Cheers_Drive had an issue with the damper in the DT Swiss forks. He had to wait over 2 months (!) for them to be fixed.

Along with the random patches of loose gravel, it makes things quite “interesting”.

Anyhoo, what are you doing on the official trails in this weather? Make the most of the dryness & seek out the “old” trails, which could do with riding to clear the encroaching undergrowth & stickman activity.

Brechfa will be great in the current conditions; the Raven tends to suffer in places if it’s wet, but it can make things more interesting if that’s your bag. It takes an hour from Afan.

Not sure if the fallen trees have been cleared from Cwm Rhaeadr, but if not, the whole section with the rocky drops is unridable & I’d avoid. Definitely worth a visit if it is clear (did 5 laps last time I was there), but will take about 1hr 15 to get there.

I thought half had to be cash?

A maximum of £5640 as cash, but you can put as much of the £11280 into shares/investments as you want. Dividend income isn’t tax free any more, but income on investments that attracts a 20% tax credit is.

I went on the weekend of the Dyfi enduro. There was one section of the “climb” closed due to felling. And a section of the final descent after the tricky rocky section has been turned to quite a mess by the felling operation, but it’s still ridable:

    Check bike-components.de & bike-discount.de.

My wife bought hers from the former. £191 including the bleed kit; delivered in 4 days.

Either push them over the connectors or wrap a bit of insulation tape round the hose & fit it over that.

Has anyone actually tried to put a driveside Pro2 rear QR end cap on a rear Pro2 Evo? I appreciate that Hope got rid of the old design “to reduce drag”, but IME the end result is worse sealing & regular bearing replacement.

I’d take a bit of drag (does it really make that much difference?) over £40 on bearings every 6 months every time.

Anyone ever used the Clarkes 10sp connectors clicky

Quite a bit cheaper than KMC & wondered if there was a reason for it?

Mine just arrived; at least I thought it had. Like LapSteel all I got was empty packaging. Called Maplin & there’s no stock left & it’s been discontinued. Just my luck!

We rent ‘our place’ out, and currently rent where we’re living. It’s (possibly) just breaking even, but then there’s tax etc to pay on ‘profit’..

Look on the bright side – the cost of repairing the boiler is tax-deductable.

Apple headphones are rubbish. Treat her to some sennheiser CX 200s too. Partly for her benefit & also so that you don’t have to listen to the “tiss-tiss-tiss-tiss” of whatever music she likes.

Surely if you’re going to Cornwall you’ll spend the week inside your cottage waiting for it to stop raining?

We bought a Zeppelin a couple of years ago. The guy in the audio shop was full of praise for the Zep & rCube, but recommended that we wait for stock of the rCube (long story, but it wasn’t possible). It’s the none-airplay B&W, so can’t comment on streaming ability, but sound quality is pretty darn good.

However, if you’re after something really portable there’s a chap in Bristol who’s building these: http://www.minirig.co.uk

£90 each, can be daisy-chained for stereo & he’s working on a sub. Small but very, very loud with excellent sound quality (built-in volume limiter to stop clipping). 50hrs playback on a single charge. The creator has a background of building speaker stacks for the bristol sound systems so he knows his stuff. I’ll be getting one to play music through my laptop at home & trips away.

so do I have to practice in my backyard til I’m good enough or can I use alllllll that wasted time at traffic lights to get some practice in?

    +1

2 mile commute. 8 sets of traffic lights & I try to track stand (on a road bike) at any that are on red. As a result I can track stand easily on my MTB (where it’s really useful).

Confirmation email was a little tardy for me too, but order appeared on my order history. Delivery (from germany) has been faster than orders from some UK bike companies.

Edit – address format is all over the place, but I’ve never had an issue. But I do get mine delivered to work & we have a unique postcode.

Also check rotor & caliper bolts are tight.

And whilst I’m probably teaching grandma to suck eggs, make sure you undo the stem bolts before re-tightening the headset. I’ve seen someone make that mistake before.

I’ve got 80mm stem & 711 bars on my Altitude. Could do with a shorter stem.

I ran over a dog turd as a kid with my rear wheel. Not moist enough to stick to the tyre, it was flung on top of my head and not realising what it was I swiped to remove it, smearing it all over my hair and hand. Minging.

Ordered mine in February. Due for delivery towards the end of May.

Having read as much as I could find on sizing & having pedalled a medium Nerve around a car park (it felt cramped), I (perhaps unwisely) ignored Canyon’s recommendation of a medium for my 5’11” frame & opted for a large. Hoping that it fits or I’ll be waiting at least another 4 weeks for a medium.

I’ve also gone over the “is it too much bike” deliberation & decided that if it is, I’ll just have to ride bigger trails.

I got the frame new. Forks from STW classifieds and everything else taken from my old Dialled PA. I will probably remove the bashguard or switch to one that’s a little less chunky.

Not weighed the frame but it feels a bit lighter than the PA. The frame finish is excellent. Need to ride it more to get a true opinion on how it rides, but on the few quick blasts it feels nimble and quick.

Am intending to replace my well-used & battered 520 Altitude with an 853 Prince Albert (when the frames are available in July). Will be interested to hear a comparison of the two.

I’m off to climachx for the May bank holiday weekend. Last time I visited was the wettest ride I’ve ever experienced and that tight LH turn before the “wiggles” sneaks up on you when your brakes are wet!

And thanks to those that pointed out the white rubber thingy stopping the clicking sound. I thought it was to stop the camera falling off, but will be using it from now on.

Before I got my torque wrench, I tightened mine using the short end of the allen key in my hand (to give me the minimum amount of leverage). I’d then check if I could rotate the bars at all & tighten a little more if so.

Then I bought some Renthal fat bars & no longer need to worry.

FYI conventional isn’t fine due to the bottle-cage mounts on the seat tube. You’ll want a top-swing.

Wrap the chain round the front ring & largest rear without going through the rear mech and add one complete link (one inner & one outer):

If using a SRAM powerlink/KMC magic link, don’t forget that it will replace the “outer” section of your complete link.

I did this with my 1×10 conversion on my HT recently & it works fine. Might be different with full-sus.

LUST High Roller, ADvantage and Laarsen TT all went on my Crest/Arch combo with minimal fuss. No issues with seating with a track pump and valve core removed.

The Pro2 Evo bearings are stainless steel, hence they’re more expensive than Pro 2 bearings.

Take the hub apart to work out which ones need replacing & buy them from a Hope supplier. If you compare the Hope stainless ones against other brand stainless, they come up pretty reasonable.

If you set the XTs up so that the bite point is very early in the lever stroke, more modulation can be achieved by winding the free stroke screw out.

There will be no noticable difference if the bite point is further into the lever stroke though, as the free stroke screw introduces lateral movement from the piston cam at the beginning of the lever stroke.

If that doesn’t make sense, look at the underneath of the lever as you unscrew the free stroke.

You can add a number of postcodes to create an exclusion zone. Adding one will make it fairly easy to triangulate the centre if you arrive home in different directions. Overly paranoid perhaps, but given the number of high-value bike thefts in Bristol recently I’m taking no chances.

Would be interested in hearing anyone’s experience of one in a 1×10 setup, specifically whether it negates the requirement for a chain device.
