Went to whinlatter last weekend and got passed on the climbs by a group of guys in shirts and board shorts on hired ebikes. Every descent they were stopped in the middle of the trail on anything remotely technical.

Think hire of ebikes is getting people way in over their heads as ganic said.

    If anyone is interested……

My G13 in Longer is going to be up for sale soon as a rolling chassis.

Get in touch if you’re interested . Going to miss it but i change my bike every year and only have room for one mtb at a time so it must go!

I think I know what you mean Gotama.
Having done some research and calcs I’ve worked out that on 2.6’s the bb will be approx 19mm lower. With a 160 fork the bb would raise approx 14mm and with the longer shock approx another 5. Which is a total coincidence. That’s all calc’d in the low position on the linkage so still 8mm more to get back in the bb height If swapped to high. Gives more options on the set ups people can have who’ve gone down the g13 route. Shame about the plus size though. Would’ve loved to have tried that.

ah crap, what width rim was that on? I guess maybe a 2.6 on 27.5 run in high might be ok then.

Hi Chainline, what’re your thoughts on this:
Sort of got a plan together to try something new with the g13. Going to up my fork travel and fit a 200×57 shock to give me 148mm rear travel. Plan is to get a set of 27.5 plus wheels and some Maxxis 2.8’s which should correct the higher bb created by the longer stroke shock and fork. There should be clearance in the back for a 2.8 I think? Maybe fit a -2 degree headset too.

Since I’ve put the standard length van coil shock on my g13 it’s got that bottomless feel to it. Not really sure 148mm travel would be necessary unless seriously going big. Rough stone pitching and cut up slabs in the lakes are hoovered up and it’s still got loads of pop and play to it. Got me thinking maybe a 36 is needed up front.

My mates got his longer g16 frame up for sale thought I’d share it here in case anyone’s looking for one.

It’s the tyres that add most of the bulk. 2.5 wt dhf and a 2.4 minion ss in double down. Gone through so many rear tyres by snake biting the bead I’ll suffer the weight.
I’m right at the top end of spring weight. 600lbs. But it’s spot on. Just need to find an sls spring now to drop a bit of weight and bling it up. 😉
Mojo had some at 66 quid but can’t get in touch with them now. Guess it’s as they’re moving? I emailed Paul S but no reply as yet.

Thought I’d post a little comment on running a coil on the g13. I got a van Rc super cheap from Mojo and had two days riding on it over the weekend.

Bottom line is it’s great. Super plush and a ton of grip on loose shale and gravel with a much more supple feel over rocks and chop. Sometimes it felt with the air shock that at lower speeds the rear end would get caught up on stuff and slow me down. None of that either the coil. I rode it on the enduro trails in Grizedale and did walna scar descent. Got a pr down there 48th on Strava out of 1,300. Pretty chuffed with that as I wasn’t trying too hard and messed some of the switchbacks up on the top half.
On the Saturday I got a few pr’s on climbs in and around the forest. That’s probably due to being fitter but there’s no more bob than with the air shock in open. The only hindrance is that bike weight is now 35.6 lbs haha. I’m hard on bikes so it’s built up quite tough.

Any details on the shock? Is it still 190 length with just a longer stroke?

Hey chainline, just seen geometron’s post on insta. What’s the info on the custom shock for the g13?

@chiefgrooveguru yeh that’s the fitment if I remember right. How much you looking for?

    @chainline that looks rad!

I’m thinking of getting an angleset for my G13 and wondered what your thoughts are on how slack to go? I’m having to run it in the high position due to pedal strikes (I live in the lakes so lots of sniper rocks!) but preferred the handling in the low setting.

    Whats this 150mm G13 you’ve mentioned too?

@ davosaurusrex Quite surprised you thought that the G13 was glued to the ground! compared to my Carbine 29 the G13 is super lively, it loves sending and jumping the smallest features! Wondering if the shock had too low pressure, too high rebound for you?

@chainline Any tips on how to swap it between the low and high geo positions? Mines in low at the moment and was wanting to try it in the high setting. Had a quick look the other day but couldn’t seem to get the chips out of the seat stays to swap them round. Must say, totally loving the bike otherwise!

    Cheers!

@davosaurusrex the 2016 G13’s are boost. As far as i know you can’t run different dropouts as the brake side had no changeable part. It’s only the drive side that bolts on as it’s also the mech hanger.

