I love the bike jumble. Where else would you get a Mk 1 Cotic Soul frame for £40? Thomson Stem for £20? Thomson seatpost for £20? Ritchey WCS stem for £5? XTR front mech for £10?

Don’t need anything this month. This means I’ll walk away with armfuls of stuff.

only way to find out is to try it for yourself. I run a High Roller on the front and Advantage on the back & it works for me.

I’ve got a pair of the clear and a pair of the yellow-tinted one & been using them for a year. Excellent quality for the price.

FiveTen Hellcat? Same as the Minnaar, but not in made-for-warmer-climates-white

They come up a bit on the large size. I’m usually a UK10 & was 9.5 in these.

The other could be an email phishing attack on known mountain bikers to make them click on a legitimate-looking email from CRC. When they click on the link, they would be connected to a site owned by the attackers, which logs the information entered and passes the request on to the real CRC site. The results of searches and the final order details would come from CRC, but be passed back via the fraudulent site. The shopper would never know that they’re not dealing with CRC.

Perhaps I too am a coincidental, but I activated my £10 voucher at work (by clicking on the email) and placed my order with CRC using my home PC (using a favourites link).

I’m pretty sure you can get them (camo camelbaks, not Hercules) cheaper on ebay.

Craig – it’s on its way. Postage was much less than I expected at only £1.80, so if you promise to pop at least that much into a mountain rescue donation tin, we’ll call it all square.

I’ll reply on her behalf as she’s at a conference in that London this week. We’ve already bought a 68mm BB (118mm axle) and finished the bike:

    Total cost: £195. Bargain!

Anyway, the 73 x 113 is going spare. I’ve no use for it, nor am I likely to, so if you cover the cost of postage it’s all yours. Send me an email (in my profile) & we can sort out the details.

My last transaction was 26th Feb & the dodgy payments were taken yesterday (10/3/11).

Card cancelled yesterday. Annoyingly I need it to pay the balance on a pro 2 evo wheelset from 18bikes (when they get them delivered). I’ll be avoiding CRC until I’m satisfied that they’ve plugged the hole.

Just been called by my CC company to say that 2 fraudulent payments of £15 to O2 have been charged to my account. The only transactions in the last month I’ve placed on there have been with CRC.

I used the £10 voucher offer & there’s no fraud on my CC.

Are XTR BBs compatible with non-XTR HT2 chainsets?

Yep, I can also vouch for the 2 nice ladies and the quality of their cups of tea and ham rolls x 2 as they were there today.

If they’re the white ones, with white crown, ‘power bulges’ and pop lock remote, then I’m fairly sure the answer is yes, as I’ve done it to mine. Requires the removal of a 20mm internal spacer.

Yep, those are the ones. Did you get yours from Merlin?

Yep. This Saturday, midday at the Mud Dock.

Jamie’s Italian has just opened at the top of Park Street & I’ve been very impressed by the one in Bath. Quality food at reasonable prices (~£9 for a main IIRC).

As it’s only just opened, I’m not sure it’ll be quiet though.

I don’t think you need a new BB. Just use 2 spacers from an external bearing BB (1 for each side) and that will shim out the existing BB for the 68mm shell. Your local bike shop will have 100’s of them kicking about if you don’t.

The existing BB is only a 113mm axle, so not only would it need spacers, it’d also be prone to chainsuck. For the sake of £13 to CRC I’ll probably get her a new one 😉

Wallop hasn’t explained herself particularly well, so just to clarify: The chainset & octalink BB are off my bike (a Genesis Altitude), which has a 73mm bb shell. The soul, being pre-2007, has a 68mm bb shell. Obviously the existing BB won’t fit on her bike, so she needs to buy another one. We weren’t sure whether to go for 113mm or 118mm axle length, but it seems from above that in order to avoid chainsuck, she needs to go for a 118mm. Thanks for the collective help!

    30% of £85k is £25.5k.

Increase in costs of £10k means profit is £15.5k.

    £15.5k is ~18% of £85k

I did have “but what if I’m pregnant” shouted at me as I walked out the door.
I don’t think she was, it was over 30 years ago and I’m sure I would have heard by now.

    Dad?

I’ve been one half of 2 best men, had 2 for my wedding and will be one half of 2 again in May (the three weddings for three best mates) and for the two weddings so far it’s worked really well. Rather than 2 separate speeches, they’ve been done tag-team style and as they’ve been rehersed (with someone to bounce ideas off) they come across excellently. They’ve been no longer than a one-man speech and have been universally praised by the guests.

Given the near-collapse of the banking & financial sector, the FSA (and its eventual replacements) are, and will be, seeking to increase regulation on financial activities. Compliance departments will be hiring for the foreseeable future and those job aren’t going to go away. Well paid, but quite boring.

I gots me one of these & can’t recommend it highly enough. Sound quality is clear & crisp & the bass warm right up to max volume. Looks pretty sweet too, especially on the wall bracket.

Make sure you fill out the W8-BEN form when she sells the shares, or you’ll have 30% withholding tax deducted at source. Proving that you not a US resident & not liable to US tax in order to get it back is a monumental PITA (FCO-certified copy of your passport in order to apply for a temporary US social security number, then fill out a Form 1040 -US income tax return. Took me over a year last time I had to do it).

Platinum here & I usually take mine off before a ride, although it does fit under my gloves as I’ve discovered on the numerous occasions I’ve forgotten to take it off before heading out.

I try to take it off to avoid losing it/bending it out of shape/ripping my finger off. None of these have happened… yet.

And slightly OT, but if you’re still to buy the rings head to a jewellery quarter somewhere (Birmingham or London for example). Mine & the wife’s were half the price we were quoted in Bath for the same weight.

Count me out BL – my original intended guide has come good & I’m heading up with him.

He was old-ish (my guess would be late 50s to 60s), wouldn’t say particularly tall (maybe 5’10”) or notably thin (maybe 12/13st ish). Did have grey hair, but I didn’t notice any gloves, although given the number of logs he was moving I’d imagine he probably did. Had a springer with him (brown & white).

edit – no incoherent rambling. If anything I may have detected a slight scotish twang, but he was very clear in his voice.

I happened across him doing it just before xmas on the trail that starts near the partially cleared area in the middle of LW & has an old badger set at the start. Is that Don’t look down?

The first set of logs were actually quite a nice addition, but the second set were too high & I had to carry the bike over them. He suddenly appears from the trees “you know why I’ve doen this, don’t you? It’s because you lot make these paths unpassable for us“.

My comments that his actions were massively hypocritical as he was in fact making the trails unpassable for other users fell on deaf ears.

£125 for some diesels which i also bought with a student loan (so around 1999) and wore for years. Still in imaculate condition in my wardrobe, unfortunately I’ve put on a few lbs since uni & they’ve been unworn for the last 6 years.

I stick to levis these days – 512 bootcut are the current flavour de jour, and only £65. My oldest pair are 6 years old & still going strong.

DT – Expensive jeans that last are made from better quality denim. The Japanese are apparently the best at it, which is why evisus last so long.
