Enjoy every moment, they do get fewer as they get older.
We had one 2 nights ago – all of us in the house, log fire, an array of mixed food, wine, beer and nibbles and we howled laughing at a whole series of Big Bang Theory with our teenage boys – top night in.

Make sure you take pics, I have to as my brain doesn’t seem to have a large hard drive so I forget loads of stuff.

Disappointed in all you log fireists – has to be Lapsang Souchong, like drinking a bonfire in the woods – mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. 🙂

EDIT: stop putting milk in it then you will be able to taste the subtle flavours and differences between types – enjoy!

This is the only one I have, it commutes, bikepacks and goes out to play too, it was lugging my fat, post Xmas, carcass about today:

Are you set on Buxton for any particular reason?
Some nice spots on Rob’s link.

    Hell yes.

My 2 lads are 14 & 16, play the bass and lead guitar respectively, both play trumpet, bot love music from all eras. Bizarrely I dropped the eldest off in Sheffield at the old Top Rank Suite (not the O2 Academy) to see the Stranglers almost 25 years to the day when I saw them. The youngest is into the Manics, Slipknot (de rigour at that age I’m told) and the latest is ‘cool jazz’ – nice!

They don’t follow the charts but they do follow genres of music and specific bands and artists. As I type this the eldest is blasting out Bowie, Queen, The Drifters, PiL and the Kinks.

It’s all about giving them very subtle tasters of varied stuff and letting them follow it through to draw their own conclusions.
    😀

@Woody21 – likewise, and I also get pissed off seeing energy gel wrappers lying around and the odd inner tube hanging from a tree – no one group has precedence where littering is concerned, we could all do better.

And having just got back from a blast around the valley in the beautiful sunshine I met nothing but happy walkers all of whom opened gates and beamed their good mornings as I nipped through.

    😀

@Hubert – as we were asked to bring the concerns of resident MTB riders to the table by the PDNPA in the first place, I suggest that the approach of a less confrontational approach seems to be paying dividends. They want to share their plans with us, ask advice and consult on matters that concern MTB riders across the Peak Park (and we will, of course, also take the views of non park residents to the table). I would suggest that this implies that they are open for constructive dialogue, I cannot speak for the approach taken by the 4X4 & Trail Rider lobbies but it looks like we have a positive start with the PDNPA.

Having one of the last few Christmases before my two lads will prefer to be out with their mates / girlfriends / boyfriends so loving every second they want to spend with me and MrsCat. Spent time with my ace outlaws and my own wrinklies, of whom one celebrated his 90th Christmas with beer and giggles – what’s not to love (and I spent most of it prepping food, cooking and clearing up). Now about to settle down with a bottle of wine at half four in the afternoon with a log fire and some crap on TV – great innit!

Matt Smith would have been a brilliant Dr Who had he not been encumbered by the useless Pond for so long and given some woeful scripts.

    Cool wind map.
Sitting in the office (Hope Valley) and the the wind is intermittent, light then nutter barsteward strong.
Lots of standing water on the lanes on the way in and bit of tree scattered about.
About to trek over t’moors to Rotherham to retrieve my lads, that could be a hoot! 😯

Good to hear positive comments on Enduras, my lads bought me a pair for Xmas. Only ever worn boots & toe clips in the past and now light shoes and Time clips so warm feet will be ace

Lovely few days. Christmas Eve on the hills with the family, log fires and festivities in the evening. Christmas Day 1 at home before heading off to the outlaws for a huge family dinner with both sets of olds and then prezzies in Christmas Day 2, now getting ready for SiL to arrive with her kids for Christmas Day 3.

New Year will be seen in on the top of Mam Tor as usual.

Ok, can we just reiterate why we set this up.
It’s to enable us (mountainbikers) to have a seat at the table alongside other groups that position themselves firmly as representing the interests of resident/local user groups, be that horse, 4×4, trailbike, walker, landowner, etc.
The PDNPA has plans for cycling in the park and we need to be in amongst it so can we focus our efforts on getting the best for mountain bikers in the Peak Park, if can do more that’s a bonus

Many thanks to all those who have signed up, your support is very much appreciated. Have a very happy Yuletide and a happy New Year from those of us at PeakDistrict MTB.

@Fasternotfatter – take a moment to read the original post and the earlier thread.

This is not about being divisive or exclusive.
There is a rationale for this being set up as it is.
I would be happy to chat through why this is the case – mobile in the thread up there ^^^.
Your support would be very much appreciated, the aim is for a benefit for all.
Just had a chat to BWD who, I hope, now gets why we are formed as we are.

    Cheers, P.

I think we can all agree that the actual Park boundaries were somewhat circumspect when originally drawn up. If we can just park that for the moment and focus on what we may be able to achieve that would be brilliant. 😀

Chris is bang on the money, we need resident MTBers to leverage the position we have, it’s not about exclusion, it’s about using the best routes to represent all our interests and why we really do want supporters from outside the park. So, please get over to the website and give us your support. Thanks.

Actually it’s a local group for locals riders.
Hello, hello, what’s all this noise, we’ll have no Hope hubs here!

    This:

“A few weeks ago I posted a thread about Peak District National Park Authority (PDNPA) wanting to speak to resident mountain bikers about PDNPA’s plans for cycling and, more specifically, mountain biking within the park.”

It was at the request of the PDNPA as they wanted a residents group, a bit arbitrary I agree but they have reasons. If you want to know more call me 07767 444711.

podge – sounds like a brilliant resource – if we could use it that would be great and as you say, shortcut a lot of work. 😀

Crell – went to the last Authority meeting to get some idea of what we would be dealing with and there are already discussions about linking urban areas into the Peak with cycle routes – more leisure routes than MTB but it’s a start.

Nice idea re geog data & council lobbying – one to add to the agenda.

Agree with Taz’s comment on the Thatcher thread.

I see no reason to change my view for Ronnie Biggs.

He was a pretty odious individual who seemed not to bring any great benefit to the world in any way.

It’s a pity he is seen as a role model in any way at all.

OP – really feel for you, came within a hair’s breadth of the same thing happening a couple of weeks ago and we see each other every day. Not sure I can add anything other than just roll with it and see what happens – we had an epiphany moment and all is getting better – you just never know. Keep it civil and friendly, if there’s a spark it may just reignite. Good luck.
