Ernie – I really find it hard to care if you do, but you do seem able to start a fight in an empty room by deliberately, or otherwise, misinterpreting something quite simple. 😀

Twas not I who mentioned sofas or any other items in gardens but don’t let that put you off having a grumble.

That’s because the Scots don’t have the sweetness of victory with which to compare the bitterness of losing. 😀

It’s the furry handbags hanging down in front mixed with legwarmers that’s the biggest fashion faux pas. 😀

When I was young free and employed I hooned about like a loon.
With age & wisdom, wife & kids, own business & a need to be uninjured to earn, I just changed my style of riding.
I enjoy the getting there more than the arrival (oooh Matron!).

Great to see young gready weirdys flying past, all spinning legs and eager anticipation to get to the next bit, I just pootle along and arrive in my own time and usually the bike and I get there in one piece. 😀

But perhaps you know better rogerthecat and it was me who mentioned it ?

Well, I’ll keep the right end of the stick and you can have the other one, eh? The social standing was intimated by the list from Martinhutch, but I was referring to this post:

Ah bless, you’re worried about both lower and middle class “gathering mobs”.
You stick to posh company where you feel nice and safe.

But hey, let’s ignore that if it gives you a reason to pick another argument where there was none to begin with. 😀

I suspect you may not have a lot of choice as to when your partner is induced, when push comes to shove (to use an appropriate idiom).

Hull-Liverpool railway would be a much better use of public infrastructure monies IMO.

The Wasteland Express – from somewhere you don;t want to be to somewhere you don’t want to go in under 3 hours. I can see the marketing campaign now! 😉 😀

Why not get the traffic off the roads instead – cheaper and more beneficial?
Dedicated cycle/pedestrian streets, curfews for vans & trucks that need to deliver – eg no commercial vehicles between 0800-1000 and then 1600 – 1800.
    Deliveries only after 1900.
No HGVs in the centre, build transfer stations where goods can be decanted into smaller vehicles.
There will be exceptions where construction materials are required in the city but those will be far fewer than retail deliveries etc.
Much bigger thinking needed and we need to remove the dependency on the cars in the urban environment.
Heaven forbid, it may need an integrated transport policy – John Prescott to the forum please:

A lifetime ban would be a watershed, it should be automatic for anyone convicted of causing death by dangerous driving and the penalties for ignoring it should be equally severe – driving is a privilege not a right.

    According to the argus
Dr Jim Marshall, of Water UK, said: “The water companies’ main concern is the process could cause contamination by allowing gases such as methane into drinking water

Cool, all services delivered by Severn Trent, off to cancel our British Gas contract.

Go Ernie, class warrior for poor pet owners. 😀

Driving home last night after a 250 mile trip I was bimbling along the dark lanes close to home only to round a corner and find a large cow and two calves standing in the road. A neighbour was trying to open the nearest gate to get them off the lane (it’s a link road between villages and can be a bit of a racetrack).

I was amazed at the number of drivers who either spooked the cows by driving at them to get past or weaved in an out of them, all a bit dim when my van and Pat’s car were either side of the animals/gates with hazards on.

It made getting them all back in a field a bit difficult which we did and then called a friend who may know whose they were. Hitting a fully grown Fresian at 40mph may need more than t-cut!

Well this is an interesting twist!
It’s from the Torygraph so will have the inevitable spin in the tail.

“Under new laws, Government ministers, rather than local authorities, could have the final say on more “nationally significant infrastructure” projects, including onshore gas extraction.

Proposals in the Growth and Infrastructure Bill would would exempt shale gas plans from some local planning procedures and consultations.

The laws are aimed at stopping local blockages in the planning system to fast-track infrastructure and boost economic growth.”

I’ve just put the sprouts on a low simmer
…so they’ll be ready in time for December?

Good point—it’s only 134 days till Christmas and I’ve got them on a low simmer! I’ve turned the gas up now—got a nice ‘champagne boil’ going. A brassica has no business being crunchy

Good English veg cooking rules – if you can count them, they’re not done.

I like the idea that they’ve proposed park and ride schemes for cyclists, to allow us to use public transport for the last part of our journey…

Better to spend the cash on old fashioned guards vans so we can take out bikes with us rather than coming home to find just a frame chained to a bike rack.

Wow! That’s a lot of dosh for a push iron.

I nearly feinted when I handed over my part of the £600 for the full susser on cycle to work scheme, I could never justify spending that on a bike, what can possibly be worth that?

Second hand frames, parts bin specials, been riding them since the late 80s and never thought I need to spend an additional £4400 to enjoy it more.

I could just about see the sense if it was a performance bike for a seriously competitive amateur racer (MTB or Road) but for evening and weekends round here, nope.

As has been said ^^^ get all the paperwork together, log every call/conversation. If you can record it then do so and tell them that’s what you are doing but try and insist on written communication. Get advice asap from one of the links above, they will have dealt with this type of thing before. Been there, it’s a shitty place to be and I feel for you. Also, if they say they are coming round do not, under any circumstances, meet them on your own, make sure that you have witnesses. If they try to remove the roof IIRC it would be trespass with criminal damage but check that and if it is you may want to let them know that you are aware. Good luck and keep us posted.
