Why’s it out of warranty? I was under the impression it came with a 2 year warranty; mine certainly did.

I needed to avoid whey protein (isolate still had too much lactose for my body) and was recommended pea protein by a nutritionist. This one in fact: http://www.nuzest.co.uk/clean-lean-protein. Not cheap, but seemed to do the job post gym. Bit of a bugger to mix though; you need to add powder to water, not the other way round.

Works for us, although I’m not sure we’ve had any cats brave enough to pursue into the house that closely.
It has eliminated the problem of the local tom scenting everywhere when we had no control on entry. He’s now resigned to scenting the outside of the cat flap.

    No, they won’t.

Shimano make a long drop version with the same bits as ultegra called R650.

Don’t know the Surrey hills, but if the descents are in woods and/or they have used a phone to record, it’s likely to be a gps glitch. Plenty of them on my local trails in Bristol. Otherwise, digital epo?

Didn’t ask what stock it was Blazin, just assumed it was a UK company. If they’re overseas certs you might not be able to anything outlined above!

Open an online share trading account, deposit paper certs into online account (called dematerialising shares), sell online when time is right.

Not many stockbrokers left doing certificated trading these days and the charges are high, especially in comparison to electronic trading.

Have just got a quote for less than half the price of Snowcard from Insure&go, with the same or better level of cover. Anyone got any experience of claiming through them?

Snowcard were pretty good with me & my broken arm last year, although they did check with my wife 3 times that I hadn’t been taking part in the Megavalanche (I was in Bourg-Saint-Maurice hospital; quite a drive from Alpe D’huez).

Read the small print & make sure you’ve got the right cover. My €3250 hospital bill was reduced to €125 with the production of my EHIC & excess is waived for medical bills on doing so. I don’t think you have to have an EHIC, but worth checking the terms to make sure.

Very useful if you like that sort of thing. I’ve also got an 810 and the amount of time the 500 takes to acquire satellites is significantly slower, and quite annoying if you’re recording commutes and need to be gone, just to make you aware. The new models allow you to tailor screens and settings to different styles of riding (auto pause on for road, off for mtb, heart rate graphs for road, etc) and I found it a little annoying switching things on and off in settings each time on the 500. Other than that it’s a great little unit; I bought it as Strava was killing my phone battery.

As much as I love that he used a vice, would a couple of blocks of wood not have done the same job?

No, as the vice can be tightened to hold on to the rear tyre, wedging it in place and is adjustable between DH, XC & Road tyre widths.

I filled the bottom hole in about a week & a half ago, so it does appear that someone is undoing our work.

My mate bolted a cheap screwfix vice horizontally to the bulkhead to hold the rear tyre and then bungees the bars to the side via the brake lever. Difficult to visualise, but very effective.

I’m flying for the week I’m staying with Whiteroom and then driving for the two weeks with my wife later in the year. We’re doing a week with Whiteroom and then a week on our own in Les Arcs. The car allows easy trips to La Rosiere, La Thuile, Pila/Aosta & Tignes.

Not often I take a photo with my iphone that I’m proud of. Clearly would have been better with an SLR (focus, sharpness, noise), but fairly happy with composition & light. Got to love mother nature sometimes!

Can’t work out how to hotlink instagram, but it’s here: https://instagram.com/p/1gJ2tUoHh0/

My mate was doing his best MBUK impression!

I’ve had 2 Xfusion HiLos develop faults inside a year each (the second being the warranty replacement for the first) & have now been refunded the original cost as the vendor doesn’t stock them any longer.

Where are people getting their Thomson posts from?

Given that I’ve got a spare 650b wheelset, a spare unused Reverb and a set of forks that can be changed from 26″ to 27.5″, I was considering buying a Switchback as the frame is cheaper than a Thomson dropper post. I’ve not quite managed to persuade myself of the logic just yet.

I get a lot of tick bites & have hairy legs. Are the two related?

