    Love them.
I went to school in Rotherham.
Was told to pack in at 16 and go work for British Steel or the NCB – job for life!!
Ignored them, went and did a degree in Glacial Geomorphology – been invaluable in a career in PR!!!

Why should they feel the need to do that ?

Because it will end this thread and I will not be tempted to keep peeping back in here to see if G-Force has been defrocked, or unmasked or whatever it is you do on a forum 😆

I care not a jot, he was mildly amusing but as PP said – better to meet someone face to face and judge them by their actions rather than from behind a keyboard.

Some posts are clearly racist even tho the poster may not consider themselves to be so.

A good and eloquent point, and always reassuring that STW is there as a moral compass for those such as me who have erred.

A good thread that amused over lunch.

BTW, when was STW declared a democracy?

Jane has one, had it 10 years old shape.
Superb little thing, does snow and ice, small, turns on a penny, doddle to park.
Not a lot of room for a big pram though.
Bought it when we had our second – now 10 – surprisingly so has carried all the kid kit for 2 youngsters but we used a small push chair and a carrier.
Never broken down, maintenance a doddle, spares are a bit pricey but needed so seldom it's irrelevant.
Will be changing it soon, would get another but don't like the new shape so it will be a Rav4

Well, I would be relieved that I had not had to kill someone if they were carrying or not. And if not I am sure they will be unhappy, but at least they would be able to say so.

Putting myself in the same position – if I were plod and a man was reported with a gun, would I shout "Please stop and give me the deadly weapon that you know it is illegal to carry and don't even think about using it!" or tazer him and apologise profusely if it turns out to be one of the starters off to practice for 2012 at the new Olympic Stadium.

    Think I prefer the latter.

Eek, find myself agreeing with G!

Went from Wimbledon to E7 through town and saw all the things in the list several times over, enough near misses and one accident to give me a nervous twitch each time I stopped at the lights.

Now I realise that I got flamed the last time I bitched about jumping red lights, but come on fellas, if you want other road users to treat you with any respect, stick to the rules – it will be a start!

Did chuckle at one cycle courier battling with a white van, not sure he had a grasp of the relative density of the human body and steel, or how mass effects momentum, he seemed determined to lean into the van and push it off the road.

    OHH – You said 73 so it's a bay.

Does the loom still have the diagnostic offtakes so you can get a look at any error codes.

I have got a T3 Syncro with the 2.2 engine in and the wiring was/is the biggest bitch of all.

Had a nightmare recently and it was the Mass Airflow Sensor that was US, spare from a breakers and it ran up and down to London sweet as a nut.

Re the ECU – may be worth checking that you do have a 2ltr ECU and not a 2.2ltr ECU

Another useful resource is RJES[/url], Richard has encyclopedic knowledge of Scooby/VW conversions – who did the original conversion?

Ok Sharkbait – we have settled on EEEbuntu – a dedicated ASUS EEE distribution of Ubuntu – light quick and really sweet. Can run of a pen drive or installed, picks up wireless nicely – would recommend this for you EEE.
    Cheers, Paul.

AndyP – that's the rumour, seems to be some planning disagreements. If they leave it long enough next to the large hole it will suffer severe subsidence and either collapse or have to be dropped.

Those who cycle in the Peak Park – watch what happens to the old Marquis of Granby pub at Sickleholme.

It has been left in disrepair with a massive hole just alongside it where a swimming pool was planned.

Seems to be a game of brinkmanship in progress between the owner/developer and Peak Park Planning – will be interesting to see who caves in first over this listed building.

Wow CK you are totally clueless re alcoholism.
Society makes heroes of people who can handle their drink, get pissed and generally drink to excess.
Go find the interviews on the internet with the friends of one of the infantrymen recently killed, his two best mates eulogy was "He liked a drink" and "He was always up for drink and a night out" – what an epitaph for a young soldier.
Go spend some time with alcoholics and see just how hard it is to get away from it.
If you come off crack you can remove yourself from places and people where it may be offered to you. Whereas, alcohol is legal and promoted heavily which makes it very impressive when people drag themselves back from the brink, sadly some people have neither the support nor the personal drive to do so.

Having recently seen one of my school friends bury his brother after he died of massive liver failure, I found this thread fascinating. Lots of opinions and some good points.
Many people failed this young chap parents/carers/school/social services – but some people are just self destructive. Many people tried to save John – he came from a good home, great parents, he had a good career, but he had an addictive personality. Whatever he did he did to excess, and when he hit the bottle he did so with some vigour.
He died at 41, after 12 years of putting everyone who tried to help him through absolute hell.
It was not anyone's fault that John died, he killed himself, he was intelligent and knew what the alcohol was doing to him.
Perhaps this chap had a similar issue?

We have a guy from Epsom in here, can hardly understand a word he says. Should be made to learn the language before he comes oop north. 😆

We do, however, deal globally and on the whole most folks are pretty decent if treated properly. Think we have encountered most of the above and it just makes us chuckle.

For me it's all down to the desktop that is supported, I like KDE because its really flexible and I am used to it, otherwise may be tempted to use Ubuntu.
We may drop Suse onto one, happy to keep you posted if you are not in a rush?

IIRC the Google OS is based on Linux somewhere deep inside.

    😆 Whooo hooo.
This thread has made me howl with laughter.
Mine are now 10 and 12, and just so you don't get all optimistic:

    1. Still sleep deprived – they are the bastard children of an insomniac farmer (up at 6am every day, bright as a chuffin lark!)
    2. Still regularly unshaven – cannot get to the bloody bathroom
    3. Still wearing tatty clothes – their school uniforms take precedence
    4. Don't watch TV as I cannot get near it, although I am now word perfect on Dr Who, Star Wars, Mars Attacks, Horrible Histories
    5. Poo conversations have morphed into puberty, wet dreams and we are starting on personal hygeine.
    6. Still don't care because they are the best things life has to offer – if loved they will return it tenfold (caveat: between 13-18 this may be suspended)

They are fantastic things. When babies I sat for hours watching them sleep – enjoy!
