Mrs Cat is a sufferer and we have had some “interesting” rides in various emergency vehicles after failing to hit the desired flow.

As has been said, its mainly about how efficiently you can evacuate spent air from your lungs and suck in more oxygen rich air.

Lower flow = lower exchange of air = lower blood oxygen saturation all of which will have an effect on your performance.

In Mrs Cat’s case it limits her riding to flat trails/converted railways etc (that and having a sizeable quantity of high tech scaffolding in her spine), I used to ride with a guy who was not quite as bad and his answer was to pump himself full of various inhalers and drugs and damn the consequences.

Fitness will really help, breathing control is also important but you will hit a ceiling.

    What’s the problem.
We have a surfeit of people on the planet.
Perhaps reversing the march of technology by reintroducing person power is the answer.
One small step on the road towards full employment.
We could harness spinning classes to the National Grid – may even save having to brighten up South Wales with pretty wind farms.
There is also a local watermill that could be put back to use by having the local unemployed jog inside the wheel in exchange for benefit payments.
I feel an email to Call Me Dave may be in order. 😀

By now I must have ridden past plenty living round here. But, as far as I am aware, I have not actually met anyone. Would feel a little odd riding up to a bunch of riders on the hills and asking of they are on STW, like being a Mason only less socially acceptable.

Have one in our camper on a firm base and that’s brilliant, but on a lumpy base all it did was make the lumps softer.

I am currently letting the train take the strain of a trip to London.
One day in the city and my 2 mile ride into the office through the Peak District will reinforce my belief that I am sooooo very lucky to live in an idyllic place.

Only got one bike, which has been built to be as simple and reliable as possible, minimum maintenance, maximum mileage, minimum cost – works for me.

Got an Ocean Frenzy sit on, kids used it loads when they were younger. Loved the OF, really stable, does not get waterlogged,if you get swamped it self drains – as someone has already said it’s not a “proper” kayak. Getting in as many different types as you can is a good starts as Kayak23 said – check out your local watersports lakes as they sometimes do demo days with local clubs or shops.

They do bounce about a bit if unloaded or have a very light load on rough roads (see Sheffield).
Found that sticking a small flag on an old tent pole helps me when reversing as I can’t see mine behind the ScoobyVelle. It also helps reduce your paranoia that it has parted company some miles back if you can see the flag waving to you.

In 2007 there were 9 left wing governments within the 27 EU countries

So it’s pretty clear who set the EU agenda then……….conservative governments. One has to wonder why the EU is in such an economic mess eh ?

Conservatism doesn’t work, in case anyone hadn’t noticed.

No it doesn’t. That schematic just shows distribution of clearly left wing governments in Europe, over time, it has no indication at all of the strength or weakness of the governments in relation to party. What it does show is that just over 30% of governments were politically on the left, this does not necessarily mean that 70% were right wing. For example, this chart excludes Germany’s “grand coalition” of 2005-09, comprising the centre-right Christian Democrats and the centre-left Social Democrats, one of the biggest and most influential economic engines of Europe.

Why is it that those who are dogmatically wedded to a political faith cannot look at facts without applying a liberal dose of left or right spin to them?

MF – I am with you all the way – stand as an independent, I’d vote for someone who can demonstrate original thought not a myopic party political rant. Just listened to the independent candidate for London Mayor on R4 this morning – she’s brilliant. Perhaps more intelligent independent candidates is what we need?

If you accept National Bureau for Economic Research dating the beginning of the recession as December 2007 then this statement:

    ernie_lynch – Member

Tell me, how many of these 27 countries had a socialist government in the run up to the financial crisis?

Very few. Which explains why the EU had a neo-liberal agenda and was pushing for privatisation/free-market fundamentalism so strongly, you know, the economic policies which got us in such a mess.

It is not quite so clear cut. The stats produces by The Economist in the following chart.

In 2007 there were 9 left wing governments within the 27 EU countries – this excludes their presence within coalitions where they did not have overall control. Just thought a few facts may help things along. 😀

I’m broke. If I borrow more and spend more will it make me richer?

    Briefly, yes.

I, for one, am very much looking forward to this. It gives us 3 years to observe how completely and utterly a “tax and spend” leader can decimate a country before we have to vote again. Might make a few rethink their plans to vote for Milliband and Balls.

    Yep, spot on.
Will be interesting what effect this will have on their position at the “heart of Europe”.
