@Oldnpastit – we have two, they are complete opposites, neither are bad or anything other than great kids, but they are going through the teenage stage of finding out who they are and what they think, much of it makes no sense to me.

At the moment our house has one potential Douglas Bader and one potential Lenin, who knows what 2014 will bring – just one big adventure really.

Good luck and hang on. 😀

The buggers ambush me every time I fill up, bet we own half that nice Landy they park in Hathersage on nice sunny days – nowt but high altitude chuggers!! 😯

On a serious note if everyone drops a pound into one of their tins in the valley pubs/shops/petrol stations when they are out in the area, it will mean that there’s someone around to pick one of us up when we get broken.

Thanks jag61 – had one in the pub and it was brilliant – may be this weekend’s project.

Yep, box ticked, the eldest is nearing the point of leaving for Uni in a year’s time, thinking of the house without him in it breaks me every time.

Back home, bikes washed, log burner on and sitting with a huge mug of tea having had a great day.

That was the usual excellent fun, so thanks to Pook et al for organising another fun ride out with some great folks – Jules I will drop you a note about a Marple ride.

Also a big thanks to those who made Joe so welcome he’s a bit broken but lining up a 3 hour soak in the bath, and keen to get out again next weekend.

Rich your lad was brilliant, heaven help the rest of us when he gets into his stride.

Also good to meet a few new faces in the pub afterwards, and the cake was exceptional.

Already looking forward to the next one. 😀

EDIT: Podge – using the car for the last half mile deserves serious penalty points!

Blimey that could be this village.
Day 2 of our residency I was advised by a top old fella that we’d “not be local until there’s 3 generations underground in the churchyard!” Friendly little place. 😀

As predicted by someone on here the numbers are dropping fast, by Sunday it’ll be just Pook, Grattan Catalogue Man and Podge!! 😀

Just back from a quick spin around the valley, we opted not to do the route as we’ll be doing it on Sunday but we were on trails nearby and they are wet, muddy and there is quite a bit of standing water about the place.
It was warm tonight and sufficient cloud cover to prevent a decent frost.

May be a few coming with me.
It’s not going to be a quick ride but it will be fun.
There will be lots of pushing up hills.

Made the mistake of reading Z for Zacchariah in the second year at comp which set the tone for my nuclear destruction angst. I also thought every plane flying over was about to drop the big one, didn’t help that the Vulcans flew over us when leaving RAF Finningley. It seems a cold, hard time that made the arrival of punk then industrial/electronic music so appealing. The IRA blowing stuff up max it all seem a bit more vivid too.

@bikebuoy – me too, I’m riding some of it tonight so will report back (also on rigid SS), but Pook’s route is the best of the trails for the moist conditions – but not for SS Knees!

Although there was a good frost this morning so if the temp keeps dropping it could be cracking.

Well this was never going to end well!!

Good luck chaps, if the psychopaths and nutters one of our team has dated from online sites and through running her own singles evenings are any indicator, the pickings seem a bit thin on the normal men front.

We have had to provide counselling on a weekly basis and one rescue – she’s finally found someone but he was someone she had known for years and it just clicked.

    There is hope!! 😀

Some great advice up there, when MrsCat was doing her degree we had to economise and found that cooking from scratch and keeping it simple saved loads, especially if we loaded the freezer (read somewhere it is more economic to have a full freezer – could be mistaken on this one)

Also, in the house we heated just one room and all gathered in that one, we scrounged as much waste wood for the fire/log burner as we could and that helped a lot.

The biggest effect was managing to increase income from a a bit of freelance work over anything we could shave off in savings (once we have curtailed my wine habit) so the additional work is a good plan.

    Good luck.

@AW – absolutely, and the results of the effort to keep ones self attractive to ones partner is probably less important than the fact that the effort is being made.

It’s only a quick ride to the office but I love the way it hurts when I breathe in and the nipping of nose, ears and fingertips.

Luckily there are only a few cars on my route, but the ones that I do meet are often parents racing to drop their little lovelies at HVC

What happened to a proper journo like Parky interviewing people and doing so with skill and judgement rather than second rate stand up comedians finding something else to do?

    Carr – crap
Ross – last credible in the 80s
    Norton – barely tolerable
    Morgan – complete arse

@Ton – spoken like a true gumpy old tyke, don;t worry it’s part of our heritage and we should embrace becoming the awkward fecker that drove us mad when we were young. Without us their youth would just be easy and fun.

As my dad turned 90 in October, and is fitter than many 30 year olds I know, I am hoping it’s all genetic!

Yep,was big fan as a kid so when I had kids I showed them the old ones. Then up pops Russell T Davies and Christopher Ecclestone and I get to do it all again.

Pizzas cooking, wine open, fire burning away – bring it on!

Don’t think it is, between the info board that shows what the quarry used to look like up there, through to the other side of the junction at the top of Cave Dale, where all the big holes used to be. There is some filling in right up to the Farm, the lane from the farm to the road is mostly tarmac anyway.

And if you lot didn’t keep asking questions in such an accusative manner I’d be a lot better by now.

To quote the trail biker as he gouged a nice line up to me, “It’s like riding on carpet now.”

Some awesome vehicles here. I always fancied one that doubles up as a mobile sound-system. Just rock up to some picturesque remote place: Instant rave

Aaaaargh! McMoonter you are a very bad man, love Unimogs and big 4×4 toys.
Had to compromise on mine due to storage and the narrow access up the lane to our house, so ended up with this – carries 8 peeps, sleeps 2, Subaru 2.2 powered, 4×4 with front and rear diffs and I love it.