Hi Chainline, just wanted to say I’m bloody loving the G13! After a bit of research, I discovered the rear shock is a 190 x 51 which is just a reduced stroke 190 x 57 shock? Is there a reason why the travel at the rear is limited to 133mm by the reduced stroke? Was it purely as that was what was discovered to ride best? On rough calculations a 57mm stroke would give 148mm. I personally don’t think it needs anymore travel but just wondered. Thanks. R.

Cheers Wookster! It was on a Lakes hikeabike over Fairfield and down Great Tongue. We weren’t really expecting the foot and a half deep snow and whiteout on the peak! Was worth it though for the epic single track to finish!

That’s my G13 in it’s natural habitat. I went with the float and 34 build and I don’t regret it. The 34’s are super stiff in 140 length. similar to the 160 pikes i had on my last bike. Every time I ride it, it just keeps getting better!

    Hi Chainline,

Bit of basic question here but on the tech sheets it says that the G13 has bottle cage bosses? Where are they on the frame? Please don’t say on the underside of the down tube! must be room on the underside of the top tube near the seat tube junction?

Started on Xmas eve with a bad cold, managed Xmas dinner then went right downhill. My nose has now stopped dripping like a tap but my sinuses are that bad my teeth are hurting. Joy. Crappy Christmas everyone!

I did the same with the camping mats cut down to insulate the windows. Works pretty well, I got mine from the range and have one side foil. I wouldn’t go inflatable mattress. I did and it’s super uncomfortable. A proper fold up camp bed would be better. If you want to run a lot of power from the battery I.e. Phone, go pro, lights etc might be worth getting a solar panel charger too that you plug into cigarette lighter to trickle charge during the day.

Yeh me too, bit more of a drive seeing as we’re heading down from the lakes. Should be fun I think, fairly short loop so can have a good blast at it.

A girl I met when travelling told me about a time she was having sex with french guy. When he was approaching the end game, he shouted “I am ARRIVING!”, she couldn’t help but laugh!

I had a whyte t-129s and now have a codeine. For me the codeine is hands down a better bike. Ok it’s a bit heavier but it climbs fine and is miles more fun on everything else. Also has no flex in the rear stays which the whyte had lots of. Also didn’t like the fact I had to get the rear wheel dished off centre to get enough tyre clearance as the chainstays weren’t symmetrical! My t-129 also had loads of component failures and the seatstay snapped. Maybe mine was just a Friday bike though.

Yeh I did the short loop as a solo. Been doing a few gravity enduros recently so thought why not. My mate suggested doing it on the morning of the race so wasn’t best prepared!
Climbs weren’t the most fun but the descents were good. 11th wasn’t too shabby. My mate came 4th. I was number 481 he was 482. Any pics?

Good crack with people on the way round too.

They’re ok in the lower position if you put the compression platform on otherwise they blow through the travel too easy. But they do lower the front end nicely for climbing. I rate mine.

By the stock setup rorschach, do you mean as the shock came or the setup on the card for the el guapo 29? What amount if sag are you running?

Thanks for that Brant. I understand the basics of the ccdb, just about to get a cheeky ride in this am to have a test.

Must say though that the frame looks even better in the metal than in the pictures.

All built up and ready for grizedale enduro this weekend. Was a bitch to helitape and decided on a fairly unsatisfactory job just so I could get it rideable. Will redo at some point. The paint finish is great, lovely pearl white. I had a whyte t129s and the codeine is MUCH stiffer, weighs about the same and loads of rear tyre clearance too. Completely different animal to the whyte so will take a little to adjust but boy is it plush. Feels really solid.

With the shock came a set up sheet for the Titus El guapo 29er, is this applicable to the codeine Brant? If not can you get a rough guide for me? I’m away till Sunday so don’t really have time to have a good set up session as the shock instructions recommend.

@packer I’m using sram s1400? Think that’s what they are. They were standard fitment on my t129s. The spiderless ring does save a noticeable bit of weight on my left and right hand scales. 😉

How’s it looking for a delivery of a preordered medium frame in white Brant? (Just frame, not full build).

I’m doing the grizedale enduro on 18th may?

28 11-36 here. I suffered for ages riding around the lakes with a 32 thinking it was just me being unfit. Then my mate had a ride of my bike on a fairly flat trail and got off after a mile saying how the &£@k did I manage to pedal it up hills. Went to the 28 soon after. Much better for climbing but I do pedal out on the descents. Thinking a 30 and 11-40 would be spot on in the lakes.

That’d be good Brant if you can get the team riders to take some notes. A couple of ‘base’ tunes would be a good help to get started with finding a good shock setup.