My wife, who usually rides with me, doesn’t have hairy legs & doesn’t tend to get ticks but she is usually behind me, meaning I’ve cleared the way of the little b*****ds before she comes through.

Cost to get to the Alps & back in a car is around £500, depending on your fuel economy, which method you chose to cross the channel, strength of the £ to the € & the oil price (£160 chunnel, €190 tolls, ~£200 fuel last year)

Flying will cost around £200 with your bike, plus transfers to the resort (anywhere from £50-£200).

Eurostar doesn’t go direct to the Alps in summer, meaning a train & station (from the north to the south of the city iirc) change in Paris, with your bike.

FWIW I’m going twice this year; flying one time & being picked up by the guiding company and driving the second.

Another vote for the Felco C7s. They might be expensive, but you’ll unlikely need to buy another pair again.

Expect xrays & ultrasounds to check for stones, questions about whether you partake of rough sports (rugby, fighting) that might cause mild kidney damage before they opt for the poke in the eye.

agent – you’re bristol based aren’t you? I’ve got a bag full of QR adaptors for Pro2 Evos (front & rear) that aren’t getting used any time soon. You’re welcome to a set if needed.

Find the Hope video about centralising the caliper & balancing the pistons, which applies to all brakes not just Hope. Makes a big difference when used with the “pump lever with wheel out” method above IMO.

You’re essentially mimicking the compensation for pad wear & ensuring that the pads hit the disc at the same time.

Seems to have gone the same way of most posts about cycling (on non cycling websites) on the Internet.
    Cycle path vs road; check
    Road tax; check
    Helmets; check
    Lycra; check
    Riding two abreast; check

It is quite encouraging that more people seem to be sticking up for cyclists these days though. Is this the change in mentality that greater participation brings?

Edit – the thread’s just been deleted

Every time i took my HT to Afan i managed to destroy something; rims, rear mech, mech hanger, pedals. Still had fun though. Post-deforestation the trail has gotten rougher & I appreciated the FS over my HT on my last visit, but then my FS is substantially lighter than 34lbs & not much heavier than my HT.

Pretty sure the weight difference on shimano is mostly down to chainrings and there is little difference between bare XTR, XT and SLX cranks. At 400g including ring, anything other than Next SL that you go for is going to be heavier.

Warranty on the RF. 3 year warranty renews whenever new cranks are issued.

3 year warranty on Next SL iirc. Can you not get them replaced? Race face do a crash replacement scheme if it’s outside warranty. 50% off I believe.

Having been stuck on SVR after a fixed rate deal ended in 2009 & our measly 5% deposit had been consumed by the mini house price crash leading to us being stuck for 5 years, I opted for lifetime tracker at 1.49%+base this time round.
We do have quite a lot of spare capacity for increased payments if rates start going up though, so it’s not a “lose you house if rates climb significantly” gamble.

@Bristol has a balcony at the top as part of a event space which would give a different view of Millenium Square. You’d need to liaise with them as to getting access though.

“Waterside” probably means “Waterfront”, the row of bars & restaurants where the Watershed cinema is located.

The Bristol Uni quadrangle might be centenary gardens, next to the Wills building, as mentioned above.

Ashton Court is a big place; do some research on good photo spots. Parking next to the House & walking up the tarmac offers some good opportunities ime.

As an aside, most of these places have been photographed to death so flickr/500px etc should give you an idea of what you’re looking for & how not to shoot it if you need something different!

They’re good on the phones, but the quality of the internet varies. I was previously on ADSL+ at the old house, now on fibre & am not noticing any real difference (other than cost). My router tells me I’m getting 40Mbps downstream, but speed tests (over LAN) are showing 10-16Mbps, which is slower than I was getting at the old house.
To be fair I’ve not had the time or inclination to take this up with them yet, so can’t comment on their response.

Everything I’ve read about carbon rims says this will likely happen. Losing the flex from alu rims means you’re likely to need to change your suspension settings. They should give sharper, more precise steering & less rolling weight though. Pros & cons…
