas of Rochdale are nice. Close to Bury for the shopping and easy to get to Lee/Cragg Quarries + Calderdale over the tops.

House prices are reasonable Example right on the edge of countryside

+1 for Mossley/Saddleworth although house prices in Saddleworth are expensive (Born and bred in Saddleworth, but now live ‘near Rochdale’ as houses were somewhat cheaper.

    Bury is OK too.

If you aren’t driving, Ramsbottom would be an issue as the trains that run from there are of the Steam variety.

We’ve got a half width Karrite Odyssey 360L roof box as the idea was to put bikes on half the roof and roof box on the other half.

It worked OK up to the point where we got 4 bikes, these now go on the back of the car. Ideally we should have got a full size ‘box to fit all the camping gear in.

    Definitely recommend getting one…

Are the fixings used to attach the box to the bars fairly standard or are some better than others?

They usually have large U Clamps, but Thule IIRC have a mechanism that allows them to slot directly in to Thule Roof Bars.
